The Aviary by Kathleen O’Dell. The Aviary is a quiet middle grade novel with a touch of Anne Of Green Gables crossed with The Secret Garden as an influence.

The Inquisitor’s Apprentice by Chris Moriarty Book Review
Book review- Magic is thrown into the mix in Chris Moriarty’s middle grade historical fantasy, The Inquisitor’s Apprentice where old New York is re imagined as a place where magic is outlawed. The Inquisitor’s are a special division of the NYPD and solve magical crimes as well as detect the use of magic.
Chime by Franny Billingsley Book Review
Chime was my first Franny Billingsley book, but it definitely won’t be my last. If you are looking for a lush, old-meets-modern folk tale full of magic and plot twists, I cannot recommend Chime highly enough.
Toads, Beetles, Bats
Y’all I love a good historical fiction. I also love a great audiobook. When these elements combine, it’s like a double rainbow. The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt combines these elements, and provides a glimpse into Holling Hoodhood’s life.
SPOILER ALERT: The Titanic SINKS!

Of course, the Lisles book passage on the best ship EVER, the Titanic, and because they are noble they can’t do things for themselves and bring their servants.
