My Weird School | Dan Gutman | Mini Reviews

Hey y’all, so these two books totally took me like half an hour to read and I have this lazy policy where I refuse to spend more time writing a review than I did reading the book, thus I will be doing mini reviews for the two books from the My Weird School series by Dan Gutman that I read, and of course, I am posting this today because one of those books is Halloween themed. Yay!

My Weird School Collage

It’s Halloween, I’m Turning Green! by Dan Gutman was my first encounter with the “My Weird School” series. Y’all, these books are not aimed at 26 year old young women. I am okay with that. Okay, so this one is about how Arlo, the main character, and his friends go Trick Or Treating and come across this monster that is stealing everyone’s candy. Also, they go to their teacher’s house and she has this magical machine that makes things massive. It’s a fun story and okay, definitely not in my wheelhouse. However, if you are an actual small child or have one of them, chances are you’ll find this hilarious and fun and perfect for the season.

Dr. Nicholas Is Ridiculous by Dan Gutman is another book in the “My Weird School” series, obviously. The main character Arlo is back in this one. His school has just been tasked with taking this huge test on American history and you guys it kills a tiny bit of my soul to see Arlo fail and give all these wrong terrible answers. So anyways, it is decided that the school is in major need of help and so a professor named Dr. Nicholas comes in to save the day and she teaches the students some unorthodox history. Oh and there is a time machine. Again, this is cute but it’s really not for me. If you’ve got kids who are starting to read chapter books, hand them this. It’s funny on a kid’s level, I suppose.

Oh and there are pictures by Jim Paillot and they work perfectly for these books.

Whew, that definitely did not take as much time as reading. YAY!

I just love Dan Gutman books, and he seems like SUCH a nice guy 🙂

  2. Okay, so I haven’t read any of the My Weird School books, but they are ridiculously popular at the library. They really seem to be best for kids who are starting for sad chapter books on their own. I think the kids find they quite funny. I do admit to getting a kick out of the rhyming titles.
