Holiday gifts don't always come in expected packages…especially in the town of Hope's Crossing. No one has ever felt sorry for Genevieve Beaumont. After all, she has everything money can buy. That is, until she discovers her fiancé has been two-timing her and she's left with two choices: marry the philanderer to please her controlling father or be disinherited and find a means to support herself. Genevieve's salvation appears in the most unlikely of prospects: Dylan Caine, a sexy, wounded war vet whose life is as messy as hers. Dylan's struggling to adjust after his time in Afghanistan, and the last thing he needs is a spoiled socialite learning about the real world for the first time. True, she may have unexpected depths and beauty to match. But he knows he could never be the man she needs…and she knows he could never be the man she thinks she wants. So why are they each hoping that a Christmas miracle willl prove them both wrong?

Why’d I Pick This Book to Read:

Back at the end of November, I was looking for a few books to read to for the Christmas season. So when I stumbled upon Christmas in Snowflake Canyon on Netgalley, I was quick to request it. It sounded like a good contemporary story with complicated characters and a bit of sweet romance that would be perfect to read during the holiday season.

Why Did I DNF:

I really wanted to enjoy this story but unfortunately I struggled with it from the very beginning. I did push through it hoping that it would get better for me but ultimately it just didn’t. I couldn’t connect with the characters. I wanted to because I usually love reading about “wounded” characters that slowly find their way in the world but there was just something about them that worked against me. Also, their romance wasn’t working for me. Again, I usually enjoy a will-they won’t-they back and forth romance if it is done right but for me, this romance didn’t do it. I just felt no chemistry between them, and I knew I wasn’t going to when their first kiss didn’t do anything for me either.

Is There Anyone This Book Would Appeal To:

I really wouldn’t necessarily push this book away because of my inability to connect with the characters. I’ve come across several other reviews where the reviewer actually really enjoyed the story. I think Christmas in Snowflake Canyon may appeal to someone who is looking for a contemporary romance to read during the winter or holiday season. Also, the setting descriptions written by RaeAnne Thayne are very well done but unfortunately that alone wasn’t enough to hold my attention.

  1. Aww, I’m sorry to hear that CHRISTMAS IN SNOWFLAKE CANYON didn’t quite resonate with you! I actually have that same experience sometimes, where it’s difficult to connect to the characters or their relationship in contemporary romances. It makes me sad when it happens, especially when I really want to like the book! Hopefully, you found another Christmas-y read to tide you over.

  2. I have this one on my ereader from NetGalley too – I wanted a Christmas book to read then, but never made it to it yet. Hmmm… I still might not even get to it. LOL

  3. I like when books do setting well, but I have to connect with the characters.

Also, that GIF. I will always, always stop and watch Monsters, Inc when it is on TV and also spend a lot of my time saying MIKE WADOWSKI at Tony in that voice from the movie. He just looks at me. You know, you’ve seen him give me the look. Actually, you have given me that look too.
