A summer job at a lake-town resort brings together two women with an unlikely connection in this new contemporary romance by USA Today bestselling author Ashley Herring Blake.

April Evans’ life is in shambles. She’s had to close her tattoo shop in Clover Lake and she’s subletting her house to cover her mortgage. And her love life? Nonexistent ever since Elena, her ex-fiancée, left her for a younger woman three years ago. When she is asked to teach a summer art class at the town’s new resort called Cloverwild, April jumps at the opportunity, especially since the job comes with boarding. She’s sure that this is the silver lining she needs . . . until she meets her cabinmate: Daphne Love, the woman who stole her ex-fiancée. And even worse, it’s clear Daphne has no idea who April is.

Daphne Love is cursed in, well, love. She thought she’d found the unconditional love she craved in her girlfriend, Elena, but now she’s single again and utterly brokenhearted. When her friend hooks her up with a summer gig as an art instructor at a swanky resort in New Hampshire, Daphne feels optimistic for once. If only she had a roommate and coworker who didn’t seem to hate her on sight.

Their already-tense relationship gets even shakier when April and Daphne find themselves competing for a rare opportunity to showcase their art in a London museum. But slowly, barriers begin to fall, and an inexplicable allure keeps drawing them closer, leaving them to wonder if the perfect picture they’re looking for can only be made with each other.

Why Did I Listen To Get Over It, April Evans by Ashley Herring Blake?

When I start listening to an author’s books — that is basically the only format I want to continue in. Get Over It, April Evans by Ashley Herring Blake is the third book I’ve listened to from this author – and what a joy they continue to be to listen to. I adore these sapphic contemporary romance books that often delve into difficult family relationships. I liked the first book in the Clover Lake series Dream On, Ramona Riley and was eager to continue on. Also, the fact that I share a name with the title character just increases the appeal as I don’t experience that very often.

What’s The Story Here?

Get Over It, April Evans follows main character April Evans who is an artist. Her life is kind of imploding. She had this tattoo shop in Boston but has to close its doors because business is not booming. She’s renting her home out for the summer. So, she takes a job in Clover Lake teaching art at a resort. While there, she ends up having to room with someone who has played a role in her implosion. Daphne Love is a young artist who has come to Clover Lake to also help teach art at the resort, following a breakup with Elena. Oh, also, Elena is April’s ex and Daphne is who Elena was seeing and eventually left April for. Daphne, by the way, isn’t aware of this and has no idea why April doesn’t like her.

Anyways, over time, the two start having chemistry together and it seems like they could really end up in a relationship. That is! Until! They start competing for the opportunity to have their art shown at a prestigious gallery. Regardless of the competition, they do start connecting and building a trust. Both Daphne and April experience character growth that felt meaningful. I liked that Daphne grew confidence and April grew in trust.

How Did I Like Get Over It, April Evans?

As I had expected going into this book, I really enjoyed Ashley Herring Blake’s Get Over It, April Evans. I felt like there was realistic character growth. Both of our main characters have been unlucky in love. Both have some growing to do. I liked the progression each took in order to be ready for their chemistry, so to speak. There were emotional parts that felt real and raw. Also, it was sad reading about how Daphne’s family rejects her because they are really religious so having a lesbian daughter is not okay. Then we have April’s parents who are wealthy but just seem to treat April as an accessory. Oh and I also liked that we got to meet the main character of the next book, Sasha. The writing in this story was easy to follow with the narration, I could picture the interactions, the characters and Clover Lake so clearly.

How’s The Narration?

The audiobook of Get Over It, April Evans is narrated by Gail Shalan. I liked that it felt like series continuity as Shalan also narrates the first Clover Lake book. Shalan’s narration is easy on the ears. Her voice is smooth and a wonderful listen. I liked that the alternating chapters between April and Daphne felt as though they had different narrators, even though both are narrated by Shalan. The audiobook is 11 hours and 15 minutes long and an absolute pleasure to listen to. I find that I am looking forward to the next in the series and am hopeful that Gail Shalan also is the narrator.
