In My Mailbox (91) / Stacking The Shelves (12)

Do you ever feel like sometimes you waste your time off? Like, I’ve had 5 days in a row off and I could have squeezed in some blogging and gotten caught up on reviews and maybe finished another book, but instead I ended up on the Pinterest and going out of the house for LOTS of things! I feel really bad because this would have been a great time to FINALLY catch up, but I’ve kind of squandered it. ALTHOUGH, on the other hand, I’ve gotten in at least an hour and a half of working out each day, so yay me, health is kind of really important. OH and my Thanksgiving was pretty decent. How was yours? I’d love to hear in the comments.

In My Mailbox 11/25/12

For Review:

Falling For You by Lisa Schroeder (Unsolicited) – This contemporary sounds right up my alley in that I actively seek out contemporaries about protagonists who have experienced abuse because it relates to my job and I can always throw a review of one of these books in my work newsletter.

The Murmurings by Cary Ann West (Unsolicited) - The Murmurings is about a teenage girl who begins to hear the voices that drove her sister to suicide. It sounds like creep city. I cannot wait!

The Program by Suzanne Young (Unsolicited) – In this book, suicide is an epidemic and if you cry you end up in the program where they wipe your memories. The concept is so cool, I can’t wait to see how this book plays out.

The Lucky Ones by Anna Godbersen (Unsolicited) – This is the third book in the Bright Young Things series, but alas I have not read any of those books. No worries though, book 1 is on my kindle and rumor has it that it is cracktastic.

The Spindlers by Lauren Oliver (Vine) – I picked this book out because everything I’ve read by Lauren Oliver, I’ve loved so I am hoping I love this book too.

Purchased:

Lovely, Dark And Deep by Amy Mcnamara – I read Allison at The Allure Of Books‘ review and I knew I needed to have this book in my life and I immediately impulse ordered it.

Moon Over Manifest by Clare Vanderpool (Audible) – Heidi at Bunbury In The Stacks wrote a great review of the audiobook with a list of the elements within Moon Over Manifest that rock and I like all of those elements so I immediately dropped a credit on this one.

Between by Jessica Warman (Kindle) – This was a daily deal and lol since I had an unread ARC taking up space I was like, $2 is not a lot to pay to regain that space.

Holiday In Stone Creek by Linda Lael Miller  (Kindle) – CHRISTMAS BOOKS ARE HERE! Also, this was $1.24. HECK YES.

Dangerous Voices by Rae Carson (Kindle) – A short story by Rae Carson? Free? BOOM IMPULSE CLICKED.

Heart Of A Hunter by Lara Adrian (Kindle) – Another freebie, but it’s romantic fantasy and won a Romantic Times award.

In case you skipped it or missed it, here’s a recap of what we’ve posted here last week:

This book has not gotten enough attention, and so I finally set out and review Adios, Nirvana a YA contemporary book about a boy dealing with grief, among other things.

Y’all, I had HIGH hopes for this book, but alas was totally let down by Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes.

Hurrah for Thanksgiving! Allison and I get our thanks on.

In which I am not very overly enthusiastic about Black City by Elizabeth Richards.

AND another middle grade book, that I would love to see more reviews for: The Voyage of Lucy P. Simmons by Barbara Mariconda!

Finally, Allison makes an appearance on WORD For Teens with a guest post called The Stigma Of Mental Health Disorders And YA Books.

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren. Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

  1. Falling for you looks good!! 🙂 🙂 Should definitely check it out!! 🙂 Great haul April! 🙂 Enjoy!

Greetings from rainy Scotland! 😉 😀

  2. Very nice April. You always get some really good and interesting selection of books every week. I always love seeing what you get.

    Grace

  3. yeah, I’m really looking forward to Falling For You and seeing what Lisa Schroeder writes like NOT in verse.

Also, YAY Lovely, Dark and Deep! I am so excited to see your thoughts on that when you read it. That book spine is so gorgeous, sigh. I need to buy a hard copy for my shelves.

  4. I feel like I haven’t been as productive as I could be either-I have read a lot but had hoped to write my reviews for this week and have not yet…oh well.

I also got The Spindlers-have only read one chapter but am fully expecting to love it (although probably not as much as I loved Liesl and Po).

  5. I downloaded Rae Carson’s short story too (THANK YOU TWITTER!!), but I’ve been having trouble getting my PC Kindle thing to work *sad face*.

  6. Awesome stash! THE PROGRAM sounds awesome and THE MURMURINGS sounds uber creepy. Yay, Happy Reading!

  7. Yay!! Total happy dancing over here about you picking up the Manifest audiobook–you will not regret it! Also don’t worry–I haven’t finished a book all week either. Well, actually, I finished listening to Harry Potter 4, but since that was probably the 7th or so time I’ve read it I’m not sure that really counts…putting up the tree and decorations finally today though, which I absolutely love! Enjoy your last day off, April. 🙂

  8. I’m looking forward to The Lucky Ones. Moon Over Manifest is a cute middle school book. Hope you enjoy all your books! My STS

  9. Whoa, I had not heard of The Program before — it totally sounds cool! You have an awesome haul. Hope you enjoy them all! 🙂

Here’s my Stacking the Shelves 🙂

  10. You may not have done much reading but you got some really good books. Thanks for visiting.

  11. The Program sounds really intriguing. Actually, all of them do. I look forward to your thoughts on them.

  12. I have Lovely, Dark and Deep, too. Now I just need to crack it open! It sounds really great. And the audio of Moon Over Manifest is good, yes? Hmmm…sounds promising. I’ve been wanting to read it but haven’t gotten to it yet. Now I must check it out!!

  13. So jealous that you got The Lucky Ones! I love the Bright Young Things series! I hope you love it! Awesome books this week!

  14. THE LUCKYYYY ONEESS JEALOUS. My preordered copy should be coming in this week and I can’t wait to jump in! You should definitely read Bright Young Things – it’s full of scandal and illicit booze, so you know.

  15. All of your books look great! I hope you enjoy them!

  16. The Murmuring sounds super good. I’ve seen it around a lot and I’m very intrigued! I hope you really enjoy it. 😀

    Krystianna @ Downright Dystopian

  17. Hey girl hey! My Thanksgiving was quite good too, but I also feel like I seriously squandered a prime chance to catch up on my book challenge! I’ve just barely not lost ground, which will so not keep me from failing. Sigh.

Anyway, I am mad jealous of The Program! Want! As for the others, I will be curious as always to hear your thoughts, since most of them are on my tentative TBR, and I thought The Spindlers was just okay. Lauren Oliver has done better. From having read The Luxe series, cracktastic is the perfect way to describe Godbersen’s books.

I also have an ARC of Between that I haven’t read. Fail!

  18. Glad you had a great Thanksgiving. Mine was pretty mellow and then I got sick but I think I’m finally on the mend. You received some awesome books! Falling for You is one I’m particularly excited for. Enjoy them all and have a good week!

  19. Awesome books! I’m interested to see how The Program is, and every time I go to the store, I’m REALLY tempted to buy Lovely, Dark, and Deep

    Hope you enjoy your books!

  20. Nice books! I need to check out the Linda Lael Miller one because i love her Christmas stories

  21. Lovely, Dark and Deep is a beautiful book. I read it right after it came out and loved it so hard. I want more people to read it and love it too. It’s WAY TOO under the radar. So gorgeous.

Also, I freaking love Clare Vanderpool and Moon Over Manifest. I read that book in print in one sitting last year. Top-notch MG that is well-deserving of its award-winning status. This makes me happy that you got the audio as I also got the audio this week for re-read based on Heidi’s tweets and review. Great minds.

  22. No way! You got The Program already? I want to read that so bad! Can’t wait for it to get released.

Your haul looks awesome! So many great books. Happy reading!

Janus @ The Blair Book Project

  23. I’m so intrigued by Lovely Dark and Deep. If the book is half as good as that cover it must be amazing. Enjoy all your new reads!

  24. Oh dude, how much do I know that wasted days off thing! I’m on the last evening of a four day weekend and I’ve read ONE BOOK. And I was already halfway through it before the weekend started! Every single time….

I need to start the Anna Godbersen series too – everyone loves it and my copy is still unread!

    Great books, enjoy 😀

  25. I really hope you have more success with Between than I did. I really really tried but about 50 pages in, I had to give it up.

Lovely, Dark, and Deep has been on my list though — love that cover! It’s so perfect for this cold weather we are having… brrrr.

  26. I’ve heard good things about The Program! I’m hoping to get a chance to read it soon 🙂

    My IMM

  27. Awesome IMM this week.

I completely understand your comment about wasting time. I had this big ole to do list for my blog I had planned on working on and all these books I planned on reading this past week and NONE of it got done. Despite the fact I know have a lot I need to catch up on blog wise, it was so nice to just enjoy the time off from blogging and spend it doing stuff w/ my kids and doing whatever. I hope you had great holiday!

  28. I sort of have a really bad love/hate (but mostly love) relationship with your IMM/Stacking The Shelves posts! There is always at least one book I am trying to convince myself that I do not need to buy!

Also, in response to your opening paragraph, YES! I do that all of the time! I rarely get days off but when I do I have these big hopes and dreams about getting caught up and then next thing you know, I’ve watched just about every cheesy movie that the Hallmark channel has to offer. Oh well, sometimes we just need a break 😉

  29. Falling For You!! ARGH. It sounds amazing! I’ve yet to read anything by the author before but..yes, I need this book in my life. The Program – sqeee! Love the cover and the premise definitely lures me in. Lovely, Dark And Deep sounds great. I haven’t really seen it around that much but I’m definitely intrigued.

    Enjoy your books, April!
