Why Did I Listen To Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick?

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick has basically been on my bookshelf since BEA 2014. So, for about three years and change. I KNOW! I am the worst at reading things. So, I was a bit reluctant to read this book because there’s reviews of that Hush, Hush trilogy that make it sound like these books are not at all up my alley. However, there are no supernatural elements in this book and so, I felt like now was as good a time as any to finally read it. And bless, Hoopla, it is on audio and narrated by one of my favorites in the industry.

What’s The Story Here?

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick stars a girl named Britt who spends her vacation hiking the Teton range with her best friend, Korbie. Britt’s ex, Calvin who is Korbie’s brother is supposed to join them. Alas, Britt and Korbie get stuck in a storm and so they never make it to Calvin. Instead, the two take refuge with these two strange guys – Mason and Sean. STRANGER DANGER probably should have been obvious to the girls, but of course, they find themselves in an awful situation.

You see, there’s been a few murders and disappearances. And now Britt has the suspicion that the guys may just have something to do with it. Britt is stuck though, because she agrees to guide the guys off the mountain in the hopes that they will let her live. She’s also desperate for Calvin to show up and meet them. Of course, Britt may not exactly have it all figured out — after all, Mason is still really kind to her, even though he’s a kidnapper. Will Britt make it down the mountain? Is there enough twists and turns in this thriller to keep you listening? Oh 100% yes there is.

How Did I Like Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick?

Overall, I enjoyed Black Ice much more than I had originally anticipated. I listened to it a few years removed from the release date and thus the hype and lack thereof. Honestly, at this point I don’t even remember if there was a lot of hype or not for this book. I will say that I did predict who the actual murderer was early on in the book. In addition, I found that the plotting of the reveals was pretty well done. There were some moments that felt like they were unnecessarily lengthened for heightened drama. As whole, I found this book to be quite entertaining.

How’s The Narration?

The audiobook of Black Ice is narrated by Jenna Lamia. If you’re an avid audiobook reader, chances are you’ve already listened to Lamia. She does great work and is a good point of entry. I thought she balanced Britt’s strengths and vulnerabilities quite well. I definitely really enjoyed listening to this audiobook and would recommend it if you want to read this book.
