Why Did I Listen To This Book?

I initially listened to The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Anderson because it was assigned for a secret project. Unfortunately, I failed miserably at the secret project and ended up not listening to all of the books in time due to some personal things going on. The reason I listened to this one is because it was short, classic, seemed manageable and was narrated by one of my favorites – Katherine Kellgren.

What’s The Story Here?

Okay so basically the gist is that this troll guy who is the Devil has made a mirror that distorts the things it reflects and just makes everything look bad and ugly. So, then the devil tries to bring it into heaven to be a dick to god and the angels. Then the mirror slips into billions of pieces and breaks. They come back to Earth and get into people’s hearts and eyes, where the people can only see the bad.

Then, in the future there are two children, Kai, a boy and Gerda, a girl. They live next door and are BFFs. They learn about the Snow Queen from Kai’s grandmother. Kai then happens to see her, but is scared. Gerda learns a song about flowers. Then, okay, the mirror gets into Kai’s heart and he turns into a jerk. He only finds snowflakes beautiful.

That winter, Kai meets the Snow Queen twice and receives two kisses from her. She then kidnaps him. Then it is up to Gerda to find Kai, even though everyone thinks that he drowned. Of course, he did not and yeah, Gerda is about to head to Lapland and take on the Queen.

How Did I Like This Story?

Honestly, it has been nearly a year since I listened to this audiobook, so I do not remember exactly my feelings from when I listened to it. However, it is not a bad listen. I liked that I could connect elements of this story to Frozen, which haters gonna hate, I love.

How’s The Narration?

I listened to the version of The Snow Queen that is narrated by Katherine Kellgren. It is an hour and twenty minutes. Kellgren is the queen of narration always and forever and that is what you truly need to know.
