I hope you are avoiding ladders, black cats, and driving safely. It is my sincere wish that you don’t go to any lakes with the word Crystal in the name accompanied by a guy named Jason, today. After all, dear friends, it’s Friday The 13th. Today is like Halloween without the candy and costumes. So, basically a lame version of Halloween with a whole lot of supersitition.
And how do we celebrate Friday the 13th at Good Books & Good Wine? BY DRINKING LOTS OF WINE. Erm, well, no, maybe, buuuuuuuuut in addition to the glorious wine, I thought I would recommend a few themed books in celebration.

Honestly, sometimes you have to watch out for your pets. Your black cat could be a harbinger of dooooooom and your bunny could be a child of the night just like in Bunnicula by Deborah and James Howe.
I don’t know if you by any chance happen to read the news, but typically there is always a disease article. We could be decimated at any time by microscopic viruses.

Stephen King was a prophet, I swear. As he knows a disease is going to get us sooner or later and describes how it all goes down in The Stand. Did I mention the disease is not even the worst part? Randall Flagg, he is one dude I do not EVER want to tango with.
Perhaps, though, you may want to kick it old school and get scared in style. What’s more terrifying than freezing your face off? OH RIGHT, KILLER SNOWMEN WHO HAPPEN TO BE YOUR BOYFRIEND!

For serious, R.L. Stine scared the everloving sin out of me back in the day, especially with this book, which does not get as much love as Goosebumps or Fear Street. If you have courage to stray off the beaten path although it may mean your demise, put on a blanket and curl up to The Snowman.

But I enjoyed The Stand because I didn't think it was scary. At least it doesn't leave me imagining things going bump at night. LOL.
I reviewed Bunnicula for my Throwback Thursday, and I didn't even realize the next day was Friday the 13th! Excellent. 🙂
Oh man, I read and did a book report on Bunnicula back in 5th grade! I really loved it back then. Thanks for reminding me of it.

I found The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson absolutely terrifying. Actually the old movie (not the new one) is pretty scary too.
Oooh, Point Horror. I loved those, and I always will. I don't think I remember The Snowman though… I should check it out.
