“A book is a conversation between the author and reader,†says Maxwell. “It’s been ten years since I wrote The 21 Laws of Leadership. I’ve grown a lot since then. I’ve taught these laws in dozens of countries around the world. This new edition gives me the opportunity to share what I’ve learned.â€
Why Did I Listen To The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership by John C. Maxwell?
I bought The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership by John C. Maxwell for my boyfriend, Josh, because I had an audible credit laying around and he really wanted to read/listen to the book. I actually did not ever really intend to listen to it, and then the other day I started counting all my unfinished Audible books and the number was 55, this book was one of them. I am not one to shy away from a challenge, and so I decided to listen to The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership during my 3 hour round trip work commute. Also? This audiobook is under four hours and so I felt like I accomplished something super fast after finishing the audiobook.
What’s It All About?
Like most non fiction books, the title says it all. The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership by John C. Maxwell is about 21 different practices you should put into place if you want to be an effective leader. There were some that I knew already and also some that were new to me and that I want to put into practice. Personally, as I have recently been entrusted with a higher leadership position than I was previously in, I felt that this book was really informative and helpful going into my new position.
What Did I Learn From The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership?
It isn’t quite new, but The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership reiterated the idea of empowering your staff. It talked about how you need to make yourself dispensable, so that the office or your team can still function when you are not there. I know people who are afraid to do that, because they are scared of being replaced. However, this makes little sense to me because how do you go on vacation and leave the office behind if your team isn’t empowered. Also, it frees you up to focus on different things and be more productive. I also loved learning about how we will never be perfect leaders and how we should always keep learning. I felt like that was so important. This book makes me more motivated to continue developing my leadership skills.
Who Would I Recommend This Book To?
- People in supervisory positions
- People who aspire to attain supervisory positions
How’s The Narration?
Well, The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership is a quick read at 3 hours and 36 minutes. I did listen to the abridged version, thank goodness. Judge away, but the audiobook is narrated by the author. John C. Maxwell’s narration leaves something to be desired. Also the production values were staticky and felt sort of cheap. There was a scratchy kind of sound. I did not love the actual narration itself.
Sum It Up With A GIF:
This is basically my leadership philosophy, thanks Bey.
