Welcome to Boomerang.com, the dating site for the millennial gen, with no-fuss, no-commitment matchups and where the action on the job is steamier than any random hookupMia Galliano is an aspiring filmmaker. Ethan Vance has just played his last game as a collegiate soccer star. They're sharp, hungry for success, and they share a secret.Last night, Ethan and Mia met at a bar, and, well . . . one thing led to another, which led to them waking up the next morning—together. Things turned awkward in a hurry when they found themselves sharing a post-hookup taxi . . . to the same place: Boomerang headquarters. What began as a powerful connection between them is treated to a cold shower, courtesy of two major complications. First, Boomerang has a strict policy against coworkers dating. And second, they're now competing for the same job opening in the fall.As their internships come to an end, will they manage to keep their eyes on the future and their hands off each other, or will the pull of attraction put them right back where they started?
I am so beyond glad that Boomerang by Noelle August showed up in my mailbox. Even if it did not show up, at the current price of $1.99 as of August 12, 2014, I would have purchased it. Sometimes you just really need a light and funny book with the sexytimes. Furthermore, this book is exactly what the whole New Adult genre should be — people who are either in or out of college doing college things like partying and interning as opposed to books about girls looking for a meal ticket. Boomerang is so refreshing, in a genre that is filled with books that seem so full of angst and are kind of downers, this book is total ray of sunshine.
Mia wakes up in a strange apartment on the morning of her first day at her new internship. She’s concerned because she’s got no clue where her undergarments went. Furthermore, the guy she wakes up to is totally good looking. So, after getting ready super quickly at the last minute, Mia is on her way out the door, but still unable to remember what exactly happened last night. The guy, Ethan, ends up splitting a cab with her because it seems they are going in the same direction. Coincidentally they are also in the same building.
When the two get to Boomerang, the company of Mia’s internship, they discover that they both have received an internship at the same company and that they are both competing for a job with Boomerang, which is an internet dating start up. To make matters even worse, there is a strict no dating your coworkers policy at Boomerang, but that totally does nothing to alleviate the attraction between Mia and Ethan. And so, Boomerang by Noelle August is a bit of a romantic comedy about Mia and Ethan competing for a future job and playing “pranks” on each other while simultaneously fighting their feelings for each other.
Mia’s character definitely reminds me of my favorite leading ladies in the romantic comedies that I like. I mean, she’s like Meg Ryan in that she’s really, really personable. So, Mia is very body confident which is awesome. She’s not the type to sit around and lament what eating an ice cream cone or a slice of pizza will do to her figure. She also has these really awesome best friend roommates. AND! She has life goals! She’s not looking for some guy to pay her way through life. Mia has just finished film school and now she wants to get started making a name for herself, so she figures by doing media and marketing for Boomerang, she will get her foot in the door. I loved her ambition.
Ethan’s character was one of the better New Adult male leads. He’s actually a nice guy. He coaches a youth soccer team and unfortunately is not playing the sport now because of a knee injury. He really misses the game though. Anyways, after graduating college he is not sure what to do with his life. He wants to stay in LA but the money is running out and since he can’t play soccer, it’s not like he has that scholarship anymore. So, anyways, he decides that he really, really wants the Boomerang job position once the internship runs out. He could use the money, after all. Further, it is a job that he enjoys doing. So, Ethan will do whatever it takes to win.
Boomerang by Noelle August alternates point of view chapters between Mia and Ethan. It is a super adorable book that reads very, very fast. Like, if you need to read something that feels like a beach read in that it’s fluffy and funny and will have you grinning from ear to ear, well this would be the book. It’s the definition of breezy, but there’s some really touching family moments as well. This book is the total package when it comes to New Adult.
