Top Ten Books On My Winter 2013 TBR

I really love doing the Top Ten Tuesday Season TBR Prompt, there’s something about accountability and then the feelings of winning and awesome that I get when I actually read all of the books on my Seasonal TBR. Like, I just finished reading ALL OF THE BOOKS on my Fall 2013 TBR and am super excited to get cracking with the books on my Winter 2013 TBR. So, what’s on my TBR?

TTT Winter 2013 TBR

Winter Town by Stephen Emond

Why Is This On My TBR?: I added Winter Town mainly for it’s winter theme and also because I love the cover and I have had this book on my TBR since 2011, it is time to read it and move on. Also, I love the idea of a graphic novel interspersing a traditional novel, in a sense. It just sounds like a cool book.

Cracked by KM Walton

Why Is This On My TBR?: I always see this book on my various piles and get tempted to read it, but then just choose something else instead. It looks like Cracked will be a hard hitting read, so I am saving it for a day when I need a good punch in the feels.

Sorrow’s Knot by Erin Bow

Why Is This On My TBR?: Have you guys read Plain Kate? That book is so legit, so I am so excited to read Bow’s next book. I’ve heard it is really good.

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

Why Is This On My TBR?: DAT COVER. No, but really I just love Beauty And The Beast retellings.

Afterparty by Ann Redisch Stampler

Why Is This On My TBR?: I really enjoyed Stampler’s debut Where It Began even though it made me blindrage. I am okay with that. I am expecting this book will provoke my reactions as well.

The Creature Department by Robert Paul Weston

Why Is This On My TBR?: Of course, I stinking LOVE the cover, it is bright and colorful and glows in the dark, therefore perfect for me. Also, the concept is awesome – it’s about bringing movie creatures to life. AND THERE ARE PICTURES. I am excited you guys.

The Strange And Beautiful Sorrows Of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton

Why Is This On My TBR?: Here is the thing, Candlewick Press releases such gorgeous literary children’s and YA fiction, that I know I can turn to their books when I am in need of a book that will blow me over with it’s words. This is one that they seem to really be behind and I am going to trust that and give it a shot. Also? It sounds great.

Maybe One Day by Melissa Kantor

Why Is This On My TBR?: In reading that back cover, I feel that I am being promised SOBS. You guys this book better give me emotions OR ELSE.

Control by Lydia Kang

Why Is This On My TBR?: So, I actually plan on reading this within the next two weeks — I think that it sounds really good. The cover calls it a spiraling, intense, romantic read — so basically it was using adjectives that catch my attention.

Cress by Marissa Meyer

Why Is This On My TBR?: No explanation needed. Either you know my feels or you don’t.

  1. DYING to get into the Lunar Chronicles!
    Also, Control looks great.
I’ve had Cracked on my shelves for awhile, definitely getting to it soon!

  2. Maybe One Day is on my Kindle and waiting for me to cry over it…I hope… CRESS is one I’m SUPER looking forwards to! I’m eager to hear your thoughts on Cruel Beauty because it didn’t meet my expectations unfortunately… 🙁

  3. I recently read Winter Town and I wasn’t a fan but hopefully you’ll like it more than I did. I loved Maybe One Day, be prepared. I can’t wait to start Cruel Beauty and Afterparty too!

  4. I’m obsessed with fairy tale retellings myself haha (have you read Robin McKinley’s? She does AWESOME ones and she’s got 2 Beauty and the Beast ones!) I’m also looking forward to The Strange And Beautiful Sorrows Of Ava Lavender hopefully soon…I’m not going to lie, that cover maaaaay have had a big influence on me requesting the ARC since I’d sworn them off. And I thought I wasn’t a cover snob haha

  5. I will definitely be reading Cruel Beauty and Cress at some point this winter. I did my list on the books that I have coming up soonish, and since I am behind, well…but I will get to those. I will. 🙂

  6. Looks like you’ve got a lot of great books coming up this Winter. I can’t wait to read Cress!

  7. I have Cruel Beauty on my list for this month! It didn’t make my TTT this week, but I am very much looking forward to it. You have some other great books too (I really want to get my hands on the Lydia Kang book – I like her name =)

  8. Wow, congrats on finishing your autumn TBR list! I wish I could say the same, but I didn’t even make it halfway through my list. I’m so excited for Cress too!

  9. I want to read Cruel Beauty so bad! I love fairy tale retellings! And also jealous that you have Cress. Although I haven’t read the other books in the series (yet) I really want to read Cress.

  10. Awesome list! I really want to read Cress sometime too (Well the whole series actually)

Here is my Top Ten Tuesday list if you want to check it out!

    Happy Reading!

Chanzie @ Mean Who You Are.

  11. I totally forgot about Cress. Very bad. And Control looks good, too! Awesome pile! Both are on my giant TBR pile.
    Happy reading!

    CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY

  12. Cress! Can’t wait for this one too (I’m pretty sure it’s on everyone’s TBR at this point ^^) Hope you enjoy all these books, they look awesome!

  13. You know, I did my list a few weeks ago, but now seeing your list I remembered that I have some other books I plan on reading over the winter. So some of mine might get bumped.

Cracked is one of them, because the Author will be at YAFest 2014 in April. It’s being held in Easton Pa. Tons of authors so I want to get some of their books read. Too many books, not enough time! 🙂

Some of these others on your list, I’m not familiar with. I will have to look them up. My To read list will grow no doubt.

  14. Maybe One Day is AWESOME! Make sure you have tissues handy for all the feels. Hope you enjoy Afterparty. I tried but I just couldn’t get into it.

    Great list.

  15. Very excited for Control!!

  16. Oh great list April!
I’m so excited for Cress and Cruel Beauty. Look forward to your reviews.

WinterTown is next on my TBR. For almost the exact same reasons as you; because of it’s winter theme. 🙂

  17. I want to read them all! *grabby hands* I’m especially excited about Cress (I mean, come on. Who isn’t?!?) An awesome pile that I’d gladly call in sick to burrow into.

  18. Other than Cress, I haven’t really heard much about many of these! Looking forward to see what they’re all about and your reviews of them!

  19. Great list! I haven’t actually started the Lunar series yet, but I’m hoping to get to it this year. And I really want to read Cruel Beauty too. Looks so great! Happy Tuesday! 😀

  20. Dear April,
Your winter TBR list has a lot of overlap with mine, and I am so happy to see that Afterparty is there!!! To my mind, experiencing blindrage with Where It Began means that the reader went where I was trying to take her, and I appreciate that this was your reaction. Here’s hoping that Afterparty will make you crazed (in a good way)!
    Best,
    Ann

  21. Cruel Beauty is so good! I hope you enjoy it!

And ooh, Winter Town! I feel like I’ve been meaning to read that book forever.

  22. Holy cow, April, you read all your books on your Fall TBR list? That’s amazing. I’m terrible with actually following through on my TBR lists.

And also – totally jealous about that beautiful Cress at the bottom of your pile 🙂

  23. Great list! I really need to get to Cruel Beauty soon too. I had to put Control as a DNF, which is really rare for me, I was so excited for that book but just couldn’t get into it at all; gave up at 25%. Hope you get to them all 🙂 My TTT.

  24. You finished all of the books on your Fall TBR list?! Color me impressed! I am planning to read SORROW’S KNOT myself in the next few weeks – it looks so good! And I really think you’ll enjoy THE CREATURE DEPARTMENT.

    Happy reading!

  25. I know your feels!!!! Cress is up VERY SOON for me and I can’t wait! I also just started Cruel Beauty and it is NOT what I was expecting! But in a really good way! Can’t wait to see where the story goes. I have a copy of Afterparty.. but I may pass it on to another reader just because it isn’t a genre I tend to like.. but.. i’m not sure :/ hmmm…. Happy reading!
    ~Chelle

  26. I’m reading SORROW’S KNOT right now! So many beautiful phrases to quote already! Oh, CRUEL BEAUTY is another for my list! I’ll be hosting a week-long CRESS part from Feb. 2-8 called A Week of Rapunzel. Feel free to stop by and have fun and win stuff! 🙂

  27. Twinsies on quite a few of these. I like your plan: We each go first on a few of them and then report back to the other on what to read 😉

  28. Ooh, I have Maybe One Day as well, though mine is an e-ARC. I also really want to read Cruel Beauty and Cress, though I still need to read Scarlet. Great list!

  29. Gah! You just made me add a lot of books to my shopping list! those covers!!!
and I’m with you on the Candlewick books, they release some pretty interesting and different stuff.

    Happy winter reading!

  30. Winter Town is one of my FAVORITE books of all time. I love that it’s a mix of story, art, and comic. I hope you enjoy it 😀
