Prepare to be Tested. The story that kicked off the international #1 bestselling Vampire Academy series is NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE. Read it Before it Hits Theaters February 14th, 2014! The recent Strigoi attack at St. Vladimir’s Academy was the deadliest ever in the school’s history, claiming the lives of Moroi students, teachers, and guardians alike. Even worse, the Strigoi took some of their victims with them . . . including Dimitri. He’d rather die than be one of them, and now Rose must abandon her best friend, Lissa—the one she has sworn to protect no matter what—and keep the promise Dimitri begged her to make long ago. But with everything at stake, how can she possibly destroy the person she loves most?

I am not going to post the official synopsis because it contains spoilers, rather here is my unofficial synopsis of Blood Promise by Richelle Mead: Rose leaves St. Vladimir’s to go to Siberia. In Siberia she meets lots of people, adventures ensue. Lissa stays behind. Lissa meets new people. Hijinks ensue.

I am a bit torn on how I feel about Blood Promise. I mean, I am quite intoxicated by the Vampire Academy books and just want to know what happens. However, there were certain things which turned me off with this book. For instance, certain characterizations bothered me. I understand it was necessary to characterize someone a certain way to demonstrate the differences, but I just didn’t like it. Also there were certain plotlines which I felt went nowhere in Blood Promise. For example a completely new concept is thrown into the mix and I thought oh, wow I’m really getting into this plotline I wonder where it’s going to leave. Then, it just stops. No continuation. Nothing. Just ends. I’m going to try to reserve my judgement on that, because maybe Mead is going to reintroduce the plot line in Spirit Bound and it will serve some importance and it was just there in Blood Promise to introduce the concept.

Now, please don’t think I hated Blood Promise by Richelle Mead, because I did not. In fact, I enjoyed the tug-of-war it played with my emotions. I got so hopeful then bam my hopes were smashed. Also some unexpected events occurred, and I wonder how they will be resolved in the next book. Oh and did I mention that I cried during Blood Promise. Granted, it wasn’t something to cry over, basically Rose is just pouring herself out to Lissa, but still I’ve had those friends where I can tell them anything and I know how it feels to have that release. Hence, the good cry. Let’s see what else did I enjoy… The new setting was a great change, you should know I am a bit obsessed with Russia, I love reading about Russia and love Russian lit, so that part was awesome for me! Oh and there was some characterization that I did enjoy, someone becomes kickass, we get to know one character a little more, and again, Rose becomes more three-dimensional.

As for drinks with Blood Promise, maybe some fruit punch, because it’s red and looks sort of like blood and this is a vampire book. I know, I know, weak, but my brain just isn’t coming up with something.

If you’ve read Blood Promise and want to discuss theories for the next book, Spirit Bound, by all means feel free to do so in the comments, just mark it w/ spoiler so others reading don’t get spoiled. I know I am just dying to discuss my ideas on what’s going to happen with someone.

  3. I'm glad you liked it. I don't know how to choose my favorite book from this series. All of them are so damn good! I'm dying for the next one, especially now that I've read a sneak peek from Spirit Bound. There are so many things to happen! Great review, BTW.

I loved this book although Shadow Kiss may still be my favorite. I was just so happy to see Dmitri again.

I really hope somehow she and Dmitri really end up back together. Someone suggested on one of my posts that Dmitri might "die" but be brought back by Adrian the same way Lissa brought back Rose so he won't be a Strigoi anymore. Seems like a possibility.
