"A bold and expertly plotted page-turner." --Courtney Summers, New York Times bestselling author of Sadie

From the author of The Cheerleaders, comes a thriller about best friends on a weekend getaway that goes horribly, dangerously wrong.

THREE BEST FRIENDS, A LAKE HOUSE, A SECRET TRIP -- WHAT COULD GO WRONG?

It was supposed to be the perfect prom weekend getaway. But it's clear something terrible happened when Claire wakes up alone and bloodied on a hiking trail with no memory of the past forty-eight hours.

Now everyone wants answers--most of all, Claire. She remembers Friday night, but after that . . . nothing. And now Kat and Jesse--her best friends--are missing.

What happened on the mountain? And where are Kat and Jesse? Claire knows the answers are buried somewhere in her memory. But as she's learning, everyone has secrets--even her best friends. And she's pretty sure she's not going to like what she remembers.

Why Did I Listen To That Weekend by Kara Thomas?

That Weekend by Kara Thomas appealed to me because as I was transitioning from summer to fall, I wanted books that would put me in a spooky state of mind. While That Weekend does not have a ghost story, it does have a thriller sort of element. So, the seasonal associations were there. Also, I do enjoy listening to thrillers via audio — I find them really easy to follow along with.

What’s The Story Here?

Kara Thomas’s That Weekend is about Claire who went partying during prom weekend with her friends at a cabin in the Catskills. She comes back but Kat and Jesse do not. As it turns out, Claire can’t remember what happened. She wants desperately to know what happened that weekend more than anyone else. She misses her best friend. Also, turns out Claire might come under suspicion. As it is, Claire eventually will learn that her best friends had secrets that will change her perception of them.

What Did I Think Of That Weekend by Kara Thomas?

Well, That Weekend has quite the twist. Not only was Claire’s perception altered, but so was mine. I thought I knew things about certain characters, but I was wrong. And then this book takes things a little far. I mean, hurl a little bit far. Now, I won’t spoil you, but I will say that one twist was kind of a let down and came out of nowhere and was so disappointing and weird. It made me drop this book down to two stars. View Spoiler »

How’s The Narration?

One thing Kara Thomas’s That Weekend had going for it was the narration. I really felt Phoebe Strole and Kristen Sieh did an excellent job with the material. Both infused their sections with character and really made this such a good listening experience. After listening to this book, I do think I will try more from Kara Thomas but with some adjusted expectations.
