Don’t be fooled by the ridiculous cover, Lovestruck Summer by Melissa C. Walker is a fantastic read pertaining more to indie music than to the beach. Main character Priscilla, known by everyone else as Quinn, has scored an internship at an indie label in Austin. So she packs her bags and sets out for Texas, spending the summer at her cousin Penny’s apartment. Did I mention Penny is a sorority girl whose nickname is ‘Party Penny’? Quinn is definitely in for an ‘interesting’ summer.
Lovestruck Summer is a cute, breezy read. There’s romance, obviously. But it’s a love triangle and not really an annoying one, but one where you can tell who Quinn is going to pick from the first page the boys are introduced. There is gorgeous Sebastian, the hipster who is perfect on paper for Quinn. And then there is Russ, the down home Texas boy who lives in the same apartment complex as Penny who has a penchant for getting on Quinn’s nerves.
If you’ve ever read a romance in your entire life, I should think you would be able to guess who Quinn gets with. And well, we all know it’s not exactly the resolution that matters, but the journey. Friends, it’s a fun journey with CUTE moments.
I liked Quinn as a character. She reminded me a lot of myself when I was younger. I was really judgmental. I believed you just put people in their social hierarchy boxes and move on. Obviously I’m not exactly like that any more, but Lovestruck Summer certainly brought me back. Yet, Quinn learns a few major Life Lessons. More power to her. I certainly enjoyed seeing her come to realizations about how you shouldn’t judge people immediately.
Also, while reading Lovestruck Summer I geeked out a little because there’s a scene where Quinn decides to wear the perfect t-shirt. AND AND the t-shirt is actually from a real bar in the college town that I live in and have spent many a drunken night at. So I was jazzed that a place that I have been to is in a book set in Texas.
Lovestruck Summer by Melissa C. Walker is an adorable contemporary romance. It’s the perfect palate cleanser or readathon book.
Disclosure: I won my copy from Green Bean Teen Queen.

I’m glad you enjoyed Lovestruck Summer! It’s such a fun little book!
Yes! I liked that it was breezy but with a little depth!
I love reading books like this, by Catherine Clark, Rachel Hawthorne, Kate Cann, etc, etc. The covers are cute and ridiculous, and the stories (usually) prove to be entertaining. I’ll pick this one up soon!

I need to try those authors, because I love an entertaining story 😀
I’m glad you enjoyed this one, too! Capillya is the one who recommended it to me awhile back. She said it was a Ginger book, and she was so right 🙂 I thought Melissa did a great job of nailing the Austin scene. And how could I not love a book filled with music & hot boys?! Instant win!
Capillya’s recommendations are legit.
I kind of want to check Austin out because the scene sounds awesome!!
I’m too used to adult romance and YA sexytimes…I skip a lot of romcoms because of that.
My name is Allison and I am a booksex slut.

This one sounds super cute! I don’t read very much of the romance-y books, b/c they just aren’t really my thing, but yay for fun and cute books! I totally geek out when someplace that I know is in a book too! Like Unearthly by Cynthia Hand- The mall they go prom dress shopping at is totally my mall! 😀
