I haven’t really been into the blogging community in awhile so I am not entirely sure if everyone is still all ‘we don’t like new adult’ etc. In any case, the Boomerang books by Noelle August aka Veronica Rossi and Lorin Oberweger are a breath of fresh air in the genre. They aren’t dreary, depressing reads. Instead, I would say that these books are like the Jennifer Crusie books of new adult, which is sort of the highest compliment ever, coming from me. Rebound is the second in the series, following up with Ethan’s ex-girlfriend, Allison Quick and Boomerang’s owner, Adam Blackwood.

Rebound opens with Allison struggling into a skintight Catwoman costume. She’s about to go to a party hosted by Mia’s parents to scope out Adam and his company, Boomerang, which her father is about to invest in. While there at the party, Allison connects with this guy dressed as Zorro. Turns out, Zorro is Adam. This means that Allison’s evaluation of Boomerang is about to get kind of awkward. Of course, there’s sparks between the two and they both try to fight it — but if you’ve ever read a romance novel or seen a chick flick in your life — you know what’s going to happen.

Allison is the type of character with what seems like a cold exterior. You would think she was an ice queen if you didn’t get her first person point of view with Rebound. However, girl just has a lot going on. She’s witnessed some family drama which has caused her to kind of go nuts for a little bit and now that the nuts is out of her system, she’s reserved. Anyways, she’s fantastic to read about and the kind of character that I love because like ogres in Shrek, she has layers.

As for Adam, he is carrying a dark secret. One that you would have zero ideas about existing based upon just Boomerang, the previous book. However, this secret does make him a much more interesting character and gives him some motive as to why he is the way that he is. Also why he is such a workaholic.

Readers who are into romantic comedies and books that are light with maybe a touch of serious will enjoy Rebound. I will say that it isn’t quite as steamy as Boomerang, however, we do get to revisit some favorite characters. We get to learn more about some side characters. Also? This book is just really fun and there’s even a field trip involved! It’s a great distraction while stressed out kind of book. I recommend it for sure — especially to people looking to get their feet wet within the New Adult genre. This is an easy point of entry and one that I think will have you wanting to explore more.
