In My Mailbox (73)

Y’all, this week’s In My Mailbox as hosted by the Story Siren is actually pretty sweet. I am not drowning in books, but am feeling rather pleasant about what I got for my birthday Thursday and various other goodies this week.

In My Mailbox 73

For Review:

Magisterium by Jeff Hirsch (Unsolicited) – I just listened to The Eleventh Plague a few weeks ago and thought it was okay. I am hoping to like Magisterium a bit more. The concept is super cool, basically there’s a rift, on one side there’s magic, the other science. Legit I am too excited about reading this world.

Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff (Amazon Vine) – OMG YOU GUYS! There is a Patrick Rothfuss cover blurb and a Japanese girl wielding a katana. Never have I been SO FUCKING EXCITED FOR A BOOK AHHHHHHH. Seriously. I am fucking psyched you guys. So psyched I am cursing, but whatever I am an adult I can curse if I want on the blog/webspace that I pay for.

Floors #2: 3 Below by Patrick Carman (Netgalley) – Friends, I am fit to burst when it comes to reading about Betty the duck again. Ahhh. Also, the Whippet. Seriously, if you are looking for fun middle grade books, READ FLOORS!

Pushing The Limits by Katie McGarry (Netgalley) – I have been told this is a sexy read, THUS I am so pumped up. I am reading to be sucked into steam and a bad side of the tracks relationship and deep issues AND ALL OF THE THINGS!

Three Times Lucky by Sheila Turnage audiobook (Unsolicited) – Ahhh! I love middle grade and I love audiobooks and I love Saturday afternoon surprises. I think when I finish current audio and library audios this will be my next listen! Yayy!

The Second Empress: A Novel of Napoleon’s Court by Michelle Moran (Amazon Vine) – Yo, Michelle Moran is like an expert at writing compelling historical fiction and so I am head over heels to read this book, especially after falling for Madame Tussaud.

Purchased:

The Black Prism by Brent Weeks (Kindle) – I really liked The Way Of Shadows and when I saw this was on sale, I figured, hey I need this on my kindle for when I finish the Night Angel trilogy someday.

Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols (Kindle) – I have been wanting to read this book for FOREVER but haven’t been super compelled to shell out for it, but then omg I saw it was on sale for $3.99 so I snapped it up. (FYI Forget You is on sale for $3.99 as well)

The Book Of A Thousand Days by Shannon Hale (Kindle) – Peeps, I am totally a Shannon Hale fan even though, lol embarrassingly I’ve only read The Goose Girl, but hey I super enjoyed that book and I think you can call yourself a fan if you really liked a book you read by an author. Also when I bought it, it was only $0.99.

Gifted:

From Shanyn at Chick Loves Lit:

Wine rack book ends, which FYI give me a great excuse to buy wine…. to fill the bookends of course. <3

  1. OMG–PUSHING THE LIMITS is definitely on my top 10 of the year! I just clicked, yanno? And STORMDANCER–I can’t wait to read this one. Katanas and griffins and kick-ass chicks, oh my!

  2. You’ve only read The Goose Girl?!?!?! Oh honey, you are going to LOVE Book of a Thousand Days! You should read the rest of the Books of Bayern too {Enna Burning, River Secrets and Forest Girl}. Oh and Austenland is soooo amazing!!!!! I’m a huge Shannon Hale fan, if you can’t tell.

  3. Read more Shannon Hale. Read more Goose Girl series. DO IT NOW, WOMAN!

Wine rack books ends.. awesome. My only problem with that is that I have discovered only one wine that I like and it has to be refrigerated. heh. Maybe I could store books in the fridge? It has shelves. That would work, yes?

  4. Hah! I did the same thing with Shannon Hale. I said I was a big fan of her after only reading The Goose Girl. Then I bought Book of a Thousand Days because it was on sale and loved it! And I just read my third book by her, Princess Academy, this week and loved it too!

  5. OMG SHANNON HALE. The Goose Girl is, as you probably know, AMAZING. The rest of that series is great also, but The Goose Girl is still my fave of them. And Princess Academy is LEGIT. I was stoked beyond belief when I snagged an ARC of the sequel at BEA. Book of a Thousand Days is one of hers that I haven’t read yet, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. It sounds FAB!
And SERIOUSLY?? I can’t even talk about Going Too Far. I know you loved Forget You, but to me, Going Too Far is my favorite Echols. THERE IS A HOT COP. A hot, TORTURED cop. I can’t wait to see what you think of it. 🙂

  6. Happy belated birthday! You’ll love Pushing the Limits – it is fantastic! 🙂

  7. YES TO STORMDANCER! So curious to see what you think of it. I heard the same about Pushing the Limits too so I’m excited to start it. Also this is the second time I’ve seen Going Too Far pop in someone’s mailbox, clearly a sign I need to read it.

  8. Happy Belated Birthday! I hope you enjoy all your fine books.

  9. I bought Going Too Far too!! I read it in a day and loved it! Hope you like it too!

  10. I have an ARC of Pushing The Limits sitting on my shelf. I’m hoping to read it this month! I hope you enjoy everything you got this week and here’s my IMM =)

Also YAY birthdays. Enjoy all your books 🙂

  18. I love Going Too Far. It was my favorite Jennifer Echols book until I read Such a Rush. Now they are both way up there 🙂 Also, I love Shannon Hale’s Goose Girl and all the others that followed! Can’t wait for the next Princess Academy!

  19. WINE BOOKENDS! Those are the shiznat. Except I would not be able to fill those until 21/18 whatever the drinking age is up here in the North. Stormdancer looks awesome and it’s all Japanese Steampunk so I’m like YES.

  34. Great haul and happy belated birthday! I always ask for B&N gift cards so I can get more books! Thanks for visiting 🙂

  35. I’ve heard great things about Book of A Thousand Days and really want to read that one myself! Also Going Too Far was just recommended to me as a first Echols read, so I think I may have to pick both of those up myself. I think I liked Eleventh Plague maybe a bit more than you (we’ll see how our reviews pan out), and am really excited for Magisterium which sounds awesome. I was lucky enough to get a copy at BEA. Also you’re reaction to Stormdancer? Pretty fucking appropriate. Also yay for wino bookends!

  36. Pushing The Limits was wonderful. I normally don’t do YA Contemps and it was brilliant. Awesome haul.

    Grace

  37. Thanks for sharing … that’s a pretty interesting list of books you’ve got. Although I hadn’t heard of them before, I think I’d like to get my hands on them as well 🙂

And also, I really, really loved Pushing the Limits. I’ve read a few people had issues with a coupla things, but I loved it for all the steaminess. Holy crap. Enjoy!!

  42. I’ve heard a little bit about Storm Dancer, it sounds like it’d be really good. I’m looking forward to seeing what you think about it. As far as the others, I haven’t really heard much about them other than Going to Far. They all sound pretty good though, and I hope you enjoy them all.

The bookends are pretty awesome to. 🙂
