What Are The Top 100 Young Adult Books of All Time?

While doing some research about social media, I came across stumbleupon. I did a quick stumbleupon for books and it brought me to an NPR list of the Top 100 Beach Reads. Being the lame-o that I am, I then went to google and looked up Top 100 YA Books, it sent me to ALA, Amazon, Goodreads, but not to a very definitive list. This got me thinking, I know some really awesome people out there who know so much about YA, who love all kinds of excellent books. What if we compiled a list of the Top 100 Young Adult Books of All Time as chosen by you lovely bloggers? Of course this probably won’t be the most definitive list ever made, or even the most scientific, but think of all of the awesome recommendations you can get from the list.

Here’s the deal, I have a google docs form where you can submit five nominations. To give people time to think about their nominations and to spread the word, I will leave nominations open until March 17th, 2010 which basically gives you a month.

On March 19th (to account for how long it’s going to take me to type and format the list) I will post the list for everyone to see.

  1. Only 5 nominations for the best books of all TIME? That's a pretty hard choice! It killed me to fill out that form 😀 Can't wait for the results!

Wow, amazing idea! I voted, but I kind of sorta screwed up the first time; I accidentally hit submit with only one book (The Book Thief) in there. EEP.

*can't wait to see the results*

Aaahhh!!! Love the idea, but it took me forever to come up with only 5! Hmm…are we going to be seeing a challenge with this one like we did the book blogger recommendation list? I hope so! 🙂

Diane Chen from School Library Journal has also been working on a top 100 YA list, asking for votes from school library media specialists, so I voted in hers as well. It will be interesting to compare the two lists 🙂

I can't wait to see that list! I choose a bit lesser known titles, so I'm looking forward to see if they made the mark. 🙂

  9. Really cool idea. I submitted the first five books I LOVE that came to mind. Otherwise, I would have been staring at those little boxes for years haha.

  10. This will take some thinking, but I'll be back 😛 Love the idea, btw!

  11. It was hard to shy away from series books for this, had to put in just one. All the ones I nominated are really old too. What a great idea, can't wait to see the list!

  12. Only five. That's hardddd. But I am looking forward to sending my five.

  13. based on your faves or popularity?

  14. April (BooksandWine) says

    Pam, based on faves!

  15. I'm going to have to think about this for a bit if I only get five…How about five classics and five modern? Eh? =D

  16. Oh I am so excited!! What a wonderful idea – I'm just having anxiety over limiting myself to five books!

  17. This is a wonderful idea and I look forward to seeing the compiled list! What better place than the blogosphere to put this together. Good thinking!

  18. I hope all of you did submit your suggestions on the blog and google docs at http://www.schoollibraryjournal.com/practicallyparadise

It is hard enough to pin people down for just 10, I love to picture the agonizing they'll be doing for just 5.

  19. Do you know how agonizing that was? I had to leave off some really great books, April. You're killing me!
