I am so excited to be part of the Little Excavator blog tour today. It is relevant to and totally appropriate for my life. As you all know, I just had a baby boy in April so I am all about the picture books these days.
YOU GUYS! Little Excavator is this really adorable book by Anna Dewdney about a tiny little construction machine named Little Excavator. He desperately wants to be a part of the work site, but he can’t really do any of the jobs because he is so small. Little E is absolutely not one of the big rigs by any means. Luckily, he doesn’t need to be and there is a job that is found that is perfect for him.
Okay so you know how Father’s Day is on Sunday? Start a tradition now if your children or child is very young where Dad gets a book to read with his kids. In fact, this is a great one. First of all, there are construction vehicles. Who didn’t love Tonka trucks when they were little? No one, that’s who. Second, the art in this book is friendly – the vehicles are personified and don’t come across as evil. I say this from the place of a person who was scared of excavators as a little kid. Third, the message is great – being that the thing that makes us different actually is an asset and something to be grateful for.
While Josh read this to our son a bit earlier than Father’s Day, a good time was had by father and son, even when our baby was distracted by the curtains. However, let’s give him a break he’s only two months old.
