Stacking The Shelves (29)

I love how last week I was SO excited that my busy week was over, but then this week proved very busy as well — I won’t go into details but will just say that I managed to have a ton of presentations. Regardless, I am optimistic about this upcoming week — I have an out of office trip – about an hour both ways, so YAY reading time. And of course, a few more presentations. I’ve not been doing TOO awesome with my goodreads challenge, currently I am 3 books behind. However, I’m about to finish my audiobook (The Silver Linings Playbook  by Matthew Quick), so that should help a tiny bit. I am not entirely loving my Kindle/egalley read - Gameboard Of The Gods by Richelle Mead. I can’t seem to find a rhythm with that one or really be into it. OH! And I started my first book from my TO READ BEFORE BEA LIST!  YAY! And for this curious about my book haul, here ya go:

For Review:

From Ashes by Molly McAdams (Unsolicited) – LOL.
Robert The Bruce by Jack Whyte (Unsolicited) – This is almost 600 pages, adult, and second in a series. It might find a better home with someone else.

From Edelweiss and Netgalley:

When You Were Here by Daisy Whitney – AHHHHH, I am so so so excited for this. A few of my contemporary loving peeps have read this one and loved it.
Boy Nobody by Allen Zadoff – I just really love Zadoff’s YA work and will gobble up anything he writes.
Boxers and Saints by Gene Luen Yang – I absolutely love American Born Chinese so, when I saw Yang had 2 companion graphic novels up on Netgalley, I immediately grabbed them because I know that I will hopefully enjoy them.

Purchased:

What My Mother Doesn’t Know by Sonya Sones (Kindle) – This was a Kindle Daily Deal and I honestly can’t resist YA contemporary verse books ever. Or sales.
Crown Duel by Sherwood Smith (Kindle) – This has been on my wish list forever, and so now that it is down to $1.99, I had to have it. Also? I just love some epic fantasy.
The Shattered Mountain by Rae Carson (Kindle) – I know people like to talk shit about novellas, but honestly, as someone who is a super fan of Carson, I am going to fucking buy anything she writes and that includes novellas. And you know, if novellas help authors make the money they need so they can focus on writing books and not getting a second job, bully for them.
Interworld by Neil Gaiman and Michael Reeves (Kindle) – This is currently on sale for $1.99. I thought I’d buy it because I’ve gotten the sequel twice in the mail and honestly, I’d like to read both.
Variant by Robison Wells (Kindle) – This is on sale for $1.99. I have an ARC and haven’t read it yet, so when I saw the sale price I was like, oh snap I can toss the ARC into my donate pile. I also am very interested in reading this book, but also interested in reclaiming more house space.

To Give Out:

Middle School: The Worst Years Of My Life by James Patterson – This is the book I am giving for World Book Night. I cannot wait! Seriously, cannot wait. Alas, my box is in my care still and Tony has driven it to work today in order to get my oil change done. So, no picture just yet.

In case you skipped it or missed it, here’s a recap of what we’ve posted this week:

  1. It’s always a bit difficult/awkward when you receive a book you know you won’t like or won’t read, but giving it away is the best option, because there is sure to be someone else out there who will like it!

I hope Daisy Whitney’s new book is good!

  2. Oooh sounds like a good week! I ended up getting Bossypants to give out for World Book Night and I can’t wait! I hope you enjoy all you got 🙂

    Here’s my STS!

  3. “From Ashes by Molly McAdams (Unsolicited) – LOL.” Hahaha! I about died when I saw this; I remember your review. LOL indeed. 😉

  4. Nope. Your vlogs never bore me. Just so you know. I watched last week’s all the way through. You’re awesome. I would watch it if it was 12 minutes long. 😀

I know you ranted about Taking Chances more than I have ever seen you rant before. I think it’s hilarious the you got From Ashes. Just pass it on to someone else. I wouldn’t read it. A lot of people I know hated both books. You are not alone.

I am super, super jelly that you got When You Were Here because I want that book more than ANYTHING. Rarely do contemporaries work for me, but that sounds like one I would ADORE. I hope it’s good.

Anyway, vlog every week, please! 😀

  5. So excited for When You Were Here, it sounds fantastic and I can’t wait to read your thoughts on it! Also, good working on cutting your vlogs down. I’ve watched them even when they were a little lengthy but my gigabytes thank you 😉

  6. Looks like I had the right idea when I got From Ashes this week and immediately thought..UH, yeah—this is not gonna be for me. I agree with you on Zadoff’s work. Love what I’ve read of his so far!

  7. I’m really excited about When You Were Here too! I just had to get it…even though I probably shouldn’t have. My ‘AHHH must read before baby comes’ list just keeps growing. 🙂 Enjoy all your new books!

  8. Boy Nobody and Variant! I enjoyed the latter a lot, so I hope you do, too. I haven’t heard much about Boy Nobody yet, but it sounds right up my alley – looking forward to your thoughts on it. I haven’t heard of the rest (except for When You Were Here), but enjoy them all, nevertheless! Have a lovely week, April. 🙂

  9. Boy Nobody sounds really good. I am buying that one for the library!

I think it is fantastic that you are participating in World Book Night. I live in the middle of nowhere so I probably won’t be joining that though I think it is an amazing program. I did mean to participate in Rock the Drop earlier this week but I forgot about it till it was too late 🙁 Maybe next year!

  10. Not really familiar with any of these, but I hope you enjoy them all 🙂

    Check This Out! 🙂

  11. You’re going to love Crown Duel! It’s one of my favorite fantasy novels of all time.

  12. That is too funny that you were sent From Ashes. Your review of Taking Chances was hilarious, and also made me realize I would not like that book. And From Ashes looks similar. Well, the covers are almost identical. Except the people are standing instead of sitting on a bench.

I hope this week isn’t quite so busy. Things have been so busy for me, especially since February, and they will probably stay that way all the way through summer. Although July and August will be a little less busy, I think. Well, I hope anyway!

  13. Haha, PLEASE go read Asher’s review of From Ashes at Paranormal Indulgence, it made me laugh so hard with how terrible that book sounded. Yeah…I’m thinking not for you (or me for that matter).

  14. Such a small arrivals week for you! That’s nice for playing catch up. And what arrivals they are too! Your favorite author and a nice, quick book in a series you love. Or, you know, NOT. I’ve gotten a couple of giant books in the middle of a series, and I’m like really publisher? I’ve not even heard of this and I am busy.

  15. The book you’re giving out for World Book Night (Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life) is pretty darn awesome. I enjoyed it when I read it, especially because the illustrations are fun to look at!

Out of your haul this week, I think the one I’m anticipating the most is When You Were Here. It sounds like such a good contemporary read, and I’m thinking I need to get it in my hands as soon as it releases!
