Welcome to Bell Cove, North Carolina.
Independence Day may have just passed in this small Outer Banks town known for its famous bells, but one ex-Navy SEAL has a declaration of his own to make . . .
Merrill Good knows there are many different kinds of exciting. There’s the adrenaline rush he experienced during his years in the military. There’s the thrill of starting up his own treasure hunting company. But topping them all is the surge of exhilaration he feels every time Delilah Jones crosses his path. Smart, voluptuous, and outspoken, Delilah is a bombshell with a secret that could explode at any moment.
Since Delilah moved to Bell Cove to take over her great-uncle’s Elvis-themed diner and motel, the locals have been nothing but friendly. And that’s a problem. The moment someone gets close enough to figure out her ex-con past, her future will be jeopardized. But keeping Merrill at arm’s length isn’t easy when the rest of her body has other ideas.
Add to the mix Delilah’s little girl who fashions herself “Little Orphan Annie,†a former showgirl grandmother with a gambling problem, a whole town full of quirky matchmakers, and there’ll be fireworks long after the Fourth of July . . .
Why Did I Listen To Life, Love, and the Pursuit of Happiness by Sandra Hill?
Sandra Hill writes such funny books. I’ve listened to one of her historical romances and throughly enjoyed it. Given that I like contemporary romance a bit more than historical, it seemed like a no brainer to listen to Life, Love, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Plus there is the matter of knocking this book off my TBR list and taking it off the TBR cart after listening. So, really, my mind might as well have been made up the minute I saw this book on Hoopla in the audiobook section.
What’s The Story Here?
Life Love, And The Pursuit Of Happiness is the second in Sandra Hill’s Bell Cove series. Although, honestly, I have not read the first book in the series. Apparently that does not matter because I was not lost at all while listening to this book. This book is the story of Delilah and Merrill. Delilah has come to Bell Cove to take over her late uncle’s Elvis themed diner and motel. However, it will need a lot of renovating and work. Delilah needs cash to complete this and so she begins work for Merrill’s treasure hunting company as a jill of all trades. Now, there’s some complication here because Delilah is an ex-felon and she has yet to inform Merrill of this fact. Oh and she also has a five year old daughter who is obsessed with Little Orphan Annie, but her daughter is in custody of her grandmother while Delilah puts her life in order and gets things ready for her daughter to come to her. Meanwhile, sparks are sizzling between Delilah and Merrill who not only has the treasure hunting company, but is an ex Navy Seal.
How Did I Like Life, Love, And The Pursuit Of Happiness by Sandra Hill?
Life, Love, And The Pursuit of Happiness is an immensely enjoyable read -whether you pick it up via audio or in print form. You can’t help but root for Delilah, even though she has a checkered past. She wants so badly to build a good life for her five year old daughter. Her daughter steals every scene she’s in by the way. As for Merrill, he’s very sweet to Delilah and I just loved how he came through at the end. OH and! There’s a bit of a found family trope with the crew for Merrill’s treasure hunting company. I loved the cast of characters and their unique attributes. It added a special wonderful flavor to the story.
How’s The Narration?
I really loved the audiobook version of this. The narrator is Megan Tusing. The audiobook is 9 hours and 30 minutes long. I listened to this sped up to 2x and honestly it was SUPER easy to understand what Tusing was saying sped up. That’s something I appreciate as I am trying to get through books kind of quickly to get some turnover on my bookshelves. At this point, I added the third Bell Cove book to be listened to via audio, as it is on my shelf and I had such a good experience with this audiobook.
