With his tight leather pants and a sharp edge that makes him dangerous, Jet Keller is every girl's rock and roll fantasy. But Ayden Cross is done walking on the wild side with bad boys. She doesn't want to give in to the heat she sees in Jet's dark, haunted eyes. She's afraid of getting burned from the sparks of their spontaneous combustion, even as his touch sets her on fire.Jet can't resist the Southern Belle with mile-long legs in cowboy boots who defies his every expectation. Yet the closer he feels to Ayden, the less he seems to know her. While he's tempted to get under her skin and undo her in every way, he knows firsthand what happens to two people with very different ideas about relationships. Will the blaze burn into an enduring love. . . or will it consume their dreams and turn them to ashes?Don't miss the latest bad boy in Jay Crownover's unforgettable New Adult series.

After reading Rule and loving EVERYTHING ABOUT IT, well, almost everything, I wanted to see if my enjoyment of Crownover’s book was a fluke or if I have found a new author for my favorites shelf. I proud to say that Jet, Crownover’s second Marked Men book erased all of my hesitations regarding her books. I mean, let’s be real, I was hesitant about this book because the love interest is described as wearing leather pants ha ha, and that cover just doesn’t do it for me. Then, I started reading Jet and I got totally sucked into Jay Crownover’s world of tattooed men with hearts of gold and the smart, kick ass women who love them. After Jet, I kind of went on a Marked Men bender and I am super sad that I have to wait for Rowdy, because I am ready for MORE.

So, there might be some spoilers for Rule in this review, but honestly if you couldn’t figure out that Rule and Shaw were going to get together based on the summary and the genre, what even are you doing here? Okay, so in Rule we meet Jet and Ayden only they are side characters in that book. Crownover lays the ground work in that book for their eventual pairing in this book. You see, Ayden is initially attracted to Jet because he’s different from the guys she usually dates. He’s hardcore and awesome and not like her sweater vest wearing boyfriend, named Adam, if I remember correctly. It’s been a few weeks, bender, remember. Anyways, Jet and Ayden’s relationship can’t really go anywheres because Jet won’t let it. You see, he’s moving in with Ayden and Cora and he doesn’t want it to be awkward. So, much of the book is Ayden and Cora making fun of Jet’s conquests and Ayden feeling jealous. Eventually though, the two hook up and that’s it, they find themselves drawn to each other and unable to stop. Unfortunately, Ayden’s past comes roaring in and it might get in the way of their happily ever after, well, you probably know that they’ll end up together, but yeah, her past does place a road block. What’s interesting about Jet though and compelling about the other Marked Men books is the various ways the couples grow and get past the road blocks. Let’s just say there’s some legit danger going on in this book.

I did spend a lot of Jet wondering just what Ayden’s mysterious secret was. I wanted to know why she was so secretive about her past. I mean, let’s be honest, I am kind of a blockhead so even if there were hints all over the place that doesn’t mean I am going to pick up on them or understand just what the author is getting at. So anyways, Ayden used to be a bad girl back in Kentucky where she grew up dirt poor. Her mother doesn’t really care about her. Her brother Asa is kind of a smooth talking con artist. And so, when Ayden goes to University of Denver she wants to leave the past behind. Friends, Ayden is awesome, that’s all you need to know. She rocks, even when sometimes her life choices are not the best.

Jet is the lead singer of a metal band called Enmity. Guys, he does the type of music that I don’t really care for so I had to do some mental reimagining and pretend he was a lead singer for a different sort of band, hahaha. I don’t know, I just ugh, I picture metal bands and what I picture isn’t pretty. Anyways. I really, really liked Jet as a hero. He’s much more even keeled than Rule Archer. He also does not have a happy upbringing, like Ayden. You see, Jet’s dad is a former roadie chasing after his glory days and he does not treat Jet’s mom very well. Yet, in the end, Jet perseveres over his family troubles. We see there’s more to him than trouble. We see that he’s really all about the music and frankly, that’s kind of irresistible. Y’all, it’s not hard to see why Ayden falls for Jet despite her best laid plans.

I loved reading Jet because it has a twisty-turny plot that had an ending I could totally predict. I was in need of a comfort read. I loved that the characters had deep flaws, but were ultimately good at heart. I loved the path that Jet and Ayden’s relationship took. Crownover’s really great at the slow build up of trust. In her books, you can expect drama, some of it over the top, but you can also expect carefully constructed, complex romantic relationships. I’m really an avid fan of this series and can’t wait to tell you more about the other books.

  1. I’m reading Rule right now and really enjoying it.:) 40% done with the book.
There wasn’t a lot of Jet there yet, but I’m waiting.
Really like Nash, though. And Rule……… I may have a little thing for him.:D Those tattoos.
Really like Crownover’s writing style. And hope to continue with this series.:)

P.S. But Beautiful Disaster is still my favorite NA book. It seemed more realistic (except all that Las Vegas thing). And it felt like I’m watching some ol’ favorite TV series.:)

  2. Omg I went on a bender as well in March, my reviews go up in time for Nash release. I’m so excited. I did love Jet but not as much as Rule or Rome. I felt so bad for Ayd when you realize exactly what she had to do to protect Asa, I’m not sure how Jay is going to pull him out of being a bad guy and make him a guy you want to have a happily ever after in his book. Yay I have someone else to talk to about the Marked Men series. Great review

  3. I’m a big fan of this author and this series! I’m really looking forward to Nash’s book. And I’m currently reading the first book in her new series – Better When He’s Bad…good so far!

Glad to see you like this series!

  4. Trolling your Marked Men reviews holla!
Jet–while I loved it like I love all the books in this series–wasn’t my favorite, but that’s not really saying much. There’s really nothing better sometimes than just picking up a book where you know what you’re getting, and what you’re getting is something you love to infinity, and Jet was definitely that. I just love reading about all of these characters!
I don’t dig the tight-pant-wearing thing, either, but I totally agree about the complex romantic relationships. Sure, there’s a little melodrama in these books, but that doesn’t make the feelings any less intense.
Can it be October now? I need Rowdy in my life.
