“A fantasy-tinged sapphic romance with perfect banter.”—People

A down-on-her-luck woman makes a deal with a crafty demon to win back her ex-girlfriend after a proposal gone awry, only to discover the girl of her dreams might be the devil she knows, from nationally bestselling author Alexandria Bellefleur.

Samantha Cooper is having a day from hell.

In less than 24 hours, her life has unraveled, leaving her single and with nowhere to live. Adding insult to injury, she’s trapped in an elevator with a gorgeous woman claiming to be a demon.

Daphne is not at all what Samantha expected from someone claiming to be an evil supernatural entity. She’s pretty, witty, dressed in pink, and smells nice. And she’s here to offer Samantha a deal she can’t refuse. Six wishes in exchange for one tiny trade—Samantha’s soul. There’s a glaring loophole in their contract, one Samantha fully intends to exploit so she doesn’t fork over her soul. After all, she only needs one wish to win her ex back.

Hell-bent to gather the last of the one thousand souls she needs so that she can be free of her own devilish deal, Daphne grants each of Samantha’s wishes . . . with a twist, so that Samantha is forced to make another.

As Samantha’s wishes dwindle and Daphne offers her glimpses into the life she thought she wanted, the unlikely pair grows close. Perhaps the girl of Samantha’s dreams is actually the stuff of nightmares, but Samantha and Daphne will have to outsmart the Devil himself if they want a chance at happily ever after.

Why Did I Listen To The Devil She Knows by Alexandria Bellefleur?

I have only read one book by Alexandria Bellefleur previously — Written In The Stars — and absolutely adored it. When the chance came up to listen to The Devil She Knows, I knew I had to seize it. After all, who doesn’t like a sapphic romance centering around a deal with the Devil?

What’s The Story Here?

When we begin The Devil She Knows, Samantha is having a horrible, no good very bad day. She goes to propose to her girlfriend, Hannah, but instead is rejected and they break up. Now Samantha has nowhere to live and she’s single. Capping off her day? The elevator she is in gets stuck. However, Samantha is not alone. A gorgeous stranger is stuck with her. It turns out the stranger is a demon named Daphne. And so, Samantha bargains with her — six wishes in exchange for her soul. Daphne is one soul away from collecting one thousand and getting her freedom. Along the way, Samantha will use her wishes in ways to attempt to win Hannah back. Only, Daphne grants them with some interesting side effects. And did I mention there’s some chemistry between Samantha and Daphne?

How Did I Like The Devil She Knows?

I found that I enjoyed The Devil She Knows wholeheartedly. Honestly, this reinforced that I need to sit down and dive into the books by Bellefleur that I have not picked up yet. Daphne is such an interesting, complex character. Her backstory was fascinating and sad. I found I also did ultimately like Sam — particularly how she treats her two cats. She makes some not so great choices and to be fair, is hung up on Hannah, who sucks. But, she has to learn her lessons and that is a big part of this book. I think it would have been boring if she had started off perfect with no issues and hangups. She is a dynamic character who eventually finds her way, and that was a lot of payoff to me. Also, I just loved the banter and chemistry between her and Daphne. It was so obvious The Devil She Knows was going in that direction, but the journey to that destination was captivating and funny.

How’s The Narration?

The Devil She Knows audiobook is narrated by Ellie Gossage. Gossage’s narration is so charming and inviting. I found myself wanting to keep listening to this book as I went from chore to chore. What really stood out was how Gossage had different voices for Samantha, Daphne, Hannah, and even Coco (a side character). If you end up picking this book up, I really would recommend you get your hands on the audiobook, it was such a superb experience.
