Allison: Top Ten Books On My Fall TBR

Hey everyone, it’s Allison!

I should probably start this out but admitting that I completely failed on completing my summer TBR reading list. Out of the ten books I planned on reading, I only actually read two of them. That being said, I did do some reading this summer, only it wasn’t the books I had originally planned! Ah well. I guess this time around I’ll just have to prioritize better. Here’s what I have planned for my Fall TBR list:

1. The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart

Why?: A strong female main character that gets into plenty of trouble and mischief? Sounds absolutely delectable! I’ve wanted to read all about Frankie since I went to the E. Lockhart signing with April back in February 2011.

2. The Butterfly Clues by Kate Ellison

Why?:  Look at the cover! Plus, it’s a YA book that has a main character with OCD. The psychological background in me is tingling with excitement.

3. Never Sit Down in a Hoopskirt and Other Things I Learned in Southern Belle Hell by Crickett Rumley

Why?: This book sounds absolutely hilarious! It was recommended to me by April a while back and it would probably be a good idea to actually read it before she disowns me as a co-blogger … or a friend.

4. The Princess Bride by William Goldman

Why?: Because if April doesn’t disown me for not having read Never Sit Down in a Hoopskirt and Other Things I Learned in Southern Belle Hell, she surely will disown me for not having read The Princess Bride yet. Especially since I’m pretty sure that the copy that I have was the one that she let me borrow YEARS ago. Opps! Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to read it this fall (and then we will watch the movie together … again).

5. Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen

Why?: I’ve wanted to read Water For Elephants for such a long time, especially since I know that it gives a nod to my hometown. I’m super excited to read all about the star-crossed lovers and the circus atmosphere.

6. Darker Still by Leanna Renee Hieber

Why?: I’m in love with this cover — it’s so pretty! Also, I’m really intrigued by the prospect of a YA novel that has drawn from classic Gothic novels and that is told from a Victorian lens.

7. The Aviary by Kathleen O’Dell

Why:? Because according to April, The Aviary is ‘TOTALLY BITCHIN’, and when has she ever led me in the wrong direction?

8. Emma by Jane Austen

Why?: I really do need to read more classics thus I figured that if I put one on my Fall TBR, I would be more likely to read it. Especially if I prioritize and focus on my TBR list this time around!

9. Beautiful Lies by Jessica Warman

Why?: This book sounds like mystery roller coaster. I can’t wait to get strapped into my seat and go on the ride! Also, the cover is just gasp worthy as well. I love it!

10. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Why?: If anyone has talked me about a book that I’ve been looking forward to, they know that this one is it. I was a little disappointed that I didn’t get a copy of it at BEA but, I survived. Of course once I found a copy of it in a bookstore right after it was released, I snatched it right up. Yes, it’s true…I’m super pumped to read Throne of Glass.

So…there’s my list! Are any of these books on your TBR? Have you read any of them? Do you plan on reading any of them? Let me know in the comments and be sure to drop me a link to your Top 10 list!

  1. Great list. Frankie is a great heroine. She’ll rule the world someday 🙂 Emma has always been my least favourite of Jane Austen’s books. Perhaps because I studied it at school and couldn’t stand the heroine. 🙂

  2. Throne of Glass really is as fantastic as you’ve been told. I hope you love it as much as I did!

  3. Rocking the back list! NICE.

  4. Great list! I’ve heard great things about Never Sit Down in a Hoop Skirt!! (And the few books on this list that I’ve read, I’ve absolutely loved!)

  5. Fun list! Of these, I’ve only read Beautiful Lies (so good!) and Throne of Glass but I’m SO GLAD you reminded me I have The Butterfly Clues on my kindle because I had totally forgotten about that book until right now. So thank you!!

  6. It’s so fun to read everyone’s TBR lists–so many good books ahead. Love Emma 🙂 Enjoy your Fall reading. kaye—the road goes ever ever on

  7. #1, #4, and #8? Good life choices. The rest sound great too, but I whole-heartedly endorse those three. Sounds like you have some happy reading ahead! Thanks for sharing your list.

  8. I almost put Water For Elephants on my list too! Great list Allison!

  9. I surprisingly loved Water for Elephants. It’s kind of like the Notebook where it goes back and forth between and old guy and his past. I loved all the circus facts and stuff. Hope you enjoy all the books on your list! Here’s my Top Ten Tuesday

  10. The Butterfly Clues looks so amazing! Gotta check that out! And I loved Water for Elephants so I hope you do too! Great picks! 😀

  11. I need to experience Frankie too! Everyone always raves about that book. And I just read The Girl of Fire & Thorns on the honeymoon so I’m uber excited about Throne of Glass! Weee lots of great reading for us this Fall!

  12. The Princess Bride is an amazing book and film. And Emma is a great classics pick (as are all of Jane Austen’s books honestly). I’ve heard great things about The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks as well! I should really look into reading that. I also didn’t fare so well with my summer tbr list. Hopefully the fall is better for finding time to read books!

  13. Pretty much you need to read all the books I tell you to.

LOL do you really still have my copy of The Princess Bride? I have multiple copies but am attached to that one. SO anyways the next time I see it at a sale, I am going to snatch it up for you.

  14. I’ve been thinking about reading Emma lately too. I’m not sure when I’ll find the time to squeeze it in, but someday! I wonder if there’s a good audio recording of that one….

  15. I still need to read The Princess Bride. I got a signed ARC of Throne of Glass at ALA and I’m looking forward to diving in. I also want to read The Aviary because of April’s recommendation.

  16. I really like Emma and hope you do too! Plus after you finish, you can go watch the Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Beckinsale and Romola Garai versions as well as Clueless to see what was changed. I adore Austen adaptations!

You also definitely need to read The Princess Bride-so funny!

  17. I really need to read Frankie Landau-Banks too! And I hope you like The Princess Bride!!! I love that book/movie. They’re both amazing. And Water for Elephants! That was one that I didn’t expect to like so much and I really did!!

  18. Great books! I’ve heard awesome things about Throne of Glass, though I’m not sure how I feel about fantasy. And The Princess Bride! I really should read that one … I love the movie!

    Enjoy all your reads!

  19. I enjoyed Throne of Glass quite a lot. Beautiful Lies & The Butterfly Clues are pretty darn awesome too!

  20. I’ve been meaning to read so many of these for ages! I especially look forward to seeing what you think of Disreputable History, Butterfly Clues, and The Aviary :]
