Ben Rosewood never meant to be bound to a vampire succubus, especially one as sexy-yet-terrifying as Eleonore Bettencourt-Devereux, but he has to admit there are some fang-tastic perks….
Werewolf Ben Rosewood is happy with his life. One hundred percent. Everything is fine. His business, Ben’s Plant Emporium, is thriving, and he’s even expanding the shop. His anxiety disorder is…well, it’s been better, but that comes with the territory of running a business and having beastly urges every full moon, right? As for romance—who has the time? Though his family is desperate to see him settled, Ben is fine approaching forty as a single werewolf. But after drunkenly bidding on and winning a supposedly-possessed crystal on eBay one night, he finds himself face-to-face with a beautiful yet angry vampire.
Eleonore Bettencourt-Devereux is a rare breed—a vampire succubus born from two elite European bloodlines during medieval times. Thanks to an evil witch, she’s been stuck in a crystal since she was thirty, forced to obey orders from the possessor of the rock. Eleonore's been dreaming of breaking the spell and severing the witch’s head for centuries. But did this witch really sell her to someone new, and for only ninety-nine cents?
Eleonore would claw this werewolf’s heart out and eat it, if only the binding spell would allow her to. But Eleonore and Ben soon realize they can help each other with both vengeful and less hostile needs. And why not have a little fun along the way?
Tis the season for paranormal romance! There is something about picking up a werewolf romance right as the leaves are turning. A Werewolf’s Guide To Seducing A Vampire by Sarah Hawley is the third in the Glimmer Falls series. Disclaimer: I have not read the first two books yet. However, the context is easy to figure out and I wasn’t too lost while reading. This was a mostly cute book with some heavier themes and some interesting mental health representation of anxiety and trauma.
A Werewolf’s Guide To Seducing A Vampire opens up with Ben Rosewood, a werewolf, attending the wedding of characters from a previous book in the series. Ben is lonely and when he gets up he orders a plastic crystal while under the influence, from eBay for $0.99, Inside the crystal is a vampire succubus named Eleonore who is cursed to obey the commands of the person who owns the crystal. When the crystal and Eleonore arrive at Ben’s house,Eleonore is like a spitting mad cat. However, Ben is a super genuinely nice guy. He is, however, quite attracted to Eleonore and vice versa. Ben and Eleonore team up to find the witch who trapped her so Eleonore can get her revenge. At the same time, we learn that Ben’s sister has decided to run for mayor of Glimmer Falls and also, Ben is expanding his business.
I think my reading experience of Sarah Hawley’s A Werewolf’s Guide To Seducing A Vampire was really impacted by me having COVID while reading it. I just had a hard time caring. It felt like the characterization was a little shoehorned. I also would start getting into how the relationship was unraveling and how the plot was moving forward when the book would get weirdly spicy. It totally took me out of the story and just did not seem natural. However, maybe I was being nitpicky because I was so sick when I picked this up. I am going to give Hawley’s Glimmer Falls another shot and read the others in the series. I do think this is worth picking up for a semi-spicy autumnal read — particularly for those who want a paranormal romance.
@aprilbooksandwine A Werewolf’s Guide To Seducing A Vampire by Sarah Hawley – cute but not quite for me. Each spice part seemed abrupt and took me out of the story. However thats not to say you wont like it. #aprilbooksandwine #Inverted
