For the first time in our 23 years of being sisters, April and I are doing a 5k together this weekend! In fact, this will be April’s first 5k race EVER and my fourth. We’re both relatively new to the running scene, training off and on for the past year or so. I don’t think either of us feels completely prepared but it will still be a good time! I think the fact that it’s in our hometown will be an extra motivator. To show up all those people who told me I wouldn’t amount to anything, you know? I’ve been in six races total, but this is the first one my parents will be at, so that will be nice as well!
The race is called the Turkey Trot, such a cute name, right? A lot of cities typically have them on Thanksgiving morning but this year it’s the Sunday before. This actually works out better for me as I will be at Ryan’s house on Thanksgiving (our grandparents host it the Saturday after). A lot of our extended family participate in the race as it’s in our hometown, so it will be nice to have another thing in common with them (we have over 25 cousins & many of them have children of their own).
Here are our ABC Goals for the race:
Cassie:
A. Run one full mile without stopping
B. Never walk more than .1 mile before running again
C. Have fun!
April:
A. To cross the finish line
B. To not freeze to death
C. To finish in under 40 minutes
Anyone else doing a run in the next week or so to fight off those turkey dinners? 🙂

I wish you luck! Once this baby finally pops out my big plan is to try running again. I started up one summer and actually enjoyed it; I was not at the 5K stage yet and then the pregnancies began and my doctor put the kibosh on training. This is my last baby, so running here I come! Have fun!
So you guys are probably already done running by now so I guess rather than GOOD LUCK I should say CONGRATS and I hope you met all of your goals! 🙂 I don’t have any races on the docket but I have ran a few 5k races before and find them to be pretty fun! They are the perfect distance, long enough to feel accomplished but not so long that the distance is overwhelming. 🙂
