2012 Penguin Putnam Upstate NY Warehouse Sale Alert

Every year, I get super excited about living in upstate NY because it means I live close enough to hit up the annual Penguin-Putnam Publisher Warehouse Sale in Conklin, NY. You can check out my previous announcements by clicking here and here.

Here I am at the sale last year, stealing my boyfriend’s hat and gloves because it was FREEZING.

The 2012 Dates:

  • Saturday, November 3 from 1-8 PM
  • Monday, November 5 from 5-8 PM
  • Tuesday, November 6 from 5-8 PM
  • Wednesday, November 7 from 5-8 PM
  • Thursday, November 8 from 5-8 PM
  • Friday, November 9 from 5-8 PM
  • Saturday, November 10  from 1-5 PM

The Location:

The Old Maines Warehouse in Conklin, NY

Directions:

Interstate 81 Northbound: Make a left off exit 1. Go .8 miles to light at Conklin Rd. Turn right. Go 6.2 miles and turn left onto Terrace Drive. Interstate 81 Southbound: Take exit 3 to traffic light. Turn right, go to 2nd traffic light and turn left. Go over the bridge to Conklin Rd. turn right. Go .4 miles and turn right onto Terrace Drive.. When it comes to GPS, I usually just throw 1 Terrace Drive into my GPS and that takes me right where I need to go.

Payment Methods:

They totally do not accept credit card, I KNOW so weird, like who really uses checks anymore. So be sure to use cash, and if you are using checks, bring 2 forms of ID with you.

What you can expect:

  • Lots of children’s and YA books
  • Non fiction
  • Fiction
  • Audiobooks
  • Cookbooks
  • Waiting in a long line to get inside.

The prices are good too, and they decrease as the sale goes on. There’s been years where I spent $150 and left with over 50 new books.  I will probably go on Thursday, so if you’re going tweet me and we may meet up! FYI here is a screen shot of the email I was forwarded with the information:

  2. Oooooh so jealous! That sounds like a lot of fun!!!

  3. So…if this wasn’t like a 4 hour drive for me I’d totally consider it. It’s probably not worth the anxiety though. 😛

  4. I WANT TO GO WITH YOU! That is seriously that coolest book sale ever! How exciting. I’m not even in NY, and I’m all excited for you to go to this.

  5. WHY DON’T I LIVE THERE?

I want to go to there. 🙁

  6. That’s really cool! Hope you find lots of treasures 😀

  7. Very jelly! (And I don’t use that word. Ever.) I wish they had it on Sunday, or Veteran’s Day, or SOMETHING, so I could get there on a non-Saturday non-school day. 🙁
    Enjoy!

  8. OMG! I am from CNY. Syracuse. How did I not know about this? I might try to go on Saturday. Is it really insane? Thanks so much for sharing this.

    • I have gone for the last 5 years and drive up from Westchester County… it is WELL worth it! Bring a suitcase, you’ll fill up on books fast! I brought 2 suitcases last year, filled those up then a box too!

  9. I WANNA GOOOOOOOO.

  10. I am about 3 hours away from this! Hmmm… I’m wondering if I can get away to make the trip!

  11. I have gone to the Penguin sale in Conklin for the last 5 years and I drive all the way from Westchester County to go (3 hour drive). It is WELL worth it!
I am on the email list of theirs to be alerted of when it is, but never received mine this year. Do you know the email address for it so I can have my name put back on the list? I would soo greatly appreciate it!
    Thank you!!!

  12. Awesome post! I used to live in Conklin, and now live 20 minutes away. The Penguin book sale is so much fun! Last year I got over 25 books, I’m thinking this year I should just bring a suitcase to carry them all though because those boxes end up being waayyy to heavy to carry..lol. Hope you have a great time! 😀

  13. i,ve gone for a few years…if you like books theres tons tons…cheap….all new…

  14. Have heard about this but never been. Just hear friends from Binghamton are going. Your ADVICE is great. How can I get an idea of titles though and could you give an idea of prices perhaps???
Thanks a lot on the suitcase tip.

    • Hi Janet!

Pricing tends to be $1-2 for paperbacks and $3-5 for hardcovers and decreases as the sale goes on.

Titles are usually their big sellers, so I would say look for last year’s releases there. There’s going to be lots of childrens and YA, cookbooks, and I’d say a good amount of adult fiction too. Like, there’s almost always the Charlaine Harris Sookie Stackhouse books and boxset.

  15. Thank you for posting this information! I have been searching for info and you have done the company a favor as the info is really hard to find.
I am so excited to be in town for it this weekend.
    Thanks!
