Stacking The Shelves (49)

I’m going through a bit of a package and book mail dry spell, but I am kind of really okay with that. Today I mailed out six books. In a week, I will mail out another 9 books and will hopefully cut down on just a little bit of book clutter. You see, I want to get to the point where I have gotten rid of enough that I can feel not so guilty by ordering a few more. I absolutely can’t order anything now because there’s no space for it. Alas, such is the life of a book hoarder. I’m currently reading The Geography Of You And Me by Jennifer E. Smith today, about 141 pages in so I am hoping to finish it before dinner time. What are you reading?

For Review:

STS 49-2 review copies

The Chance by Robyn Carr (Unsolicited Review Copy) – Unfortunately as a reader, I think Carr’s books are like oil to my water. I am just not a fan. This will be going into my donate bag. Here’s a summary though.

Silver by Chris Wooding (Unsolicited Review Copy) – This book sounds a lot like The Well’s End which I just read the other weekend and really enjoyed. I am looking forward to reading this one.

STS 49-1 review ARCs

Save The Date by Jen Doll (Accepted Review Copy) – I love the cover of this book. It’s an adult book, but one I think I can actually relate to given that so many people I know are getting married.

Mambo In Chinatown by Jean Kwok (Accepted Review Copy) – So excited for this! I really loved Girl In Translation, Kwok’s debut which actually would be a great crossover book if you are looking to try adult books and take a break from YA.

The Appetites Of Girls by Pamela Moses (Accepted Review Copy) – This sounds like literary new adult, in that it’s about four girls who are totally different and suitemates in college and ahhhh, I am so looking forward to it. Also, it’s from the Amy Einhorn imprint which I’ve had great luck with so far.

From Netgalley/Edelweiss:

Bleed Like Me by Christa Desir – I am so excited to read this because I LOVED Fault Line. Also? Christa is really insightful and her tweets usually are so thoughtful and interesting.
The Last Wild by Piers Torday – I absolutely love the cover of this middle grade book. It’s utterly gorgeous. This is a book about a world where animals don’t exist until one day a twelve year old boy is whisked away to see the last of the animals. Oh my goodness, I am SO EXCITED TO READ THIS.

  1. Lots of good ones this week, April! I’m crazy excited about THE LAST WILD too… THAT COVER! I got a copy from Amazon Vine, so I’ll probably be reading it next week to get my review in by the due date! I’m thinking I’ll start GRASSHOPPER JUNGLE today because I want to know what all the craziness is about.

I’m totally looking forward to your review of MAMBO IN CHINATOWN too… I got that at the store this week and almost brought it home, but decided against it. Still, it looks good!

    • Right? THAT COVER indeed, I actually ended up picking a copy from Vine because I don’t always love reading things on the Kindle. I think when I get my vine copy I’ll read it asap.

Grasshopper Jungle is SO NUTS, I hope you like it.

I am pumped beyond belief for Mambo, like, it’s going to be an adjustment, but I am excited.

  2. Save the Date looks like a fun read! I hope you enjoy all you got 🙂

    Here’s my STS!

  3. THE LAST WILD sounds very interesting! And yes, that cover is BEAUTIFUL. I’m reading KISS OF DECEPTION right now. Hope you enjoy GEOGRAPHY, April!

  4. The Appetites of Girls sounds awesome- I will be looking out for your review. Bleed Like Me looks so good too. Hope you’re liking the Geography of You and Me. I didn’t love Smiths’ last book but her book covers just call out to me. Enjoy your weekend!

    • I will try to get to The Appetites Of Girls soon, seems a few people are looking out for that review hah.

I am so excited to read Bleed Like Me, Desir’s books really hit the emotions, ya know?

I just finished Geography and I liked it better than This Is What Happy Looks Like, even though I liked that one too.

      Thank you 🙂

  5. Okay, so I am loling a bit at your seven book slow mail week, but I know what your usual hauls are like, so yeah. It must be nice, because, even getting less books, I am losing progress against my pile. So I cannot even imagine. I don’t actually know anything about any of these books, so I guess it is up to your reviews to make me want to read them or not. No pressure though, girl.

Wait, that was a lie. I DO know about Bleed Like Me, and I also have an e-copy, but I never mention them because they’re like little bonuses and often I do not read them, and I don’t want people to be all OMG why do you never read those. Though I will read Bleed Like Me, because I love when my feels are ruined by fiction. Speaking of, I need to go watch more LBD.

    BYEEEEEE

    • Hahaha, yes you have seen more normal hauls, so like for me, it’s slow to not have a package everyday but also kind of nice. I can see the pile go down, kind of. I think I am doing okay in the battle of the TBR pile, at least of the ARC tbr pile.

HAHAHA of course I feel the pressure. But that is okay, because the best thing is reading books no one else has reviewed because there’s like zero hype or preconceived notions which is awesome.

See, I like to read ecopies concurrently with other books, like I read the ebooks on my phone when I am in line at the store or transporting a client and then have to wait for them to go do something. Ahhhh, the feels, I like when they get ruined too!

  6. Awesome haul. A lot of what you got this week is new to me as I never heard of these books before. I hope you love your new books.

  7. Ooh! Save the Date and The Appetites of Girls sound FASCINATING. I can’t wait to see your thoughts on both titles, and will be considering adding them on to my TBR. I’m also pretty excited for The Chance, having loved The Hero!

    • Right? They look awesome and I can’t wait to dig into them especially when I feel that need for some variety.

Heh, I am not very excited about the Chance, but I’ll be passing it on to either our women’s shelter or our community literacy outreach program where someone else can be super excited about it! 🙂

  8. I love Robyn Carr – I’ve really taken a liking to adult contemporary romance lately!

    • See, she’s just not the author to me. I was texting Tony’s mom about her because apparently one of her books got delivered to Tony’s mom’s house and I was like, mehhhhh. And she’s like why? And I go, because I never feel invested or like there’s suspense. I don’t know. I’m weird I guess. For adult contemporary romance though, I kind of really love Kristan Higgins and Jennifer Crusie.

  9. Mamba in Chinatown sounds really interesting! I really like the cover too. And Save the Date too! Hope you enjoy your new books!

  10. I can’t tell you how many Robyn Carr books I’ve amassed but I can tell you that I’ve read exactly one. I liked it too there are just about a million other books that need read as well. Alas, another book hoarder problem.

    Enjoy your books!
