Allison’s 2013 Resolutions

In 2013 I resolve to…

  1. Read 100 books. Last year my goal was 40 books and I was able to surpass it so I would really like to be able to challenge myself this year so I decide to make my goal 100 books. I really do think this will be attainable or at least I hope it is!
  1. Write out a schedule of reviews. I really think that I need to start planning my reviews in advance. I think it’ll help me feel more accomplished and productive. Also, having a deadline always helped me when having to do projects for school so hopefully setting a schedule of reviews would put me in the same frame of mind.
  1. Write at least 100 posts for Good Books & Good Wine. This year I was able to have 70 posts so just like with my reading challenge I would like to try and challenge myself this year and have more. I also really want to help April out and be a super productive co-blogger for her so that she doesn’t feel like all the pressure is on her shoulders.
  1. Leave comments on the blogs I visit. I’m usually pretty good about checking out other people’s blogs, and reading their reviews. I’m not so good at leaving comments not because I don’t want to but usually because I can’t think what to say. I really want to work on fixing this, and spread the comment love.
  1. Participate in at least one read-a-long. I keep hearing about all these great read-a-longs but have yet to actually participate in one. I resolve that I will find one that I really want to join and do it.
  1. Participate in at least three read-a-thons. I haven’t really had the opportunity to participate in any read-a-thons since I became a book blogger. I would really like to be able to join at least one of the Dewey read-a-thons. I’m not really sure whatever read-a-thons I may participate in but if you know of one, please feel free to let me know!
  1. Join one reading challenge. This resolution is already on its way to being completed as I’m planning on joining the Feminist Reads Challenge hosted by The Hiding Spot. I’m really excited about this because I think it’ll not only help me read more but also help me find more new books to check out.
  1.  Host more giveaways. I would really like to be able to host more giveaways this year. I don’t want to give a number or anything because I’m not sure of how many I will be able to do but I do plan on doing some. Hopefully I’ll be able to even open a couple internationally as well.
  1. Film a couple of video blogs. I have yet to film any video blogs but I would like to. I know I will most likely be very awkward because I hate being filmed or having my picture taken unless it’s a candid shot but, I still want to do it. I think it’ll be fun for everyone to actually be able to see me.
  1.  Listen to more audio books. Now that I have discovered the magic of audio books I definitely want to continue on that journey. So if you have any recommendations you think I need to check out, send them my way!
  1. Walk more. This resolution will have to wait until it gets a little warmer and the snow is all gone but I do want to walk more. I really don’t walk as much as I did when I was going to school since I don’t have to walk to classes or to the bus but that doesn’t mean I should stop walking entirely.
  1. Eat healthier and cut back on the soda. I’m going to be part of a wedding party in June so I really need to make sure that I’m somewhat careful about what I eat and drink. The last thing I need is to gain weight and/or be bloated when my friends’ big day arrives. Especially since we’re picking out the dresses on January 12th! Plus I like to be healthy too.
  1. Check out more new-to-me TV shows. I really want to check out all the shows that people have been insisting to me are super good. These include: Downton Abbey and Friday Night Lights but I’m open to more suggestions if you have them.
  1. Learn how to knit or crochet. I have been itching to find something crafty to do with my time because I used to love to do crafts when I was younger. Plus, I have always kinda wanted to learn how to knit or crochet. I used to know basic crocheting when I was younger but have completely forgotten it. So, here’s to hoping that I will be able to learn something new to pass the time.
  1. Figure out what I want to do with my life. I left this one for last because for me it is a really big resolution. As most of you know I have six years of college under my belt so to speak but have yet to figure out exactly what I want to do with it. I like the job I’m at now (for the most part) but I can’t help but think that it is time to move on, and find the career I’m really supposed to have. One where my degrees can be more useful. Rather or not this will happen this year remains to be seen but it is something that I resolve to do something about.

  1. Readalongs are SO FUN. I hope you find one you enjoy!

YAY FOR KNITTING. It’s so old ladyish and rad. (I speak from experience.)

  2. Very interesting goals and thanks for sharing them. It’s really inspiring to see what other people want to accomplish and makes me think about my own goals 🙂

  3. That “what to do with my life” one. We’ve all had that! That’s almost as tough as learning to crochet. ( I’m still working on that one.) But whatever you choose to do, you will rock out 100 percent. Look at what a great and dedicated blogger you’ve been!

  4. Great resolutions Allison! I, too, surpassed my 2012 challenge & upped the number to 100 books. I include audio & e-books into the mix. I am part of a NZ group on Goodreads so their group reads will keep me motivated. I am not good at reviewing books but I might give it a go this year. See you at the Dewey read a thon. I really want to take part but our date/time always screwed me up. I’m going to mark it on my calendar & set an alarm to make sure I take part 100%.

  5. Good luck with your goals! I crochet and it’s a great hobby. I love making little animals and gifts for people.

  6. Read-alongs and read-a-thons are so much fun! I hope that you get a chance to participate in some really awesome ones this year.

I’m also in complete agreement with you about your last goal. I’ve been out of college for nearly three years, and while I’ve done some jobs that I really liked, none of them has felt like the right one to me. Hopefully, by the time 2013 ends, things have changed for you and me!

  7. These are some great resolutions, Allison, many of which I am totally with you on! I totally need to create a blogging schedule because right now it’s so chaotic and I write so many last-minute posts that it super stresses me out. I’m hoping that a schedule will cut down on a lot of that and just make life easier. It’s great to have goals and things to work towards and I’m really hoping, like you, to get more involved in the book blogging community (because it ROCKS!).

Don’t worry, I’ve been out of college for the last 6 years and still don’t know what to do with my life or degree. Just try to find something that makes you happy. Keep on trying new things and learn what you like, are good at and don’t like so that, in the end, you can make the best choice for YOU. It’s all about self-discovery. Enjoy the process (even if it can be a bit frustrating!).

Happy New Year and good luck to you, lady!

  8. Those are great goals for the year! Best of luck in completing them, especially the last one!

  9. Great resolutions Allison! I set my goal at 100 books, too. And I’m SO with you on creating a review schedule and leaving more comments! I really love getting comments (more because I like reading how people react to a post/book/etc) so I know I really need to make it a priority this year. I go through the new posts on my blogroll about once or twice a week, and I’m finding that it helps to just pick a few posts per blog that I feel like I have something in contribution and just comment on those. I was getting so stressed for a while feeling like I needed to comment on every post I read, but now I just pick and choose so that I can leave better and more thoughtful comments instead of just a line or two. But sometimes I just write something short so the blogger knows I enjoyed reading their review 🙂

Anyway, yay for the read-a-long resolution! I participated in my first one last year (reading Charles Dickens’ Bleak House), and it was a great experience. I also really loved doing it for a book that I might have struggled with on my own because it gave me the chance to bounce ideas off of other readers and get their insight on the stuff that confused me.
