In The Do-Over, a teenage girl gets the chance to redo her past in this smart and charming YA novel by the author of When Life Gives You Demons, Jennifer Honeybourn.
Emelia has always wanted to fit in with the A crowd. So, when Ben, the hottest guy in school, asks her out, she chooses him over Alistair, her best friend—even after he confesses his feelings to her.
Six months later, Emilia wonders how her life would have been different if she’d chosen Alistair instead. Haunted by her mistake, she finds a magical solution that promises to rectify the past. As a result, everything in her life is different.
Different, but not better.
What happens if her second chance is her only chance to make things right?

I had randomly picked The Do-Over by Jennifer Honeybourn to read off my TBR cart because it was short and I quite liked the bright cover. Previously I had read Honeybourn’s Wesley James Ruined My Life and enjoyed my time with it. So, it seemed reasonable that I would also enjoy my time with this contemporary book. If not, at least it would prove to be a really fast read and easy to get through to clear more space on the shelves.

The Do-Over is about Emilia, a high school girl who just wants to fit with the in-crowd. As the book opens, Emilia goes to a party held by popular boy Ben. There, Ben asks her out and she accepts. Emilia ends up ditching her best friend Alistair who wanted her to leave with him. Anyways, she finds out the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. So, Emilia desperately wants a do-over. She ends up getting her wish and so her life instantly changes to what would have happened had she not gone out with Ben. Emilia only gets one do-over, so her decision is final. However, again, what happens is not quite what she expected and now she’s left pining over Alistair, again.

Overall, I thought that The Do-Over was an okay book. I would have liked it if Emilia was a better communicator, but that’s life. What was neat was in her second chance, she made a new friend and I enjoyed seeing that unfold. Also, there’s a lot of Settlers Of Catan in this book which is neat and different. I like when characters have a hobby. However, in the end, I do not feel any particular attachment to this book. I don’t regret reading it, but I also probably would not regret having not read it.
