Why Did I Listen To This Audiobook?
It’s a Brandon Sanderson story, so Mitosis, a short story set between Steelheart and Firefight is bound to be good. Also? This was free on Audible and a little over an hour long and makes the perfect listen while I am contemplating my next full length audiobook.
What’s The Story Here?
Mitosis is set after Steelheart so stop here if you are totally anti-spoilers. Okay, so David has defeated Steelheart, the leader of the Epics in the previous book. However, that does not mean that all the other Epics are gone. Nope. In this short story, David takes on an Epic that has the ability of Mitosis – meaning that he is able to keep splitting himself up. Essentially, if he keeps splitting himself up, his powers grow less effective because they are spread so thin, but he can’t be killed because killing one of the iterations does not kill the other iterations. Also? This Epic multiplies really, really fast. Therefore, the crux of Mitosis is David and his band of Reckoners trying to figure out the weakness to defeat this Epic. Also? A horrible band and hot dogs play a pivotal role.
What Did I Ultimately Think Of It?
Brandon Sanderson’s Mitosis is a ridiculously short story. I would have liked more but honestly, it sated my appetite for more in the world of the Reckoners. I liked it overall, but would rather it be novella sized or like a tad bit longer.
How’s The Narration?
MacLeod Andrews narrated the audiobook of Mitosis and he does a decent job. His voice is not annoying to listen to by any stretch of the imagination. He’s believable as David. Audio production values are on point too. I think that reading this short story via audio is the way to go.
Sum It Up With A GIF:
Essentially this GIF is for the role that a hot dog stand plays in the story.
