Yours At Midnight | Robin Bielman | Book Review

Even though Christmas is done and over with, same with New Year’s, I am still down for winter-setting and holiday romances because it is freezing cold here and thoughts of the beach would fill me with an insane sort of jealousy. Yours At Midnight by Robin Bielman was a quick at my desk sort of read that satisfied my craving for a swoonworthy, grown up story. However, this novella did leave me wanting more, and you can take that as a good thing or a bad thing.

Yours At Midnight by Robin Bielman | Good Books And Good WIne

Four years ago, Quinn’s twin brother Oliver died in a car accident on New Year’s Eve. Driven by grief, Quinn sleeps with his next door neighbor, Lyric who FYI has always had a crush on Oliver. Anyways, Quinn freaks the eff out and just kind of leaves and Lyric ends up super mad at Quinn and hurt and upset by his actions. Lyric has not spoken to Quinn in years. Yours At Midnight shows us what happens when Quinn is back in town and the sparks start to reignite between the two, despite some issues they both need to work out.

Lyric is a pretty capable heroine. However, she makes quite a few questionable decisions that I felt were really illogical and kind of lowered her in my estimation. That stated, because I am a sap, I really was rooting for her to have a happy ending and to overcome her grief, especially because Quinn is clearly the right guy for her. Quinn actually comes across as a pretty nice guy for the most part — except for flashbacks to his childhood. He’s totally that guy who thought being mean was the way to a girl’s heart, ha ha.

The romance in Yours At Midnight by Robin Bielman is really sweet, if not for a few hiccups along the way. There are sex scenes, FYI. I feel like I always need to bring that up in my romance reviews, but well it’s important to know. I really did enjoy how the Happily Ever After (HEA) came about, although yes, like I said, I had issues with Lyric’s life choices. Overall, I’d describe this book as being super cute, but not the kind of romance book that will stick with me, like Bet Me or A Rogue By Any Other Name. If you’re on the prowl for season-appropriate romance reading, then sure this might be a good one to pick up for your ereader.

  1. Wait, her name is Lyric? Really? No offense to anyone named Lyric, but really? Anyway, sometimes I like those quick, satisfying reads, even if they won’t stick with me. I’m not 100% sure this one is for me though. I have a hard time getting into books where one character likes the brother of another character, and then ends up with the other brother. Does that make sense?

Also, it kind of freaks me out when I see books where the hero is named Quinn. I know it can be a guy’s name. I have met boys named Quinn. But in romances, and the guy is named Quinn . . . I don’t know. I am just so used to it being my name . . . obviously 🙂

Also, whenever I read your romance reviews, it makes me want to grab one and read it. It’s been some time since I’ve read them, but I used to read them pretty much exclusively. But I always grab a YA book instead because I have so many around.

    • Yes, her name is REALLY Lyric, she’s nice but makes stupid life choices. And I think your hang up totally makes sense.

Yeah, I’d be weirded out if I was reading a romance and the guy’s name was April. Unlikely, but still, makes so much sense.

READ ALL OF THE ROMANCE, actually i do really like romance as a break from YA books.

  2. I do love a good romance and this one sounds really sweet. (Though I have to say, the name Lyric made me giggle, too.)

  3. This does sound cute. I like it when bad circumstances bring people together that otherwise wouldn’t end up that way. People always have sex when their grieving…. at least in books and movies. haha Personally, sex wouldn’t be on my radar if I was going through something like that. I don’t get.

  4. I definitely agree w/your review. The romance is so sweet and even though Lyric’s choices are questionable at best, I was still rooting for them! Great review and thanks for including a link to mine!

  5. Haha, April, I just added this one to my wishlist as well. I love that you’re reviewing these more and more. Sometimes I get in the mood to read something like that that I don’t have to make notes for and all that. Something easy, fun, and not too heavy. Thanks because I’m always looking for titles!

    • I hope you like Yours At Midnight! Yah, I just need that break with a grown up book from time to time you know, and these novellas are super easy to read and quick to review as well.

  6. I don’t know if it’s silly of me to find her name so amusing. I’m assuming there’s a good reason for her name being Lyric? I would at least hope there would be.

This sounds like a cute, quick read. Sometimes, those can be the best!
