A disinherited duke and a former lady are courting much more than business in the first novel in Megan Frampton’s newest titillating series, Hazards of Dukes.
Everything he had ever known was a lie…
Sebastian, Duke of Hasford, has a title, wealth, privilege, and plenty of rakish charm. Until he discovers the only thing that truly belongs to him is his charm. An accident of birth has turned him into plain Mr. de Silva. Now, Sebastian is flummoxed as to what to do with his life—until he stumbles into a gambling den owned by Miss Ivy, a most fascinating young lady, who hires him on the spot. Working with a boss has never seemed so enticing.
Everything tells her he’s a risk she has to take…
Two years ago, Ivy gambled everything that was precious to her—and won. Now the owner of London’s most intriguing gambling house, Ivy is competent, assured, and measured. Until she meets Mr. de Silva, who stirs feelings she didn’t realize she had. Can she keep her composure around her newest employee?
They vow to keep their partnership strictly business, but just one kiss makes them realize that with each passing day—and night—there’s nothing as tempting as what is forbidden…

Why Did I Listen To Never Kiss A Duke by Megan Frampton?

Never Kiss A Duke by Megan Frampton is the first of the Hazards of Duke series. I started by reading the second book from the series, Tall Duke And Dangerous. I know, reading them out of order is kind of weird. Alas, them’s the breaks. Anyways, I had decided to listen to this book to A) get it off my TBR cart and B) get the context for the beginning of the series that I may have been missing by reading the second book first. Also, I had listened to the second book and thought it was a good idea to keep consistent with the format.

What’s The Story Here?

Sebastian is the Duke of Hasford. He’s got it all – wealth, privilege, you name it. That is, until he finds out that he isn’t actually a duke. So, Sebastian has to get a job which is a completely new experience to him. He ends up hired on the spot while in a gambling den owned by Miss Ivy. She gambled it all and won her gambling den. Ivy is actually really awesome – a working woman with her head on straight. However, there are some sparks between her and Sebastian and she has to keep it business.

How Did I Like Never Kiss A Duke by Megan Frampton?

I thought that Never Kiss A Duke was an okay read. Admittedly, I was not all that invested. However, Ivy is an excellent character. I am always down for a competent business woman as main character. She is really likable and someone you root for. Also, I liked that Sebastian had to figure out working for a living. It made this romance a little bit more relatable. The adult scenes additionally were decently written as well. Overall though, I just felt a spark missing from this book for me.

How’s The Narration?

Just like Tall, Duke And Dangerous, Megan Frampton’s Never Kiss A Duke is narrated by Jilly Bond. I don’t love the narration, but I also don’t hate it. Bond has a proper sounding voice which works for historical romance but doesn’t always hold my attention well. I had to listen to this audiobook at 1.25x speed because it is impossible to understand at a higher speed. That lead to me feeling impatient. If you aren’t an impatient listener, give this audiobook a shot.
