Celebrate sleep with Dr. Seuss's classic rhyming good-night picture book. Van Vleck, a very small bug, is getting sleepy, and his yawn-contagious as yawns are-sets off a chain reaction, making all those around him feel sleepy, too! With typically Seussian nods to alarm clocks, sleepwalking, and snoring, this charming ode to bedtime will lull listeners (and readers) toward dreamland. Zzzzzzzzzz. From the Hardcover edition.
I feel so fortunate that I grew up with Dr. Seuss. It was a more wonderful than wonderful childhood – with themed days at school, that excellent Christmas special where being a Grinch has entered our lexicon, and then finally, my bits of leadership were memorialized by Oh The Places You’ll Go. I cannot imagine being growing up without these books.
When it came time to choose a book to talk about for the Celebratory tour today – I picked The Sleep Book because A) I love sleeping and B) I never get enough sleep as an adult, so perhaps some themed reading could help me out a little bit with that issue. And so, as the front end papers instructed, I read The Sleep Book in bed aloud to the boyfriend Josh, who promptly fell asleep after reading (just kidding just kidding).
Dr. Seuss’s The Sleep Book is about everyone putting away their horns for the night and just sleeping. It is about the sleep walkers, the sleep talkers, and the sleep hoop and stick players. It is about the tally kept as each person in the land falls asleep. It is full of vivid color for a book about sleeping. It’s also the perfect bedtime story and sort of made me want a kid to read it to.
