Why Did I Listen To This Book?

I listened to Insurgent by Veronica Roth as a way to re-read the book in anticipation of Allegiant. Straight up, I will admit that I was holding off forever on reading Allegiant because I stumbled on the spoiler on Instagram or something back when the book first came out and so, while that doesn’t entirely ruin the story for me, I just felt no need to immediately get to it. And so, when my boyfriend began reading the Divergent series after I was like OMG JOSH YOU NEED TO READ THESE BOOKS, he got pretty much almost to Allegiant and that’s when my arrogant you cannot be first self reared its ugly head, and I decided to buckle down and listen to Insurgent and then Allegiant.

What’s The Story Here?

Okay, so as you remember, in Divergent, Tris finds out that she is indeed, what is called a Divergent, which means that she has aptitude for more than one faction and is not quite as susceptible to certain serums. Anyways, the gist of this sequel is that Tris is pretty much on the run with a few other Dauntless friends because the factions seem to have lost their marbles. Also, she’s on the search for answers, pretty much.

How Did I Like Insurgent This Time Around?

I actually did not love Insurgent quite as much as my first time actually reading the physical book. I don’t know, there’s just something that was different with it. Maybe because I did not have all this anticipation and excitement and I already knew what would happen with this book? Some of the shine has kind of worn off for me. That is not necessarily the worst thing in the world, just I do not think that this book really held up on re-read for me. Also, another issue I had pretty much is not the book’s fault but did affect my experience with the book and that is that iTunes was being a jackwagon and would not load this audiobook on my phone, so I had to listen to this audiobook using CDs that just would not rip and FYI I had some resentment feelings which are unfair to let color my view, but in the interest of transparency, that is something that definitely affected my reading.

How Is The Narration?

Veronica Roth’s second book in the series, Insurgent is narrated by Emma Galvin who also narrated Divergent. I’ve listened to tens of Galvin’s narrated books. And pretty much I say the same thing every time, all hail Galvin who is a master narrator. I love her inflections and voicing and infusion of emotion that she puts into narration. She’s the ideal narrator for a young adult audience. Her voice is young and fresh, and has a bit of a teenage attitude to go with it. It just works so completely. I could not imagine a better narrator for this series.
