Why Did I Listen To Furthermore by Tahereh Mafi?
Furthermore by Tahereh Mafi popped up on Overdrive like out of nowhere. AND THERE WAS NO HOLD WAIT LIST. So, of course, I had to take advantage of that. You see, I had an ARC of this book sent as a thank you for participating in a contest promotion. So, I felt like I absolutely needed to read it sooner rather than later. Also? The audiobook is narrated by Bronson Pinchot and he has got a great reputation for children’s audiobook narration.
What’s The Story Here?
Furthermore by Tahereh Mafi follows the adventure of twelve year old Alice Alexis Queensmeadow as she goes on a quest to find her father. You see, Alice doesn’t think she has magic, in fact in her world she’s colorless (if I am remembering correctly — it has been four months since I listened to the audiobook. Also, note, I am the worst at reviewing things in a timely fashion. So, anyways, Alice goes looking for her dad in the land of Furthermore which is totally different from Ferenwood where she lives now. The only person she can depend on is Oliver, only his magic is all about being a liar. And so, Alice ventures forth bravely and discovers all kinds of things about herself as she goes to save her dad.
What Did I Think Of Furthermore?
Honestly, Tahereh Mafi’s middle grade book reminded me a lot of Alice In Wonderland. I basically have no complaints about that, because Alice In Wonderland is pretty darn awesome. I mean, I enjoyed this book a whole lot. It is very imaginative and whimsical. There’s definitely a subset of kids who are really going to like this book – those kids who are into fantasy and have already made their way through all the classics.
How’s The Narration?
Well, the audiobook of Furthermore is narrated by Bronson Pinchot, as I mentioned above. He’s a great narrator. His voice just really works for stories that are whimsical and a little bit weird. The audiobook is not a bad investment. However, I think that the story is captivating no matter which format you consume it in.
