Stacking The Shelves (64) | Book Haul

Where oh where did this weekend go! Seriously I am like all the way through Sunday and totally not ready for the week to come. It has been a great weekend though — I went to a party, ate a lot of food and read some books. What are you reading this weekend?

For Review:

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick + water bottle (Unsolicited) – I received this at a lunch at BEA, so I passed the 2nd copy onto Alyssa at With The Banned. Excited for the water bottle though.

The Life And Times Of Benny Alvarez by Peter Johnson (Unsolicited) – This is a slim middle grade novel about a kid who is totally a negative Nancy, so I can’t wait to read it, of course.

Better When He’s Bad by Jay Crownover (Unsolicited) – Plans are to read this as soon as I am through my current Vine book, June TBR, and Ruin & Rising.

Broken Hearts, Fences And Other Things To Mend by Katie Finn (Unsolicited) – This looks like it’s going to be fun and dramatic summer reading. CANNOT WAIT.

Thorn Jack by Katherine Harbour (Unsolicited) – I am currently reading this one and it’s deliciously dark and gothic. It has such a fall feel. Add it to your Halloween TBR.

From Netgalley and Edelweiss:

The Cure For Dreaming by Cat Winters – I am over the moon excited to read this book. Love, love LOVED In The Shadow Of Blackbirds.
Lark Ascending by Meagan Spooner – Yayyyyyy, I was not expecting approval and then it happened and now I will finish this trilogy.
Killer Instinct by Jennifer Lynn Barnes – I really liked the first one, so I am curious where this sequel will take us.
The Vault Of Dreamers by Caragh O’Brien – I saw everyone get this and was like damn it for not requesting and well, Netgalley had it so here I am.
Marina by Carlos Ruiz Zafon – This sounds kind of literary. I’m down.
Illusive by Emily Lloyd-Jones – Christina at Reader Of Fictions mentioned it in a haul or something and I was like, hmmm, that does sound good.
Wildflower by Alecia Whitaker – I can’t resist contemporary, EVER.

Purchased:

Ruin & Rising by Leigh Bardugo – SO EXCITED I CANNOT RIGHT NOW.

As You Turn Away by Molli Moran- Molli is awesome on twitter, this is New Adult AND it was on sale, so of course I bought it.

Nantucket Blue by Leila Howland – IT WAS 99 CENTS!

Silent Night by Deanna Raybourn – Free is the magical word. Also, I love Deanna Raybourn’s work.

  1. I lovvvve your shirt! And I got THORN JACK this week too—I’m very excited to read it, so I’m curious to hear what you think of it! Fabulous haul this week, April. Happy reading!

  2. I am finishing The Three today… creepy good 🙂 Had to pop in and say hi when I seen you on Twitter! I miss chatting with you 🙂

  3. Can’t wait for Black Ice and I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying Thorn Jack. I got that one this week, too! Oh, and The Cure for Dreaming—In the Shadow of Blackbirds was fantastic!

  4. LOL actually, I LOVE when you talk about random shit. I love hearing you rant. ;0)

    Yay, Ruin and Risingggg!

Agree about useful swag. I would take that water bottle everywhere.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Broken Hearts. I actually DNFed it. I really liked the writing though, I just couldn’t deal with the predictable/cheesy storyline, but I am totes looking forward to her other books still!

Why would anyone ever reject you? I don’t think stats can get any higher than yours are? If you can get rejected, what about the rest of us? HAHA.

OH MANNN. I wanted a copy of Thorn Jack so bad. I had it on my BEA list but they only dropped it on the BookCon day and I couldn’t handle the crowd that day so I didn’t go. I am green with envy right now. I will add it to my amazon wishlist, stat. Thank you for reminding me. If you are not using your ARC, I will trade with you for something! Just let me know, haha. 😀

  5. I LOVED Rachel from Crash Into You. I identified with her on so many levels, especially the whole panic attacks. I never experiences anything as bad as she does, but I have had anxiety attacks before, especially while in high school. Especially test anxiety. I blew a regents once because I was so nervous. I took it again, and was able to really improve my score, but still. Anyway, you didn’t want to know all about that.

I love middle grade, too! And I think Amazon still has the pre-order a book, and select two day shipping to get the book on release day. I wonder what happened with your copy of Ruin and Rising.

  6. Hooray for more awesome books! (I too am VERY thrilled about the water bottle in the Black Ice package.) Particularly curious to hear about The Life and Times of Benny Alvarez when you’re done with it!

  7. You’re very sparkly today! 🙂 And I bought and devoured Ruin and Rising this week, too. I just couldn’t help myself. SO AWESOME. Holy cow, I wish I could write like her.

  8. OH! I actually just reviewed Illusive today – I seriously loved that book. I didn’t know there would be a sequel before starting the novel, so immediately after finishing it, I hunted down Emily on Twitter and grilled her lol. There will be one!

I also have Lark Ascending and The Vault of Dreamers! I’m not terribly excited about Lark Ascending (I’ve felt mehh about the first two books), but I’ve made it this far, so I am determined to finish the series 😀

I hope you enjoy all of your new books, April! Have a fabulous week! <3

    Check out my STS post!

  9. What a great video. My daughter has a curling iron burn on her leg (yeah, she’s weird like that) and the burn is really ugly.

I wasn’t a fan of Broken Hearts and that bummed me out because I was looking forward to reading that one a lot.

You’ve got a lot of great reading so I hope you enjoy them!

  10. Ouch curling iron burn! Hope it’s not hurting you too much 🙁

You are such a Jay Crownover book pusher I can’t believe any publisher would reject you! OMG!

Marina, Illusive and Wildflower look great to me. (I just now got rejected for Wildflower on Edelweiss hahaha)

    Have a great week, April!
