Tough to tame, but not too tough to love… Charlie Allington is supposed to be on the fast track to the top—a small-town girl who was making it big in her career. Instead, she's reeling from a scandal that's pretty much burned all her bridges. Now, out of options, she needs a place to lick her wounds and figure out her future. True, working at a ski resort in rugged Jackson Hole, Wyoming, isn't her dream job. But if there's one perk to coming back, it's a certain sexy hometown boy who knows how to make a girl feel welcome. Cowboy Walker Pearce never expected a grown-up Charlie to be temptation in tight jeans. She's smart and successful—way out of league for a man like him. But he's not about to let that, or his secrets, get in the way of their blazing-hot attraction. Yet when passion turns to something more, will the truth—about both of them—send her out of his life for good…or into his arms forever?

I started reading So Tough To Tame by Victoria Dahl because it was the night before BookTubeAThon and  I did not want to start any new books that would require heavy investment. I knew that I would be comfortable with reading So Tough To Tame as a background book and putting it on hold while I participated in BookTubeAThon. Fortunately, Dahl’s book is easy to pick up after setting it down. By this, I mean after a week of not reading it, I was able to slip back into the plot and understand what was going on just fine without needing a refresher. Frankly, this contemporary romance is just what the doctor ordered after days and days and days of stress. I really loved entering the world of Jackson Hole and forgetting myself as Charlie and Walker’s story played out.

Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Allington is back in the town of Jackson Hole, Wyoming after experiencing a bit of scandal in Tahoe. She’s been hired by one of her friends as head of security for a new resort. Charlie believes that she has to do an amazing job to build her reputation back up. She’s been offered an apartment at the resort, however, declines the apartment because her friend, Dawn, totally does not act like a friend. She’s actually really mean to Charlie. So, anyways, Charlie goes to the bar, and her friend happens to talk Rayleen, owner of the Stud Farm apartment complex, into letting Charlie rent one of the apartments. Only, Rayleen is under the impression that Charlie is a studly cowboy. Charlie is not and hilarity ensues. THEN! Charlie finds out that one of her neighbors is Walker Pearce, a boy who she used to tutor in school back when Charlie was a good girl. Sparks fly between the two and well, things begin to heat up. But, of course, there’s some issues between Charlie and Walker and some feelings of insecurity, but well, the course of true love never did run smooth and all that jazz. Is that even the saying? Regardless, the plot of So Tough To Tame is super easy to follow and dramatic and interesting and steamy, but not too dramatic.

Oh my goodness! I loved Walker and Charlie’s relationship. I mean, it’s that sort of relationship that’s tentative. Charlie thinks that she’s just another notch on Walker’s bedpost and so, she acts accordingly. She acts like it’s just a fling. To Walker, though, Charlie means a little bit more. There’s miscommunications galore. Also, mistrust. BUT there are also plenty of grown up scenes that are definitely rated R. I will also say that there’s a scene where Walker and Charlie go to a batting cage and it’s actually a good date. Like, Victoria Dahl makes going to the batting cages actually sound fun.

Overall, I thought that So Tough To Tame was simultaneously sweet and steamy. I liked this book for what it was – a nice distraction from a stressful time I am going through. I would recommend it to people who enjoy romances where things actually happen, people who are okay with sexytimes and also people who just need a happy book to get them through a tough time. Happy ending is guaranteed too!

  1. There’s nothing like a good romance novel to help you get through tough times. I know when I had a death in my family at the end of last year, I just binge read romance novels, because I needed to know there would be a HEA.

I’m glad you liked this. It seems like a lot of fun. I will have to check out Victoria Dahl. I hope things are going better for you now.

    • Things are going a little better, I am going to try and work on balance more this month.

Yes, that is the exact reason I read romance novels — is for the HEA. Sometimes you just need that.

  2. I really enjoyed So Tough To Tame too! I don’t read contemporary romances very often, but this one was pretty fun. Plus, I really enjoyed the romance between Charlie & Walker 🙂
