Top Ten Favorite Places To Read

Hi everyone, it’s Allison.
This week, it’s freebie week for Top Ten Tuesday so we get to choose our own topics.
I decided to go with my favorite places to read. Here we go!

As always Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke And The Bookish.

My Bed
I love to lay in bed, curled up under the blankets with a good book in my hand, and a cat at my side. It’s one of my absolute favorite places to be!

Bookstores
One of the ways that I did some of my graduate school reading was sitting in Barnes and Noble. From time to time when I was able to, I would try to read something for fun too. Bookstores are very relaxing places for me to read.

Coffee Shops
Luckily for me, the Barnes and Noble that I spent much of my time in also had a Starbucks café inside it so I really got the best of both worlds. I just love reading with a cup of coffee next to me, possibly a pastry of some sort, and the wonderful smells of the coffee shop in the background.

Bubblebath
Nothing beats relaxing in warm bubbly water with a book in your hand. Of course, when I do this, I make extra sure I’m being careful to not drop the book in the water. I did this once when I was in elementary school with a library book, I don’t think I’ve ever really lived it down.

Hammock
My grandparents on my mom’s side have a back porch where every summer they hang two hammocks that they got on one of their trips to Hawaii. These hammocks are so ridiculously comfortable, and I always try to claim one to read a book in when I want time to myself.

Poolside
My grandparents also have a pool at their house, and I’ve spent many summers sitting on the deck warming up after being in the water and reading a book trying to get a tan. Again, I’m always careful to keep my books away from the water. Dangerous stuff!

On my feet
As you know, I’ve recently discovered the joys of audiobooks, and I have to admit I am really enjoying being able to listen to a book while cleaning and doing other housework, or while walking to/from work. It makes me feel more productive, and I also find it to be more enjoyable because I know I’m reading as well.

Dad’s Recliner
We have an oversize recliner in our living room that has always been referred to as Dad’s chair. It is really comfortable, and gives you plenty of space to relax even with a cat in your lap, and settle into a good book.

Outside on our back deck
Our house has a back deck attached to it which I do like to sit on although I don’t do it very often. I’m not sure why either. I just never seem to make my way outside to enjoy the weather and read on the deck. Maybe next summer I’ll have to try and fix that…

Couch at work
For the overnight shifts at work, I have a place that I sit to read my books. My co-workers laugh at me because I always wind up in the same spot. It’s a comfortable couch but not overly comfortable to the point where I would be too relaxed. It also happens to be right next to a stand with a lamp on it, and it’s in a central location where if a bell goes off I can quickly jump up and check the call panel to see where it’s at. And when I’m able to read, I do get a lot of reading done there.

So, those are my favorite places to read.
Where are yours?

  1. I am also a bathtub reader, though I usually nix the bubbles. I kind of like coffee shops, but honestly they can be too noisy at times. Great list!

  2. Great list! Numbers 1, 2 and 3 are definitely my favourite places too =)

Here’s my Top Ten for this week =)

  3. Today I ready for awhile at jury duty- let me just say that it wouldn’t be anywhere my top ten list of places! I’ve spent some time up in Yosemite and I can say that’s near the top- quiet, mountain air + a book!

  4. I’d love a hammock to read in; great list! 🙂 My TTT is Top Ten Characters (and Literary Figures) That I’d Name My Pets After: http://aliceinreaderland.wordpress.com/2012/11/05/top-ten-characters-and-literary-figures-that-id-name-my-pets-after/

  5. Hammock awesome. Audiobooks make drudgery more fun. I’m too paranoid about the tub.

  6. I love reading at Starbucks. You’d think it would be too noisy, but it’s surprisingly not. And the smells are delicious. Great list. My TTT

  7. Love this post ! amen to all of these!!!! especially “on your feet” just yesterday i had to do some chores around the house and litterally put head phones on my kindle, stuck it in my sweater and had the monotone voice read me the book.woreked out great. MULTI TASKING! Check out our Top Ten Fictional Crushes Katie @ Inkk

  8. Ooh yes to all of these – all are places I love to read, but probably where I read the most is my bed.

  9. Same thing for me about reading in bed, except swap out cat for dogs. Perfect! I also read a lot on the couch. I don’t really read anywhere else, unless I’m listening to an audiobook.

  10. I would LOVE to read in a hammock. It’s a secret wish of mine to have one when I own a house <3 And my bed is by far my favorite place to read. I thrown all my pillows in one corner and I curl against it with a good book.

Great list, this was fun to read!

  11. Great list! Mine 1st pick would be my bed too. Fun topic! 😀

  12. Ahhh what a nice list topic, I think I relaxed just reading it. I’m definitely a bathtub, hammock, bookstore & bed reader. Though I think my favorite spot is on my favorite couch, overlooking the river and trees with a cat (or more) by my side-like you mentioned and a nice cup of tea ♥ Thanks so much for sharing 🙂 Old follower via Twitter & FB, here’s my TTT

  13. I love reading in bed. I think it’s my favorite place to read.

  14. Oooh, I am SO jealous that you have a hammock to read in. That sounds utterly heavenly. I pretty much just read on one of my couches or in my bed. Sometimes I do toss a blanket on the floor and stretch out there too. Which is odd, but whatevs.

  15. It’s usually the coffee shop, the treadmill, or the bath for me. I have trouble on a couch or in bed. I read a few pages each night, but then usually doze off.

  16. Bubble baths are GREAT for reading in! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve either dropped the book or gotten water on them though. Whoops!

  17. I love reading in the tub! I have a hard time paying attention so the bathroom becomes my sanctuary since there are very few distractions. Whenever I try to read in a public space I find myself doing more people watching than reading. It’s always fun to make up stories for the lives of the people around you.

  18. What I wouldn’t GIVE for a hammock to read in! I think that’s the best place ever to have a cold beverage and just lose yourself in a book.

  19. I would think that another favorite place is on my bed while I’m working at my easel! 🙂

  20. Oo, I love this idea! I may have to borrow it for the next freebie 😀 It reminds me of all the places I used to read before I moved and don’t have access to anymore (ie the hammock my parents have and my dad’s recliner, going to have to get one of each!)

I decided to do Top Ten books I need to read from NPR’s Sci-fi and Fantasy list. And I’m probably way behind, but I’m loving the make-over!

  21. LOVE the hammock! Also, my computer desk because then I have more music options 🙂
