Waiting On Wednesday: Fat Angie by e.E. Charlton-Trujillo

So, I’ve never done a Waiting On Wednesday post before but I thought I would give it a shot. Especially since there are so many fantastic sounding books coming out in 2013! Here we go:

This week’s Waiting on Wednesday pick?

Fat Angie by e.E. Charlton-Trujillo

Fat Angie E.E. Charlton-Trujillo Cover

Release Date: March 12th, 2013

From Goodreads.com:

Her sister was captured in Iraq, she’s the resident laughingstock at school, and her therapist tells her to count instead of eat. Can a daring new girl in her life really change anything?

Angie is broken — by her can’t-be-bothered mother, by her high-school tormenters, and by being the only one who thinks her varsity-athlete-turned-war-hero sister is still alive. Hiding under a mountain of junk food hasn’t kept the pain (or the shouts of “crazy mad cow!”) away. Having failed to kill herself — in front of a gym full of kids — she’s back at high school just trying to make it through each day. That is, until the arrival of KC Romance, the kind of girl who doesn’t exist in Dryfalls, Ohio. A girl who is one hundred and ninety-nine percent wow! A girl who never sees her as Fat Angie, and who knows too well that the package doesn’t always match what’s inside. With an offbeat sensibility, mean girls to rival a horror classic, and characters both outrageous and touching, this darkly comic anti-romantic romance will appeal to anyone who likes entertaining and meaningful fiction.

Why am I looking forward to Fat Angie?

I’m really intrigued by the premise. I feel that there are several issues that can be tackled within the pages including bullying, teenage suicide, depression, sexuality, and eating disorders. It really feels like it will be a perfect book for the times. I’m also excited to read about the bond between Angie, and KC Romance. This definitely sounds like a book that could stick with you for a while.

  1. I hadn’t heard of this one and it sound great…thanks for putting it on my radar!

  2. Thanks for bringing this to my attention-it sounds like my kind of contemporary and I’ve added it to my goodreads to-read list.

  3. The premise does sounds intriguing. First time I’ve heard of it.

  4. Definitely intriguing! I kind of hope that they don’t do a “weight loss challenge” and have her turn into the ubiquitous “weight loss hottie” (blurg). I really want her to learn to accept herself as she is and have some kind of mental recovery, versus a physical.

  5. Your first Waiting on Wednesday! Monumental! For some reason, I find that cover really off-putting. Maybe it’s the shades of blue and purple – colors I love, but just too much. Or, maybe, it’s the fact that Fat Angie apparently eats toy tanks that I find upsetting.

Of course, how much does the cover have to do with the content? Ummm, not much, so…MAYBE?

  6. This is the first I’ve heard of Fat Angie. It seems very interesting, and I like the premise. Thanks for sharing 🙂

  7. I agree. It sounds amazing!

  8. It sounds like a very intense book!!
    An interesting pick.

  9. I’ve never heard of this one! It certainly looks good and I agree it seems like one of those books that will stick around long after you read it. Great pick and welcome to WoW!

  10. I just got this one in the mail today and I cannot wait to read it! I love the cover so much! It’s unique and really fits (at least to me) how complicated her feelings must be surrounding everything going on with her. I’m excited to read it! 🙂

  11. I have not heard of this one. But it sounds interesting. I usually don’t do contemporary but more and more I am reading about ones that sound really good.

  12. I feel like this could a pretty emotional read! Count me in. Thanks for sharing and happy reading!

This sounds intriguing. I just added it to my to read list. Thanks!

  14. Carrie Gordon says

i’ve read an advanced copy of FAT ANGIE, and it’s a stunning piece for the times. none of the white-washed, sanitized-for-teen-consumption business here. this is an absolutely real, gut-wrenching, heart-and-soul book that respects and honors the reader as much as it does its troubled protags. so much awesome here!

  15. Kurt Struyf says

I’ve read this book and it is hard and raw, funny and smart, sweet and loving.

It took me about 3-5 pages to find the voice, but then I finished it in one day. If you want to get a feel for the book, I saw they’ve put up a “book trailer”, similar to a “movie trailer”. Having read it, this nails it.

    hope you enjoy it
