Allison: I Am Thankful For…

I Am Thankful For…

My family
I honestly don’t know what I would do without them in my life. They’re super supportive and although they sometimes will drive me crazy, I can’t imagine them not being in my life. I made the mistake of not speaking to some of them for a while a few years ago but after losing my dad I decided I didn’t want to risk doing that anymore. They may drive me crazy but they will always have my back.

My friends
When my family fails me, I know I can always turn to my friends. I have some of the most amazing, supportive, hilarious friends, and I would be lost without them. From playing card games, to the occasional drink, or simply just hanging out and making memories, I am very blessed that the people that I call my best friends are part of my life.

My health
For the most part this year, I have been pretty healthy, and I know how lucky I am to say that. I do have health problems that I know that I have to keep an eye on, and try to put myself at risk. Luckily, as I’ve gotten older I’ve gotten smarter when it comes to protecting myself, and this year it has really paid off.

My job
Yes, my job can drive me insane but, working there has helped me figure out what it is I want to do with my life. I have learned so much more about the past from hearing stories from people that actually lived in it. Working there has helped me create some of the most beautiful bonds I will ever have in my life.

My education
Yes, I’m in debt with student loans (and will soon be even more in debt with student loans) but I’m so thankful for my education. It has helped expand my horizons, and I feel like such a better person because of it. I also know that it it’s something that I really should never take for granted because there are some people who will never get the same opportunities. Also, my education helped me become a better and stronger reader which I will be eternally grateful for.

Books
I’m always thankful for books because they provide me with an escape from life. I’m so grateful that there are authors out there who are still so willing to put their work out there. I’m especially thankful for authors that push the boundaries and are able to open eyes and hearts with their words.

Music
I truly believe in the saying that when words fail music speaks. I would be lost without music. It calms me, sooths me, and helps bring me back into a more positive or relaxed zone in my life. Also, I love to have random dance breaks to release stress, and you can’t really do that without music.

Coffee
Sweet nectar of the gods, what would I do without you? I never really was a coffee drinker until college but now I can’t imagine my life without it. I know it’s kind of a sad thing to be thankful for but, it helps motivate me, and keeps me awake and aware. Especially in the cold winter months.

Good Books and Good Wine
I’m thankful for the journey that this blog has helped take me on. Getting to participate as co-blogger has been so much fun. I’ve been able to meet so many awesome people, reflect on so many bookish moments, and go to places I never would have dreamed of going before. Definitely looking forward to many more good times in the future as well!

2013
This year has had its up and downs but I’m still very grateful for it. It’s hard to believe that it’s almost over. It really feels like it has just flown right by. But it was another year where I was able to learn more about myself, experience new things, and grow as a person. And I will always be thankful for things like that.

What are you thankful for this year?

  1. Lovely list. We share many of the same things. 🙂

  2. Coffee is definitely a big one. And you’re right about education. Much as I complain about how I’ll be in debt until I die, I can’t imagine where I’d be without it.

  3. Such a great list! Family, friends, books, music, coffee! And “But it was another year where I was able to learn more about myself, experience new things, and grow as a person. And I will always be thankful for things like that.” is such a lovely way to look at a year! It has really flown by!

  4. You’ve got such a great list of things to be thankful for, from the relationships you’ve got, life experience you’ve gained and the other fun things (like coffee, which is a necessity for me too) on it. Happy Thanksgiving! Here’s to hoping we get to meet up and really hang out again if you’ll be at BEA 2014 🙂

  5. This is a really awesome list – and I’m seriously thankful for just about all those things too. My family first and foremost is so supportive – and sometimes I take it for granted, but not everyone is so blessed, so I’m trying to show appreciation to them more often.

  6. That’s a terrific list. Thank you for including the clip of Snoopy and Woodstock. Brought back fond memories. Made my day. Happy Thanksgiving!

  7. We are thankful for a lot of the same things! Coffee did not make my list, as I just recently started drinking it, but I have a feeling that if this addiction keeps up, it will be on my list next year 😉
