Why Did I Listen To Never A Bride by Megan Frampton?

Never A Bride by Megan Frampton is another book straight off the TBR cart and on the Hoopla app. The appeal was there because it contains one of my favorite tropes. That trope? Fake engagement! Seriously, I love it when a book goes into that trope. And Never A Bride does a relatively admirable job exploring this plot line.

What’s The Story Here?

Frampton’s Never A Bride is about Lady Della Howlett who absolutely does not have a good reputation among the ton. You see, years ago she got pregnant by this guy that she thought was going to marry her, but he did not. So, she was basically cut off by her parents. And now she lives in her own house with her daughter and a friend and her friend’s daughter. Her love interest is Griffith Davies who spent over a decade in the the Navy. He’s now returned to land and is about to be a duke. This means he’s got the attention of the ladies of the ton, but he doesn’t want that attention. So, he ends up entering into a fake engagement with Della in order to get the other women to back off. And well, I think we all know the direction this is going to go in.

How Did I Like Never A Bride?

Out of all the historical romance I have been listening to lately, Never A Bride is one of the better listens. First of all, I thought it was unique that Della was a single mom. You don’t really come across that too much in historical romance, unless the woman is a widow. I loved that bit of uniqueness. Also, Della is really an awesome mother. I also felt like she was pretty bold and sex positive as well. And Griffith was super sweet and kind. And then there’s a side plot involving Della’s friend who lives with her which is excellent as well. Seriously, I just really enjoyed this audiobook.

How’s The Narration?

The audiobook of Never A Bride is narrated by Jilly Bond. This is the second book I’ve listened to that’s been narrated by Bond —the first was Seven Days Of Us which is absolutely not historical romance, but still pretty good via audio. I really enjoyed this audiobook and listened to it slightly sped up. It was easy to follow Bond’s narration and understand every word. The audiobook is well produced and the narration is never dry or boring. It is 8 hours and 14 minutes unbridged. Check this one out for a solid introduction to Megan Frampton.
