A world-defying love is put to the ultimate test in the New York Times and USA Today bestselling sequel to Veronica Rossi's "masterpiece," Under the Never Sky (Examiner.com ). In this second book in her spellbinding Under the Never Sky trilogy, bestselling author Veronica Rossi combines fantasy and dystopian elements to create a love story as perilous as it is unforgettable. It's been months since Aria last saw Perry. Months since Perry was named Blood Lord of the Tides, and Aria was charged with an impossible mission. Now, finally, they are about to be reunited. But their reunion is far from perfect. The Tides don't take kindly to Aria, a former Dweller. And with the worsening Aether storms threatening the tribe's precarious existence, Aria begins to fear that leaving Perry behind might be the only way to save them both.Threatened by false friends and powerful temptations, Aria and Perry wonder, Can their love survive through the ever night?

Obviously the theme of my 2014 reviews of 2013 books read is essentially WHY DIDN’T I READ THIS SEQUEL SOONER. You guys I just kind of sit on books that are good for an obnoxiously long time, I don’t know, I just seem to kind of parcel them out and read a lot of blah in between. Quite frankly, Through The Ever Night by Veronica Rossi brings the goddamn noise you guys and ugh, it is so darn good that I can’t help myself with the swears that will pop out during this review — because I swear when I get excited. AND TRUST ME YOU ALL I AM EXCITED ABOUT THROUGH THE EVER NIGHT. In fact, I was sooo all over the place with my emotions while reading that I had to text one of my blogging BFFs, Jamie, and tell her my reactions because I needed someone to understand those feels. If you are in the mood for emotions taking over, you are going to need to be all over this book my friend.

I can’t really talk about the plot of Through The Ever Night without spoiling Under The Never Sky. It is just not possible you guys. So step away if you are weird and read reviews of sequels to books you haven’t read yet. Perry is now Blood Lord of the Tides, his tribe of about 400 people give or take. He’s not in love with leadership, but he does what he has to in order to save his people. Aria is on the search for the Still Blue as part of a deal she has with Soren’s father. The two have been apart for months and oh you guys they are about to reunite and it’s about to get steamy and awesome up in here. Aria finally gets to meet the Tides and let me tell you, they don’t trust her. HOWEVER, we get way more Roar in this book and that is always a positive thing. Furthermore, Soren is not a total douche, I know. Anyways, the Aether storms are getting worse and food is getting more scarce — Perry is totally having a hard time. PLUS, his exgirlfriend Brooke is a total witch to Aria. PLUS Liv is going through with her plans to marry the dude who knows where the Still Blue is, instead of Roar. AND OMG THE EMOTIONS, I CANNOT WITH THIS SUMMARY YOU GUYS. There’s a lot happening in Through The Ever Night. I’ll be honest and say I was nervous to read it because of the whole second book syndrome thing — but it was SO GOOD OMG. There’s about to be a lot of capslock you guys, like even for me.

I kind of get the impression that a lot of you are like me and like your heroines to be all guns blazing. Straight up, Aria is like that in Through The Ever Night. She just seems more sure of herself in this book — I think that has to do with being out of Reverie for so long. Now that she’s living in the Outside, in the real world and not the realms, it’s like she has developed this sort of toughness. I am totally a fan of that. Aria totally stands her ground, even when it might be to her personal detriment for the greater good. BASICALLY I JUST LOVE HER IS ALL.

We all know that Aria isn’t the only main character, there’s also Perry who is holding down his own point of view chapters. Whereas Under The Never Sky was about Perry learning to control his temper – Through The Ever Night is about Perry learning to lead his tribe, the Tides. I’ll be honest with you all and tell you it is absolutely not an easy road for Perry as you probably gathered from my plot summary. Like, he wants to move the tribe and meets with resistance. He also finds resistance from them about Aria. Really, a lot of resistance all around. HOWEVER, he’s just so endearing and there’s just so much sympathy for him on my end you guys. I really liked that Rossi did not make his life easy once he became the leader.

One thing that Rossi straight up nails is the sexual tension. I mean, you guys, Perry and Aria can’t exactly be together the way they want to, they have to hide their relationship and feelings because the Tides don’t trust Aria. Yet, you can just feel these emotions between them whenever they are together, even in public. It’s awesome. And adorable. Also, there is way more kissing. AND HEARTBREAK, omg. I had to seriously text Jamie about about my heartbreak during the book and ugh, Roar, and I just can’t go on you guys. If you like multiple romantic storylines you will LOVE Through The Ever Night. For real you guys, it is great and I am still kind of sighing, also looking forward to book three. AHHH.

FINALLY! I need to say I was a tiny bit apprehensive when starting this series because I love dome type books and it’s very easy to screw up such an interesting world and environment. HOWEVER, Rossi does not mess it up and these books are actually really good. I have to say it’s interesting learning more and more about the Aether and the different abilities or enhanced scents that some characters have and just the WHY of it. With Through The Ever Night we get more of a background on the world Rossi has created, it just makes it so much richer, you know? I feel like the same thing will happen with Into The Still Blue — Rossi’s world will continue to feel richer and even more of my questions will be answered. Either way — if you are interested in sequels that do an incredibly excellent job building on their foundations YOU NEED THIS BOOK LIKE RIGHT NOW.

  1. Great review. I LOVE this series. Veronica Rossi has done such an amazing job with the directions the series went in and the growth of her characters. I hate it when a great series like this comes to an end.

  2. Totally agree! I really liked “Under the Never Sky”, but didn’t love it so I went into “Through the Ever Night” apprehensive due to second book syndrome. Ever Night is BETTER than Never Sky! FIlled in the background that I was iffy on in the first book. Continued to develope relationships naturally. LOVED this one and can’t wait for Still Blue!

  3. This series just keeps getting better and better, doesn’t it?! And what I really like about the series is how much of a personal journey we get to see, not only for Aria, but for Perry too. I felt like UTNS was more an exploration of Aria’s journey from Reverie into the real world and TTEN was more about Perry’s journey into leadership. I have a feeling that ITSB will be a wonderful merger of both their stories as they get closer to finding the Still Blue. And I totally get what you mean about the heartbreak thing. If you haven’t already read Liv & Roar, I stress MAJOUR caution, because having that back story will only make the events in TTEN all that much more painful!

  4. Incredible review! I loved this one too, I was SO blown away by the direction Rossi took this story in. It was fantastic, perfect for the arc of the series, and just strengthened the relationship between Perry and Aria. Plus, it was so refreshing to see a platonic friendship between Roar and Aria, especially as I love Roar so much and I adore that he and Aria can be friends, just as Roar and Perry can. I cannot WAIT for the sequel now! 😀
