Stacking The Shelves (33)

Man, I am way too in love with the weekend. It’s been a jam packed week – one involving looking at apartments and coming across a dream apartment only to see that it is a glorified studio in real life, and one involving lots and lots of work. Also, very little reading which makes me feel a bit off kilter. SO you guys when you are experiencing crazy busy weeks what are some good, light reads? I am craving contemporary between my heavier reads. Right now I am reading: In Darkness by Nick Lake, Yellowcake by Margo Lanagan, Dance Of The Read Death by Bethany Griffin and listening to The School For Good And Evil by Soman Chainani — all great books but the only light one is the audiobook, so I definitely need a breezy contemp or something.

For Review:

Altered by Gennifer Albin (Requested Review Copy) – I have Crewel on hand but packed and I am one of those people where if I start a series, I typically want to finish that series. Also this came with a neat rubber band bracelet.
Wait For You by J. Lynn (Unsolicited Review Copy) – This is my second copy, I think. I might also have it on my kindle. Either way, yayyyy new adult and big print and steamy times. I might make this my during the week read because it seems sort of light.
The Newcomer by Robyn Carr (Unsolicited Review Copy) – I get a lot of unsolicited books by this author and I am torn on whether to give her a chance or not. Alas.
The Bitter Kingdom by Rae Carson (Unsolicited Review Copy) – I LOVE THIS BOOK and seriously need to do a giveaway for it. And write my review. UGH I AM IN A PIT OF LAZY.
We’re Here We’re Queer We’re Mad Libs (Unsolicited Review Copy) – Looking forward to playing this!

Gifted:

Doll Bones by Holly Black audiobook from Heidi at YA Bibliophile – Words can’t express how excited I am!

  1. Um, please tell me why this is the first time I’ve watched one of your vlogs? You are hilarious.

I can’t believe you’ve received four copies of The Bitter Kingdom. That is just crazy! Maybe it’s because you’re quoted. (That’s pretty exciting.) And I’ve heard the best things about Wait For You. It’s JLA, after all, and when can she do anything wrong?

P.S. “HEY APRIL, GET OFF YOUR ASS AND DO SOMETHING!” Or not. Because let’s face it: that requires effort.

    • Hahaha, thank you Sophia!

Yeah, sometimes Harper sends a lot of multiple copies which is weird but I guess it makes a good point to just hurry up and read the books.

I’ve never actually read a JLA book! OMG I KNOW!

      Hahahahahaha. Thanks for the reminder.

  2. I have you to thank for getting me to finally open my copy of The Girl of Fire and Thorns (and maybe you to thank for prompting me to get a copy in the first place!), that was such a good book – oh I should have brought book 2 on my holiday but I forgot! Was in a mad rush…

I haven’t read Crewel – and I don’t even have a copy! Can you read it soon and tell me what you think? *prod prod*

I’ve heard great things about Doll Bones – haven’t read anything by Holly Black yet or own any of her books, so I’m keen to hear another opinion on this one.

    • Aww, that is one of the best compliments ever — I love getting people to read books that are awesome and then that person actually LIKING THE BOOK and not resenting me because they did not like it.

Hahaha, okay I promise I will read it ASAP.

I like what I’ve read by Holly Black so I imagine I will enjoy Doll Bones.

  3. Aww, your poor voice!
    “We’re here, we’re queer, we’re mad libs” – ahahahaha!
Good luck with the apartment hunting and new job!!

    • I know, it’s so broken, wahhhh.

LOL I definitely laughed as I opened the mad libs package.

Thank you so much! The job is going great, the apartment hunting — not so much.

  4. I know. I got sick as well during BEA, so I wasn’t able to go on Saturday. Being sick sucks. Yet you got a lot of books. Harper sometimes send multiple review copies. Great haul.

    • Being sick is the worst for sure. Yeah, I did get a good amount of books — none of these are from my BEA haul though. I am not sure if I will post one of those.

Haha, I love Harper to pieces but you are right about the multiple copies.

  5. I’m sick, too! Although I have some kind of stomach thing, and yesterday I couldn’t move without feeling sick. It was awful. Thank goodness I am feel better.

I really liked Wait for You. I read it when it first came out as a self-published book. I’m a total JLA fangirl.

As for lighter, contemporary reads, I always recommend Meg Cabot. She’s one of my favorite authors. I love Teen Idol, All-American Girl, Queen of Babble, Every Boy’s Got One.

Good luck on the apartment hunting and moving. That is always so stressful.

    • Oh no, I hate being sick on the weekend it’s such a pain because that’s the time of the week to get things done.

I am so glad Wait For You is good. I think I may end up reading it this week.

I’ve read a lot of Meg Cabot books and do agree she is awesome, only my issue is that I have packed away the ones I own but haven’t read yet.

Who knows maybe I will come across a nice apartment magically.

  6. So many pretty books this week! I hope you enjoy everything you got this week 🙂

    My IMM

  7. I hope you enjoy DANCE OF THE RED DEATH – I neeeed that.

The cover for WAIT FOR YOU makes me lol because it has the author’s name AND pen name. So weird.

    Enjoy your awesome haul, April!

    • I liked Dance Of The Red Death, but I thought it was not as good as Masque.

I guess I haven’t looked that hard at the cover because I totally did not know that until just now. How bizarre, why not just have one name.

      Thanks, lady! <3

  8. YOU are too sweet! Enjoy all your books and good luck moving! It’s a lot of work but I always like getting settled and organized in a new place 🙂

  9. It was nice to meet you in person at BEA! Next time, I hope you’re less sick and can enjoy everything much, much more 🙂

ALTERED! I’m pretty interested in seeing what happens next in the Crewel world, as the first book had that crazy ending.

THE BITTER KINGDOM! Not going to lie – I only read The Girl with Fire and Thorns, but I LOVED THAT. I need to read Crown of Embers and then this one!

    • Yes, it was super nice to meet! <3

I really need to read Crewel, but alas it is currently packed.

OMG yes hurry your life up and read CROWN OF EMBERS. It's so great!
