Top 10 Books Read In 2012

Oh my goodness you guys! I read so many wonderful books in 2012. I’m actually still reading books for 2012 — and so at 251 at time of writing it was SO hard to narrow my favorites down to ten, but I have to be 100% honest with my favorites even if a few are on every other list and even if I come across as kind of cliche. ALSO! These are in no particular order, just the order they popped into my head while writing this. You can read my reviews for more info.

  1. How on earth have you read 251 books this year? I’m impressed with my 70ish!

  2. It’s this time of year when I see the same books popping up on lots of ‘Best of…” lists – I might not ordinarily have chosen them, but so many people can’t be wrong! This year it is ‘Code Name Verity’ and ‘The Statistical Probability…’ (for the record, last year it seemed to be The Fault in Our Stars’. So, I best add them to my TBR stack!

  3. Great picks. And congrats on reading 251 books so far this year.

Here’s my top 10. Wasn’t it hard to choose only 10?

Enjoy finding new books to read.

  5. Awesome top 10! I’ve got Sea of Tranquility, The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight and Just One Day on my TBR, I keep seeing them pop up on lists, so I know they’re gonna be good, I can’t wait!

    My TTT: Coffee Bean Bookshelf

  6. Code Name Verity was in my top 10 also! What an incredible book. I love A Game of Thrones too, and really liked The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. Looks like a great list — thanks for giving me more ideas!

  7. Oh a great list April! So many books I still need to get to such as Something Like Normal and Sea of Tranquility! I also can’t wait to get my hands on Gayle Forman’s Just One Day! πŸ™‚

  8. 251 – go you!! I’m 10 away from 200, I don’t know if I’m going to make it but I’m going to be ready fast for the next 14 days!

And YES to Code Name Verity it’s my top pick of 2012, too. And I loved Something Like Normal, too!

  9. so sosososososoooooo happy to see Something Like Normal on this list – my love for that book is endless. and Code Name Verity! HYFR. both you and Anna have put Grave Mercy on your lists, so I need to read this like right now.

  10. Wow 251 books? And we aren’t even done with the year yet! I really need to borrow my Mum’s copy of Game of Thrones as she’s got me hooked on the show and I want all the bits they left out πŸ™‚

  11. Awesome choices, April! We have several in common. Code Name Verity, Grave Mercy, and Something Like Normal. I’m reading Scarlet now! I’m planning to read The Sea of Tranquility in the next couple of weeks. I have to see what all the fuss is about. πŸ™‚

    My Favorites!

  12. Ooooh, The statitistical probability of love at first sight is sooo beautiful. I loved it too πŸ™‚

  13. Code Name Verity would definitely be on my list. I loved For Darkness Shows the Stars too. And Game of Thrones. I love that cover!

  14. Ooh loving this list because there are so many books on it that I want to read Γ’β‚¬β€œ and I loved Game of Thrones!

  15. How did everyone else manage to choose just 10? I am a cheating failure! Oh well.

Code Name Verity: Was definitely SO GOOD. I didn’t fall in love with it, but I have ENDLESS admiration for Elizabeth Wein for pulling off such a daring novel.

Just One Day: You know how I feel. I may have made an annoyance out of myself on the Readventurer trying to explain why I don’t think it’s a romance novel. So that was fun. At least they’re good sports about it.

    Scarlet: *eyes review pile* *twitches*

Something Like Normal: YES. You were the first review I saw for this, and convinced me it wouldn’t be all propaganda about soldiers. AND YOU WERE RIGHT, OF COURSE.

The Sea of Tranquility: Guess I should check that one out!

    Grave Mercy: Loved!

A Game of Thrones: I still need to read this series. Epic fantasy, I love you, but you’re so long! Also, that cover is hilarious.

TSPOLAFS: I’ve heard endless amounts of gushing and I really need to read this one!

Okay for Now: I don’t think this is even on my tbr list, but I believe you, so I’ll add it to GR right now.

FDSTS: My hopes were too high for this one, so my main feeling was one of disappointment, BUT I do know it was brilliantly done.

  16. Ginger @ GReads! says

For Darkness Shows the Stars keeps popping up on a lot of people’s faves list… I think I need to grab my copy & read it ASAP. Also, yay for Something Like Normal! I adore Trish’s writing.

  17. Code Name is every where, I’m intrigued.

  18. Great list! I also have Just One Day on my list. Ahh! I loved it. I need to read For Darkness Shows the Stars and Statistical Probability of Love –both on my holiday wish list. BTW, your review of Darkness is what sparked my interest!

  19. YES to so many of these!

  20. Great list! Grave Mercy and Game of Thrones made mine too. I’ve never seen that cover for GoT before, though. I love it! MY TTT. Happy Tuesday! πŸ˜€

  21. Read and loved half the books on your list and one (For Darkness Shows the Stars) on your recommendation! I definitely can’t wait to check out Just One Day among other titles on your list πŸ™‚

  22. Something Like Normal is in everyone’s list, I MUST read this book!! And The Sea of Tranquility… I’m kind of in love with that cover. So many great ones! Can’t wait for Just One Day!

  24. YES! Someone else who is reading The Song of Ice and Fire books. I’m about a hundred pages into A Clash of Kings right now but I loved A Game of Thrones. πŸ˜€

    Grave Mercy was amazing too.

The majority of your list is still my TBR though so I’m guessing I’m going to have an epic 2013. :]

    My Top Ten Tuesday

  25. I just finished The Sea of Tranquility last night. In fact, I stayed up way too late reading it. Now I’m exhausted today, but it was worth it πŸ™‚

  26. SO jealous that you got an advanced copy of Scarlet to read! I’ve pre-ordered mine so I didn’t go check out your review of the book. I think I read Cinder in 3 days! And it only took me so long because I have a regular 9-5 which doesn’t allow me time to read! πŸ™

    • Ah, see I work from 8-5, but I still make reading a priority. And sometimes my work days go from 8am-9:30 p.m. when I am teaching night classes. OH and I have to take on-calls during the weekend and hold our crisis hotline as well.

  27. 250 books? You’re my idol, that’s kind of incredible that you fit all of those books in while still… leaving the house? haha! But Just One Day, For Darkness Shows the Stars, and TSPOLAFS are all fantastic books!

  28. So I haven’t read the Game of Thrones series yet but I do watch the show. Does that count for anything?! Love it. Totes. I have to say, though, that Just One Day really seems like a book that would resonate with me so much and I can’t wait to pick up a copy. I’m also really intrigued by Code Name Verity but I need to gather the fortitute to actually read it. I really hate crying and I have a feeling this book will render me into a sobbing, hysterical mess. So yeah.

  29. That’s cool! I’m putting up my list sometime this week πŸ˜€
I’m so happy you liked Just one Day! Thats at the top of my TO-Buy List πŸ˜€

  30. First of all, mad applause for reading 251 books. You’re my hero. Second of all, I WANT TO JUMP UP AND DOWN WITH THE FLAILS FOR ALL THES BOOKS. Well, the ones that I’ve read anyway. Because SERIOUSLY: Grave Mercy is outstanding. And I almost put Scarlet on my list, but I didn’t want to include books that aren’t out yet, but YES, I AGREE FOREVER. But you KNOW I am so effing excited that you loved Game of Thrones. SERIOUSLY. I can’t even tell you how happy it makes me when I know someone else who started reading those books and loving them as much as I do. It’s the best feeling.
Now, all I need to do is grab my copies of Code Name Verity and For Darkness Shows the Stars and get to reading! But I have to finish The Sea of Tranquility first!! YAY!!!

  31. I have Game of Thrones on my bookshelf but I haven’t been brave enough to read it yet. It looks so loooong. I love the show though.

  32. I love Grave Mercy & Something Like Normal! And I just realized what the cover of Sea of Tranquility is all about lol and I need to read For Darkness Shows The Stars! I heard so many good things.

  33. SO MANY GOOD BOOKS ON THIS LIST.

I think For Darkness Shows the Stars and Something Like Normal will likely appear on mine as well.

There are still so many of these I need to read! I’m working my way through The Sea of Tranquility right now and really want to finish it but it’s so long that I feel as though I have not had the time to sit down and do so.

  34. I haven’t read most of these books! The Statistical Probability has been on my list fora while, I guess I’ll have to move it up in priority and get going!

You can visit my website to see my TTT: napsandnovels.com

  35. That cover of GoT is so badass I can’t even.

  36. I loved GRAVE MERCY, too! And I really need to get off my butt to read SCARLET, I kept putting off the 2013s in an effort to finish 2012s first…but I think it’s time. Great list!

  37. Your list to me is a reminder of all those great books on my shelves I have yet to read! Although I did read The Statistical Probability Of Love At First Sight and it was absolutely lovely!

  38. yay, I’ve read 7 of these! I’m really looking forward to Just One Day…I actually wasn’t planning on even reading Scarlet until the internet EXPLODED with rave reviews of it.

  39. I’m SOOOOO with you on Code Name Verity, Grave Mercy, For Darkness Shows the Stars and The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. I should also take a second here to tell you that I purchased three of those four (CNV, GM, FDSTS) based on your reviews. Sooo don’t like anyone tell you that bloggers don’t sell books because you TOTALLY and 100% sold me on those. To the point that I instantly one-click purchased those babies and got to reading.

And guess what? I just bought Sea of Tranquility because it’s on this list. I then bought Cinder (because I have been on the fence about reading it) and will likely be buying Scarlet because, let’s face, I’m probably going to love Cinder.

I already wanted Just One Day, but now I’m even more excited to read it!
