In My Mailbox (95) | Stacking The Shelves (16)

Ahhh you guys it’s been three weeks since I’ve done a book haul sort of post. Turns out my vacation was filled with more social/leave the house/interact with other people events than I had anticipated. I mean, it was nice to have all that time off but at the same time, I would have liked something a little more chill. So, this weekend I am being a hermit and shutting out the world to relax and do blog things like catch up on reviews and also brain storm things to write discussion/opinion posts about. OH OH and I plan on finishing The Cadet Of Tildor by Alex Lidell and the audiobook of Reached by Ally Condie! OH OH and I want to start Pink Smog by Francesca Lia Block because it’s under 200 pages AND Epic Reads is reading it for the January Book Club. What are you currently reading or looking forward to reading? Tell me in the comments!

In My Mailbox January 5 2012

For Review:

Scent Of Magic by Maria V. Snyder (Vine) -I chose this because let’s be real, it’s Maria V. Snyder I could not resist at all. And thank goodness Touch Of Power was on sale like a few days after I picked it out. It’s nice when the universe works like that.

Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton (End Of The World event) – I’ve read and loved this and of course will be giving this copy away.

Wings Of The Wicked by Courtney Allison Moulton (End Of The World Event) – I have also loved this book and will be giving my copy away.

Shadows In The Silence by Courtney Allison Moulton (End Of The World Event) – LOL this book came as a manuscript and because I have a jerk streak, I laughed a little bit because I have a nice ARC of this and the manuscript is so big and bulky. Anyways, this will be given away as well as I read my ARC which I will ALSO giveaway. I feel like Oprah only I’m not giving people cars.

The Fire Horse Girl by Kay Honeyman (Unsolicited) – I finished reading this last night and utterly LOVED it and cannot wait to write up the review. Add this book to your TBR, it’s fantastic and could use more attention.

Luck Of The Draw by Piers Anthony (Unsolicited) – Yeah, this randomly showed up and while I think the cover is cool, I’m kind of low on time with a big TBR so I think I could find someone to take it off my hands.

One Direction: A Year With One Direction and One Direction: Behind The Scenes (Unsolicited) – LOLOLOLOL I just chase Tony around the house with these making kissy noises at him. So, they’ve served a purpose. I’ll have to put together a giveaway or something.

100% Official Justin Bieber Just Getting Started  (Unsolicited) – AHAHAHAHAHA my second copy of this. Again, expect me to do a giveaway, maybe Sunday. I mean, I am sure some of you have kids or patrons or family who would want these books.

Heart Of Steel by Jennifer Probst (Accepted Review Copy) – I read The Marriage Bargain on my vacation and actually quite liked it so when I was received a copy of this in a email, of course I accepted.

Strands Of Bronze And Gold by Jane Nickerson (Netgalley) – I was originally rejected for this, but then it was back on Netgalley and I’m like if at first you don’t succeed… and OMG THEY APPROVED ME and I cannot wait to read this retelling of Bluebeard.

Return To Me by Justina Chen Headley (Netgalley) – I am a sucker for Contemporary books with pretty covers.

Catherine by April Lindner (Netgalley) – This is a retelling of Wuthering Heights which I have not yet read, but I just loved Jane so I instantly snapped this one up. I’m hoping to read it within the next two weeks.

Etiquette And Espionage by Gail Carriger (Netgalley) – Lots of my friends like this author and it’s YA and I was like why the heck not.

A Spear Of Summer Grass by Deanna Raybourn (Netgalley) – HELL YES! I am so freakin psyched about this book. Africa and flappers bring it on y’all.

Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren (Netgalley) – Um, pleasure reading? LOL. Whatever, the email convinced me and I like what I’ve read from Gallery Books. No hating here y’all.

Yours At Midnight by Robin Bielman (Accepted Review Copy) – I just read one book from Entangled and when one of my friends who happens to be a publicist offered this, I was like YES PLEASE I LOVE ROMANCE. And I’m starting to really like Entangled’s romance books.

Purchased:

Snowed Over by Angie Stanton – I bought this for my Kindle because I am pretty sure Ginger recommended it and when she recommends something I purchase it if the price is right. I’ve already read Snowed Over, I thought it was adorable and quick but not exactly the best book I’ve ever read.

All I Want For Christmas by Ros Clarke – I also bought this novella because Ginger told me too. You guys, I am just going to blame her for being so broke. That stated, I really enjoyed All I Want For Christmas and it helped put me in a festive sort of mood.

A Christmas Bride by Susan Mallory – Basically purchased this because Christmas was in the title. I haven’t read it yet and have decided to save it for December 2013. I know, that’s a long way off.

Within Reach by Sarah Mayberry – This was a Kindle Daily Deal and a few bloggers I know seem to really love Sarah Mayberry the book was like $1.99 I can’t regret that price.

Touch Of Power by Maria V. Snyder – Another book that I’ve had on my wishlist FOREVER and it was a daily deal so there was no question with buying it. I’ve already read this — it was my first book read in 2013.

All He Ever Needed by Shannon Stacey – Yes, I totally bought this one too, but I liked Mistletoe & Margaritas, so I thought it might be a good idea to try one of her full length books.

A Visit From Sir Nicholas by Victoria Alexander – Another Christmas themed Kindle book that I don’t plan on reading for another 11 months. Stocking up now while they’re cheap.

Forbidden by Syrie James and Ryan James – I’ve had this as an ARC forever and felt guilty. So then I bought for my kindle it while on sale so I wouldn’t feel guilty about not having gotten to it yet. Plus I got to give the ARC to one of my friends.

Eve by Anna Carey – Pretty much the same thing, I bought this for my Kindle so I could stop feeling guilty about the unread ARC.

Stealing Parker by Miranda Kenneally – Basically this was like $5 and I bought it and then it was on sale like 4 days later for $0.99 and I was like damn it. But then I was like, whatever small price to pay to support an author all my blogger friends love.

The Witch’s Daughter by Paula Brackston – Again, this has been on my wishlist forever and it was on sale for pretty cheap for Kindle, so I bought it without a question.

The Coincidence Of Callie And Kayden by Jessica Sorensen – This was like number 2 on the Kindle 100 and 99 cents and I think it’s going to get picked up by a bigger publisher because it seems all the top selling books do. ANYWAYS! I have read this already and actually really enjoyed it.

The Great Influenza by John Barry read by Scott Brick – Purchased on Audible with a credit because I am obsessed with reading about diseases in fiction, so I’d like to read non-fiction about diseases as well. Plus, I like Scott Brick as a narrator.

Masters Of Doom by David Kushner narrated by Wil Wheaton – Also purchased on Audible with a credit because I’m in the mood for more non-fiction ALSO Wil Wheaton narrates so yeah this was a no-brainer purchase.

Gifted:

Playing Hurt by Holly Schindler – My mom learned how to gift Kindle books for Christmas and this was my digital stocking stuffer. Yay!

Kindle Fire HD 7″ From Tony! Hurrah! Granted, I ended up spending 19 hours playing Bejweled 2 with this instead of reading, but it’s freakin awesome. I love reading books on it, especially because I don’t have to turn on the additional lamp. I will say, I wish the battery was better. But yay!

Magical Mayhem edited by Douglas Rees and Laurie McLeangifted from Pam at Bookalicious – So, I was shocked when Pam gifted this book to me, because I had planned on buying myself a copy because I got to be one of the bloggers to do an intro for this book. Anyways, it was a very pleasant Christmas present and I am so grateful to Pam. <3

Won:

What’s Left Of Me by Kat Zhang from Epic Reads Tea Time – Yayyyy! I am so excited to have a finished copy of this book, guess that means I need to read it by the end of the month.

Don’t Turn Around by Michelle Gagnon from Epic Reads Tea Time – I laughed when I got this because I am totally going to hell. This was my 5th copy and so I’m like okay FINE I WILL READ IT. And I did, I read it during my overtime shift and it was decent. Not the best I’ve read, but definitely not the worst. I don’t have the book at all pictured because I passed it on to my friend Carolyn. My review should be up soon though.

  13. *ears perk* Book club? Online? As in I wouldn’t have to leave the house? WHY WASN’T I INFORMED? This is the kind of stuff you put in emails, Epic Reads.
(And if they do mention it, say nothing.)

And DON’T LIE to us, April. We all know you’re a 1-D fan. And a Bieber fan. OHHH. Those would make the perfect birthday present for my little sister. She despises them so it’s perfect. INGENIUS really.

I forgot and I’m too tired, BUT I READ YOUR REVIEW OF TOP. I promise you, I did. And I laughed and I hugged myself because you weren’t there to hug. BECAUSE I’M SO HAPPY YOU READ IT. I luuuurve this series. It’s full of all the things I love and I’m really happy that you received nicely. So let’s have a cyber hug. *hugs monitor*

A kindle fire and Etiquette & Espionage all at the same time?! How can you stand the happy pressure? Doesn’t the joy just suffocate you? How can you ever be in a bad mood after that? I’m eating green jelly just thinking about it. LUCKY DOVE.

  15. Snap with Maria V. Synder! I got Scent of Magic for review on NetGalley and Amazon had the first book on sale the next day which worked out perfectly 😀 I also got What’s Left of Me. Enjoy your lazy weekend!

  16. I am currently rereading Touch of Power before I start Scent of Magic. I love Maria V. Snyder’s books! I have Etiquette and Espionage and A Spear of Summer Grass for review and I’m excited about getting to those too.

I can’t believe you were rejected for any galley. I am glad you got Strands of Bronze and Gold in the end. It sounds really good.

I look forward to your review of Cadet of Tildor. It is one I’m thinking of buying for my library’s teen collection. It is always hard to decide what YA debuts to order.

  17. I’ll have to check out The Fire Horse Girl. I have a copy somewhere. Also, I bought the audio of Eve because I feel so guilty that I haven’t read it yet!! I’ve heard such great things!!! Enjoy your books.

  19. Wonderful haul this week. I can’t wait to read The Fire-Horse Girl. I saw your review and I wanted to read it before that, but now I really want to read it.

  20. Um, this is the most amazing list of books.

  21. Bahahaha, the Bieber and One Direction books. lololol

Scent of Magic disappointed me. Like, it wasn’t bad, because Maria V. Snyder, but it’s totally nowhere near as awesome as book one, and left me a bit irritated, so be aware, I guess. Also, have something you can smash or punch when you get to the end.

No hate from me on the Bastard book. I’m sure some people will judge you, but I curious about that shit too, you know? I tried to read 50 Shades, though I DNFed pretty early on. It was that bad. Still. You want to know, so you deserve a judgment-free chance to see what that shiz is about.

HOLY SHIT, you got FIVE copies of Don’t Turn Around. What the eff?

    • LOL, yeah those books are going to be on my favorites shelf someday — the Beiber and One Direction books I mean.

I’m like nervous about Scent Of Magic but I also think maybe I’ll like it because my expectations will be adjusted going in.

Yeah, luckily I don’t care much about the people who would judge my taste in books. And I want to know what’s up with it and why apparently a million people are so into it.

Yeah for Don’t Turn Around it came — 1 as an ARC, 1 ARC in the giveaway bag at the Harper BEA party, 1 hard cover as part of a random mailing, 1 hard cover as part of the Halloween promotion thing, and finally the copy won from Book Cheer at Epic Reads lol. I figured it was time for me to read it after all those copies.
