15 Day Book Blogger Challenge | Day 2

Today’s prompt is about your bed time routine, which is kind of perfect for my typing this up as right now it is almost 8 p.m. and I am about to do my own routine as soon as I get done typing and scheduling this post. If you are curious what this is all about, check out the intro to the 15 Day Book Blogging Challenge. No pressure, you can join at any time, heck you can even write and do your posts six months later, that’s totally fine.

15 Day Book Blogger Challenge | Good Books And Good Wine

I am one of those people who usually tries to delay going to bed, just like a little kid. For a long time, I used to marathon TV shows or spend hours on the computer until bed. I’ve definitely change  my whole routine though.

First, I do all of my get ready for bed things. I change into my pajamas. I brush my teeth. I take off all of my make up.

Next, I select a book. Most of the time it’s a physical book that I was previously reading. However, if I am reading a particularly good ebook that is SUPER gripping, then I will take my Kindle to bed. Yet, this routine changes when I have a romance book for review. Typically I read those strictly before bed because they calm me down and I know they will be non-threatening reads with a guaranteed happily ever after. Honestly, I cannot take tragedy before catching some ZZZZs.

Finally, after picking the book I pile all the pillows together, set my alarm for the next day and quietly read until Tony insists we get some sleep.

What’s your bedtime reading routine? I’d love to hear it!

  1. I used to be much better about reading before bed, but I think we’ve swapped – you’ve given up the tv show marathons, and I seem to be stuck in an endless loop of them. Trying to reform myself, though! =D

    • I’m with Misty on this one, I definitely have been watching more TV before bed than reading. Although I switched to reading last night because the previous night I had a nightmare – probably something to do with watching Supernatural marathons.. what a creepy show!

  2. I get the whole “no tragedy before bed” it’s like setting your self up! Like saying good bye sweet dreams mamma is up for sad dreams tonight.

  3. I’m usually the opposite when it comes to going to bed! I rarely read on the couch, as I usually do blogging things when I’m home from work. so, going to bed means shutting down the computer and read!

  4. Like you I am exactly one of those people who delays going to bed. I hate the idea of losing all those hours asleep. So it’s kind of the perfect time to get a decent amount of reading done.

The random “they” always say that reading before bed isn’t always a good thing as it can make your mind overactive. But, also like you, I think it calms me. Maybe if I was reading horror and I was alone in a creaky old house it might make me tense. But reading totally relaxes me.

My Dude doesn’t bother telling me I need some sleep anymore. He gives me a look when he sees that I’m still up at six, but keeps quiet about it.

  5. Reading before going to sleep also calms my mind, I usually can’t sleep if I haven’t been reading right before, it takes my mind of all the things I should be stressing about.
As long as I read on my Sony, the boyfriend doesn’t really have a problem with it as I can just turn off the big light and read with the little lamp attached to the cover 🙂

  6. I really do wish I had a routine, but I don’t. I just read, either on the couch or in bed. Sone nights I am up late on the couch – sometimes reading, tweeting, blogging – sometimes not. Sometimes I pass out on the couch only to have to get up later, get ready for bed and pass out in bed. Sometimes I get ready for bed early, then read. There is just no routine with me, in any matter in life… But, all this was shared in my post.

I do love reading about people’s routines, though. Maybe I should try harder. 😉

  7. I haven’t heard of this challenge or meme, but it sounds fun!

For my bedtime routine, I’m a little the opposite of you – I prefer to read on my Kindle just before bedtime if possible, and I prefer if it isn’t a review book because I like to wind down and not have to remember details or take notes or any of that. I like to use that time to read more of my indulgent reads or romances or just fun stuff. And I don’t mind if I fall asleep while reading, so I definitely don’t want to do that while reading a review book, ya know?

  8. I hubby is one of those who blames by insomnia on reading. I think that’s just an excuse for non-readers, he always manages to fall asleep when he reads! More often than not I watch TV before going to bed and to the reading before then.

  9. I don’t know that I really have a bedtime reading routine-sometimes I read, sometimes I’m just tired and want to fall asleep. I will have to think more on this!

  10. Omg I love sleeping way too much to put it off these days 😉 I do love the excuse to read before bed because I can’t look at screens anymore (but I can’t work, I need to calm my mind :D), but I definitely fall asleep quickly most nights, hehe.

  11. I still never learn though…I always read a zombie novel before bed and then wake up at 3am in the morning and peak out onto my lawn just waiting to see my neighbor shambling across the lawn…

  12. We have a very similar routine! I like how you stick to one genre because you know it will wind you down. I’m kinda bad at that. I can read a mystery and totally get myself hyped up before trying to sleep which doesn’t help my sleeping problems, haha!

  13. I alwayyys delay going to bed! I’m such a night person!

  14. I don’t really have a ritual, but I tend to read on my couch, after my youngest children have gone to bed. And it has happened that I haven’t exactly gotten to bed when it’s time to start a new day again 🙂

  15. I am totally a delay bedtime kind of girl. I always say “one more chapter” and then read like 5 more. My routine actually depends on my husband because I can read in the living room up until bedtime or I can read in bed after I get ready. Great and fun topic today! 🙂

  16. One thing I’ve NEVER done is procrastinate going to bed. I’d live there if I could!

  17. i don’t have cable anymore so i watch way less tv than i used to. it has definitely upped my reading time and i get so much more reading done than i used to.

  18. No tragedy before bed is probably a good idea… although I tend to enjoy it. If a book is too light for me, I wander off. I find it harder to read before bed during the school year because by that time I’m exhausted and then my mom yells at me to go to sleep because I have school the next day. 😛

  19. That’s awesome that you read in bed. I used to when I was in HS, but I can’t now. I get tired and as much as I love reading, I love sleep a little bit more.

  20. I really like the simplicity of your bedtime routine! Mine is almost exactly the same, actually. I get ready for bed first, which includes brushing my teeth, washing my face, grabbing a glass of water and picking out two or three books (unless I’m reading on my iPad). I will then get into bed, read my current read and either finish it and start a new one, or go to sleep somewhere in the middle of it. It’s the perfect way to end the day!

  21. Romance before bed sounds nice. I’m all about my audiobooks when I’m getting ready, which is pretty much the best, though might not work as well with another person there. :-p
