Stacking The Shelves (22)

Hurray! 3 Day weekend! I have some cool plans this weekend — I am meeting Marissa Meyer at a book signing tomorrow. I also plan to write all of the reviews and read all the books and clean ALL THE THINGS, but well when I get ambitious usually not a whole lot comes of it. We shall see. What are your plans this weekend? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to hear what you’ll be up to.

For Review:

Seven Wonders: The Colossus Rises by Peter Lerangis; Firebrand by Gillian Philip | Good Books And Good Wine

Seven Wonders: The Colossus Rises by Peter Lerangis (Unsolicited) – Basically this kid has to find seven ancient artifacts and there’s a secret organization which means I am super freakin pumped to read this.
Firebrand by Gillian Philip (Unsolicited) – Frankly, I am SUPER excited about this historical fantasy that has a 16 year old kid as main character. I guess it’s popular in the UK. YAY!

Andrew Jenks: My Adventures As A Young Filmmaker; Etched In Clay by Andrea Cheng | Good Books And Good Wine

Andrew Jenks: My Adventures As A Young Filmmaker by Andrew Jenks (Unsolicited) – So I have no idea who this guy is, but based on the press release he seems interesting. However, my time is limited so I’m not entirely sure if I’ll read this.
Etched In Clay: The Life Of Dave, Enslaved Potter and Poet by Andrea Cheng (Unsolicited) -This is short, told in verse and has woodcuts. I’ll definitely be reading this sooner rather than later.

Invisibility by Andrea Cremer and David Levithan; Brother, Brother by Clay Carmichael | Good Books And Good Wine

Brother, Brother by Clay Carmichael (Requested Review Copy) – Hell yes. Literary YA. The blurb compared this to Where Things Come Back so OF COURSE I requested it.
Invisibility by Andrea Cremer and David Levithan (Unsolicited) – I won’t lie, I started read this immediately and got five pages in before the pressure of all my other reads got to me. It’s super good so far though. And yes, I will be finishing it.

From Netgalley and Harper Audio:

Strangelets by Michelle Gagnon (Netgalley) – This was read now and it’s pubbed by the SohoTeen imprint. I liked Don’t Turn Around by Gagnon, although it was not perfect by any means, so I am willing to give this a shot. Plus, I’m loving this new mystery/thriller YA trend.
Escape Theory by Margaux Froley (Netgalley) – Another Read Now from SohoTeen. And you guys! This one has a boarding school. Heck yes.
On Little Wings by Regina Sirois (Netgalley) – This is a Penguin contemporary debut novel and it just looks like spring/summer so of course I had to request it. I haven’t been burned yet by Penguin Teen’s contemps.
Beyond Belief: My Secret Life Inside Scientology And My Harrowing Escape by Jenna Miscaviage Hill read by Sandy Rustin (Harper Audio – Requested review copy) – OMG you guys. I cannot. I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS BOOK given my kooky obsession with cults.

Gifted:

Valentine's Day Package from Heidi at YA Bibliophile | Good Books And Good Wine

Valentine’s Surprised from Heidi at YA Bibliophile — basically this made my day 1000x better.

Ashes On The Waves by Mary Lindsey galley | Good Books And Good Wine

Ashes On The Waves by Mary Lindsey from Oblong Books – Pretty much when they have signings you can pick through the ARCs for like a take home prize and you guys this one is a retelling of Poe’s Annabel Lee so OF COURSE I walked out with it.

Purchased For Kindle:

Yours To Keep by Shannon Stacey – This was a Kindle daily deal and I knew that I’d kick myself if I didn’t immediately snap it up.
Beautiful Chaos by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl – Purchased today while they are $2.99.
Beautiful Redemption by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl – Might as well finish up the series, also for $2.99 today.

In case you skipped it or missed it, here’s a recap of what we’ve posted here last week:

In which I just laugh and laugh because I got to work in a GIF from The Office in my review of WHAT WE SAW AT NIGHT by Jacquelyn Mitchard.

Allison counts down her Top Ten Romances and makes me want to read ALL THE BOOKS.

Yo, this book is AMAZING especially because it’s not overwhelmed by forced romance or that time I was like everyone! Read CITY OF A THOUSAND DOLLS by Miriam Forster.

Essentially, this review of MIDWINTERBLOOD by Marcus Sedgwick turned into me debating whether the book is YA or adult.

Allison has never been to New Orleans but after reading OUT OF THE EASY by Ruta Septys, she can picture it perfectly.

Looking for a book that is hot hot hot? Check out Allison’s review of FIRELIGHT by Kristen Callihan.

Hells yes, Celtic Inspired fantasy! Or a review of THE HOLDERS by Julianna Scott.

Comments

  1. Ashes on The Waves looks incredible! I love that cover. I hope you have a great week.

  2. Invisibility & Brother, Brother look really good! I hope you enjoy everything 🙂

    My IMM

  3. I got Firebrand as well, but genius that I am…I didn’t even realize it was YA (or at least features a teen character). It definitely sounds pretty awesome.

    • LOL. I don’t actually think it’s totally pubbed in the US as YA, but it looks like it could cross over. Whatever I am beyond pumped to read it hahaha, hope you are into it too!

  4. I am so excited for Firebrand!! Thought seriously about ordering it from amazonUK! I can’t wait to see what you think about it! Also how have I not heard about Ashes on the Waves? Definitely adding that to the pile!

  5. April very lovely indeed. So happy for you that you got Ashes on the Waves. That book has a very beautiful cover indeed. Hope you love all your new books.

  6. So I got to see Marissa Meyer when she was here last week in my area, and she is SUPER awesome. And super cool. I hope you have a ton of fun meeting her!!

Anyways, Invisibility looks really fantastic. I’m super curious to see what you end up thinking of it, because while the concept seems amazing, I’ve seen a few ‘meh’ ratings as well. Hopefully though, these two authors are going to be able to pull the cool concept off.

Also, I grabbed The Strangelets off of NetGalley as well, right when it first went up , I think. I love this whole psychological theme that it has going for it, and I can’t wait to start it! There need to be more creepy books out there.

So when I first say the title of Brother, Brother, I misread it as Brother Bear (for some odd reason) and was all like “I’VE SEEN THAT MOVIE.” But, lol, it was obviously something different. I hope it ends up being as good as it looks!

Fabulous haul, April! Enjoy all your lovely books, and have fun at that signing tomorrow!

    • I cannot wait to meet her. Plus the amazing thing about this signing is that her editor and also the lady who her imprint is named after will be there interviewing her. It’s going to be so cool.

Yeah — I think Invisibility can go either way. I like both authors and think they can pull the concept off.

DUDE YES creepy books are so cool and I’m glad that it’s starting to become a bigger trend.

LOL Brother Bear, I love that movie but it’s been so long since I’ve seen it. ALTHOUGH I do own it on DVD like a total nerd.

      Thank you so much <333

  7. Nice haul! I went ahead and added Brother, Brother to my to-read list and you reminded be about Invisibility which sounds and looks great!

  8. Ashes on the Waves is a book I’m super excited about after enjoying Lindsey’s debut title-I hope this one is great as well!

  9. Lucky!!! I really want to read Invisibility, I really like Andrea Cremer!

    Our StS@The Quiet Concert

  10. I signed up for Strangelets too. I’ve not read her other book, but I’m always looking for good teen mysteries. This sounds like a good one. I hope it is. Enjoy!

  11. Fantastic books! I also got Invisibility and can’t wait to start it. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Ashes on the Waves–I love Poe, especially Annabel Lee. Have fun at your signing this weekend!

  12. Heidi is the best! She sent me some Origami Yoga tattoos for the kids at the library. They are going to LOVE them. Seriously, these kids cannot get enough temp. tattoos. And the fact that they are kind of Star Wars related. Oh heck yeah!

Also, if I had an ARC of Invisibility, I would have read a few pages immediately, too.

    Enjoy your books!

    • For real, Heidi is AMAZING. OH man, I bet those kids will flip their lid over that hahahaha.

I am glad you understand my need to immediately check out a good looking book.

      Thank you 🙂

  13. Glad you liked the goodies. I appreciate you and think you’re pretty rad 🙂
And you got some great books there! I have never heard of Firebrand but it looks awesome! Enjoy 🙂

  14. So many books! I hope you enjoy everything!

  15. So many books! I hope you enjoy everything!

  16. ‘Ashes on the Waves’ looks amazing – hope you enjoy!

As for this weekend, I don’t get a three-day weekend. Our state legislature decided they need to control our school calendar to encourage people to visit the Gulf of Mexico a bit longer, so as a result we lost President’s Day as a day off. Seriously.

So tomorrow, I will be teaching. YAY me!

    Enjoy your three-day weekend,

    Crys

  17. I read & reviewed On Little Wings back when it was just a self-published book. Regina did an awesome job! I hope you enjoy all of your new, awesome treats 🙂

  18. oh goodness, I might have to read Invisibility! I’m dying to read it anyway and now you’ve really made me want to!

And Heidi is just plain fabulous isn’t she. I wish I was as awesome and thoughtful as she is. Seriously. Love. Her.

  19. I got Firebrand too, and I have read two chapters. So far…meh. But it’s seriously like four pages, so yeah. I hope it’s awesome, since I basically want to be a British person and they love it. I mean, for lofty reasons.

Yay, Invisibility. Hopefully we both love it!

Lol. I should have known you would request the scientology audio. I’m listening to the one on Marvel Comics, so I’m really in no place to judge on nerdiness. :-p

This Oblong books place sounds awesome!

  20. Wow! What a haul 🙂 I love those covers!! Very awesome 🙂

Stopping by from the STS. Happy reading!

  21. Woo! I am so excited you got a copy of Ashes on the Waves. It’s so fun to see it out in the world finally.

  22. Seven Wonders: The Colossus Rises looks and sounds absolutely BRILLIANT. I can’t wait to read your thoughts on this one! Also, Ashes on the Waves looks good too.
