Top 10 Beach Reads

YOU GUYS! It has been months and months and months since I have participated in a TTT and I MISS IT like whoa. Stupid busy life and my poor time management skills. Anyways, this week’s topic is top ten beach reads, however I am doing my own little twist. You see, I hate the beach. My biggest phobia is fish. I hate getting wet. SO, the list of books I came up with are books that I would imagine people would enjoy reading at the beach, but for me specifically they were the sorts of books I would read when I would hang out at Tony’s soccer practices (he used to coach one of the youth league teams). They are books that are light and just plain fun.

Top Ten Beach Reads

1. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Why? I actually did read this at one of Tony’s soccer practices and even though it was hot outside and I was probably catching a sun burn, I totally found myself absorbed by Percy Jackson’s introduction and Camp Half Blood. Also, this book is hilarious. RECOMMENDED Y’ALL.

2. Lock And Key by Sarah Dessen

Lock And Key by Sarah Dessen | Good Books And Good Wine

Why? Okay, so this one is not quite AS light as the other books on the list but it is one that I actually did read at soccer practice and one where it was not at all a challenge for me to fall into the world.

3. Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie

Bet Me, Jennifer Cruise, Trade paperback, book cover

Why?: Because who does not like funny, swoonworthy romance while getting some sun?

4. Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris

Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris | Good Books And Good Wine

Why?: I can’t even pretend that I did not immediately whip through these books in like a week when I bought the box set but for real, it’s pretty fantastic reading when you have a drink in hand and are trying to decide who is more of a stone cold fox — Eric Northman or Bill whatshisname. Soooooo good.

5. The Naughty List by Suzanne Young

The Naughty List, Suzanne Young, Book Cover, Pink

Why?: Ninja cheerleaders, yo. As a former cheerleader I am down. ALSO. I am kind of sad this series never really got the love it deserved when it was originally released. These books are hilarious and fun and THERE IS SWOONING and action and laughs. I recommend it if you’ve read Young’s other books.

6. When It Happens by Susane Colasanti

When It Happens by Susane Colasanti | Good Books And Good Wine

Why?: Good girl and slacker boy get together and oooooo SPARKS! Heck yes! I loved this book when I stole it from my sister during a college break. Like, if you want a nice light romance READ THIS BOOK.

7. Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles

Perfect Chemistry Simone Elkeles Book Cover

Why?: Good girl and bad boy get together — I am sensing a bit of a theme here. ALAS, this book is hot hot hot. I gobbled it up as I do. And I think you will too if you shove it in your beach bag.

8. The Hero’s Guide To Saving Your Kingdom by Christopher Healy

The Hero's Guide To Saving Your Kingdom Christopher Healy Book Cover

Why?: Because sometimes we all just want a read that is light and fun with no romance but a rag tag group of princes. Or maybe that’s just me?

9. Swim The Fly by Don Calame

Swim The Fly Don Calame Book Cover

Why?: So there is swimming in this book, obviously. And it’s REALLY funny. And one of those books where I would just snap pictures of the hilarious sections. I mean, for real, if you aren’t stuffy and boring you will probably enjoy this book.

10. Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway

Audrey, Wait! Book Cover Robin Benway

Why?: Yo, as you can see with this list if I have to be outside, I want to read books that either make me laugh or make me swoon. Audrey Wait does BOTH. Plus there’s a cat who is the shit.

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the Broke and the Bookish.

Comments

  1. Sara Dessen’s books are a favorite today. I think any of her books would be a great beach read.

  2. When It Happens was my first (and favorite) Colasanti book. It’s definitely worth a read when you need a quick light romance. Audrey Wait! is just freaking fantastic & should be read ANY TIME. Whenever I see you mention Bet Me, I think.. ohh this is the book April keeps recommending! But for some reason I haven’t read it yet. Why?! lol I should add it to my summer reading list.

  3. Bet Me is a great choice. Such a fun read. Great list.

  4. Yay! I’m not the only one who added Dead Until Dark on my list! And my vote is for Alcide (followed by Eric). I’ve never read Percy Jackson but I think it’s because I was so appalled by the movie version that it put me off the entire series. I know! I know! I shouldn’t judge a book solely but it’s movie. One of these days I’ll give it a go, I swear (b/c I’ve heard great things)!

  5. YAY for a new participation of the TTT April!

I love Dead Until Dark, and Perfect Chemistry as well. Haven’t read the other books on your list, but maybe I’ll add some of them to my bag for the beach this summer 🙂

Here’s my TTT post for this week.

    Happy reading 🙂

  6. A definite yes to THE LIGHTNING THIEF! And you can never go wrong with a Dessen novel 🙂

    Great choices!

  7. Oh thank God, I’m not the only one who hates the beach! 🙂 Great list – your comments had me laughing. I really should put The Lightening Thief on my TBR list – I hear good things about it.

  8. I read Percy Jackson at the beach every summer. Such great books 😀 You get SO absorbed in his world that I burn every time too haha. I remember reading late at night in my family’s tent trailer, a flash light in one hand and The Battle of the Labyrinth in the other. Great list!!

  9. PERCY JACKSON. Obviously.

But really Sookie is totally unputdownable if a total guilty pleasure.

    Solid picks, yo.

  10. Okay, is it crazy that I’m ridiculously excited about the fact that you hate the beach because I don’t like the beach either. I do NOT understand why people like to sit on the beach. It’s uncomfortable, there’s people everywhere, and the sun beating down on them – ugh, it just doesn’t sound like a good time to me.

Also, I seriously need to read Audrey, Wait! I don’t know why I haven’t.
