In 2021, I Hereby Resolve To:

Check out my resolutions for 2021 - from bookish resolutions to fitness and more.

1. Unhaul 50 Books. This is a pretty standard one for me. As I set my goodreads goal for 100 books this year, I think it is reasonable to want to unhaul at least half of those books and clear space for new books to enter my life. Also, it just feels really good to drop off a donation of books or to place them into the Little Free Library on our property (my husband built me one for my birthday back in 2019).

2. Review Books As I Finish Them. I have this horrible habit of reading a book and then procrastinating and reviewing it like 4 months later. I do end up missing out on some details and my feelings just are not as fresh when I wait to review them. Whether the review is long or just a paragraph, I want to knock my reviews out of the way and not have them hanging over my head.

3. Complete 1 Puzzle Per Month. At least. So, in 2020 I cultivated my habit of getting into puzzles, only I stopped doing them in June because I just got so tired and then never really picked it back up. However, I still kept buying puzzles (contrary to one of my resolutions last year). This year, I want to actually do those puzzles. Plus, I feel like I absorb audiobooks so much better and feel kinder toward the ones I listen to while puzzling.

4. Get More Personal. I have been book blogging for a little over 11 years at this point. As is normal for anyone, sometimes it feels like I am just phoning it in and I am not feeling a ton of enthusiasm. I have found that I am really drawn to blogs that include personal stories and talk about things besides books. If reading that makes me happy, I think writing about it will make me happy too and hopefully breathe new life into this space.

5. Use Up My Products. I would like to hit 2 “empties” per month. This means I’d like to declutter some products and start actually using up the things I buy like lotion and body wash and makeup and cleaning products without continually buying more. That’s my issue, I use products, but then I obtain new ones and start using those instead of using up what I already have.

6. Get Vaccinated For COVID When It Is My Turn. Obviously this is self explanatory. I did talk to my OB this week and I feel fairly confident about getting the vaccine, although ideally I would like to wait until after I have delivered to get it. However, she described it to me as the benefits outweighing the risks and how dangerous it can be to get COVID as a pregnant woman. Luckily my husband got his first vaccine this week and experienced no side effects.

7. Walk 3 Miles Per Week Either On The Treadmill Or Outside With The Dog.  I am giving myself the exception of delivery and maternity leave because I do not want to do anything I am not cleared to do by my doctor. However, I like the way that moving and exercising makes me feel. I have decided on walking instead of running so as to ease myself into a healthy habit without screwing up my knees or going too hard too fast. Also, I got Powerbeats for Christmas, so I am looking forward to using them while walking and listening to an audiobook or watching a TV show.

8. Wear My Pre-Pregnancy Clothes Before 2022. So, after my last pregnancy I never really fit perfectly back into my pre-pregnancy clothes. That is fine, life is life and I carried a whole person for over 9 months. I ended up buying new clothes. I like those clothes now and would like to be able to wear them before the end of the year. It’s not as much pressure as getting into my pre-kids body. And if I don’t get there, guess I will just buy new clothes again. However, I think walking and having a dog that needs activity will help. Maybe I will also learn to like healthier food too!

9. Get Family Photos Taken. We did not do family photos in 2020. Sure, we have some selfies we took with our iPhones. That isn’t the same as having a professional take pictures. And well, the pandemic was a good reason not to do pictures in 2020. Now that we have our baby boy on the way, I would really like to actually get some photos taken by a photographer to document our expanding family. One cool thing is that I do plan to actually get maternity photos this time around, as this is our last child that we anticipate having.

10. Hit Level 40 In Pokemon Go. Hahaha, I have been playing this game since July 2016 and am a level 38. I would live to finally hit level 40 even though they added new levels, but realistically I will not be able to hit those new levels. By the way if you want to be Pokemon Go friends my trainer code is: 212871740042.

  1. I don’t know why or how, but I absolutely cannot move on from a book if I don’t write a review, I usually write all of my reviews within a week of reading them – even pleasure reads.

  2. I love reading about new year plans and resolutions. I also want to get a little more personal on my book blog, which has been difficult for me in general.
