In My Mailbox (90) / Stacking The Shelves (11)

It’s been a decent two weeks, my friends (that’s how long it’s been since my last book haul post). I’ve had to do presentations, voted, finished teaching a class, and went to a wedding. Not to mention, going to an awesome signing/book launch and a giant warehouse sale. My life truly has been filled to the brim with books lately and I cannot complain.

In My Mailbox 90

Purchased:

Touching The Surface by Kimberly Sabatini (2 copies, both signed) – I went to Kim Sabatini’s launch party with Allison on November 4th. I’m really excited to read this book, especially after hearing Kim talk about her inspirations for it.

The Piper’s Son by Melina Marchetta – I saw this for under $10 and so because it’s by the wonderful and AMAZING Melina Marchetta, I bought it, no questions asked.

Everybody Sees The Ants by AS King – After reading Ask The Passengers, I was 100% sure I need to read the rest of AS King’s books.

Please Ignore Vera Dietz by AS King – YAY ANOTHER AS KING BOOK TO LIVE ON MY SHELVES!

Funerals For Horses by Catherine Ryan Hyde (Kindle) – This was free and I liked Jumpstart The World, so I snatched it up.

Good Girls Don’t by Victoria Dahl (Kindle) – At the time of purchase, this contemporary adult romance was $1.99 and I’d been curious about it. It seems kind of cute. It’s still cheap though, at 4.99 now.

Marian’s Christmas Wish by Carla Kelly (Kindle) – I’m sort of on a Christmas kick and Allison at The Allure Of Books pointed this out, so I immediately bought it.

Call Me Mrs. Miracle by Debbie Macomber (Kindle) – This was $1.24 when I bought it and you guys I read it last weekend and OMG LOVED IT, it was perfectly cheesy and wonderful and just what I was looking for.

Fatal Affair by Marie Force (Kindle) – I do not even know what this is about except that it is a romance and it was free when I got it. OH and it looks like it is still free today. AND it is published by Carina Press, so you know there will be sexy times.

Fatal Destiny by Marie Force (Kindle) – Another free book, this one is a novella.

The Six Crowns: Trundle’s Quest by Allan Jones (Kindle) – Pam (@bookaliciouspam) was talking about this book on Twitter and I was curious. Then I saw it was pubbed by Greenwillow and only $3.79 for Kindle, so I impulse purchased it.

For Review:

The 39 Deaths Of Adam Strand by Gregory Galloway (Unsolicited) – So, this book is about a guy who commits suicide 39 times, but he doesn’t stay dead. The concept is incredibly intriguing to me and I can’t wait to dive into this one.

Diverse Energies edited by Tobias S. Buckell and Joe Monti (Unsolicited) – I love short stories and this book contains short stories by some great writers — Paolo Bacigalupi and Ursula K. Le Guin among others and I’m pretty sure the stories focus on diverse characters as well. So YAY! cannot wait to dive into this.

Out Of The Easy by Ruta Sepetys (Unsolicited) – My jaw pretty much dropped over this package, especially because I loved Between Shades Of Gray soooo much and am super excited to read her sophomore novel.

Just One Day by Gayle Forman (Unsolicited) – So, apparently I guess I did not need that JUST ONE DAY prize I got at Oblong Books, because this magically showed up on my doorstop on Friday. Guess that means while my sister and blogger friends are borrowing one copy, this one can go up in a contest. Would you guys enter to win JUST ONE DAY? (and I’ll throw in WHERE SHE WENT)

River Road by Suzanne Johnson (Unsolicited) – I went to check the mailbox today on a whim and this was sitting there waiting for me, so yay mail on Sunday! Also, I have the first book, unread. Looks like I’ll need to get to it soon.

Orleans by Sherri L. Smith (Unsolicited) -Tribes based on blood type? Diseases? UM HELLO YES I WILL READ THIS.

The Art Of Wishing by Lindsay Ribar (Unsolicited) – DUDE there is a Tamora Pierce blurb on the back cover and FYI her blurbs are legit, like I have never ever been steered wrong by one of her blurbs.

OCD, The Dude, and Me by Lauren Roedy Vaughn (Unsolicited) – Oh goodness, a reference to the Big Lebowski? Contemporary? Journal bits? My heart just exploded from excitement!

The 13th Sign by Kristin O’Donnell Tubb (Requested Review Copy) – Ugh that cover, hello gorgeous. The concept of this is that there’s a 13th zodiac sign and it changes EVERYTHING. AWW YEAH.

Ghost Planet by Sharon Lynn Fisher (Unsolciited) – I have no idea what this is about, apparently it is the book’s first time in print. OH and the main character has been reincarnated as a ghost and there’s an Irish love interest? Ok book, I will take a gamble on you.

Kissing Under The Mistletoe by Marina Adair (Vine) – I picked this book out because I am on SUCH a Christmas kick and I can’t resist a contemporary romance about Christmas.

Flowers In The Sky by Lynn Joseph (Unsolicited) – I am very, very excited about this book because it’s about a girl who moves from the Dominican Republic to NYC for a better life. I love contemporary books and this one features a main character who is of color, so YAY! YAY DIVERSITY!

Requiem by Lauren Oliver (Unsolicited) – The OMG heard ’round the world, y’all.

Spellcaster by Claudia Gray (Unsolicited) – I kind of like the cover and I liked Fateful, and yo, witches.

Mila 2.0 by Debra Driza (Unsolicited) – A thriller about an android girl? HELLO SIGN ME UP.

Pretty Girl-13 by Liz Coley (Unsolicited) -Okay, this is about a girl who was kidnapped as a young teen, so it sounds fantastic in that it will heart my heart. I cannot wait to read this.

Imposter by Jill Hathaway (Unsolicited) – Apparently this is the sequel to Slide which I have not read, so we shall see when I get to Imposter.

Period 8 by Chris Crutcher (Unsolicited) – Yes, I am pumped up about this because it’s got a psychopath, thus you know it’s going to be THRILLING.

Wasteland by Susan Kim and Laurence Klavan (Unsolicited) – A trilogy where kids die at 19? Hmmm sounds intriguing.

Hysteria by Megan Miranda (Netgalley) – The premise is a girl who stabs her boyfriend and can’t remember why. SOUNDS INSANE. LOVE IT.

Also Known As by Robin Benway (Netgalley) – Yo, it’s Robin Benway, of course I had to request it.

Poison by Bridget Zinn (Netgalley) – I requested this expecting to get rejected and then when it was approved, I kind of WHOOPED really loud. SORRY COWOKERS!

How To Lead A Life Of Crime by Kirsten Miller (Netgalley) – Yo, crime is in the title, so of course I requested it.

White Lines by Jennifer Banash (Netgalley) – This book is set in the 1980s in NYC, but there’s drugs. Sounds heavy, but I’m looking forward to it when I need a heavy read.

The Different Girl by Gordon Dahlquist (Netgalley) – A dystopia set on an island? Sounds legit.

Paper Valentine by Brenna Yovanoff (Netgalley) – AHH! I love Brenna Yovanoff’s work and I am sure this one is no exception.

The Cadet Of Tildor by Alex Liddell (Netgalley) – Tamora Pierce meets George RR Martin meets my excited face. AHHH!

  1. BAHA all the books. ALL THE BOOKS. I love reading your little descriptions of each one, by the way. And those Harper books! I freaking loved Slide – it’s about a girl who like accidentally dozes off and slides into other people’s minds and she sees a murder. It was awesome. ANDD Spellcaster. WITCHES, YO. I started Ask the Passengers but I can’t find my copy after I came back from Charleston. ANYWAY. Fab haul, as usual <3

  2. Diverse Energies looks great… and then I think about the six million unread SFF anthologies already on my shelves and I feel guilty. But it still sounds good!

  3. Out of The Easy was really good. I’m hoping to read more by that author soon! I hope you enjoy everything you got this week!

  4. YO!! Requiem AND Just One Day?!?! STOP IT. I’m dying over here. The 13th Sign sounds bananas as well. Also, I too totally impulse-purchased that book Pam was talking about on Twitter. Bloggers selling books, y’all!

  5. I’m trying not to request so many NG books anymore, but I have to admit it was hard not to with Cadet of Tildor and Hysteria. I was actually pretty disappointed in Miranda’s debut, Fractured, so I’m interested to hear feedback on Hysteria. Also, The Art of Wishing blurbed by Tamora Pierce? Yes, please. I wasn’t going to put that one on my TBR, but her blurb’ll do it.

YES I would enter to win Just One Day. I want to read that and Out of the Easy like crazy, and of course their Penguin titles–the publisher that likes to passive aggressively ignore my requests for months and then say ‘oh sorry, we already gave out all of our ‘free’ copies’. (Yeah, I’m getting bitter. I don’t mind that they say no, I mind that they just ignore my requests all together and then act like I asked too late.)

I’ve heard good things about Ghost Planet–not amazing things, but decent 3-star range things. Cheers and enjoy, April!

  6. Yes, yes, yes, I’d sell my kidney for an ARC of Just One Day! I just LOVE Gayle Forman! Amazing haul this week, April! The Piper’s Son for under $10? Another A.S. King novel? MILA 2.0 and more ARCs? AAHH! Totally. Amazing. Happy reading, dear! 🙂

  7. Oh my! Where do I even start with all of these goodies. You’re stocked for 2013! Happy reading and happy thanksgiving!

Check out my IMM & SP.

  9. You piqued my interest with Good Girls Don’t, and just purchased it for my Kindle. I have no idea when I will get around to it, but it looked cute. I’ve never read anything by Victoria Dahl.

I hope I get approved for Paper Valentine. It looks awesome!

Happy reading, and thanks for the recommendation of Good Girls Don’t.

  14. OMG. I thought my haul was big this week. I see that you make my pile look small. I see some really good books in your pile April.

    Grace

  15. What a lucky duck! Again, epic book haul lady! White Lines, The Art Of Wishing (sqee!) and Just One Day all look amazing and are books I am super looking forward to releasing. I really want to read something by A.S. King as I’ve yet to yet and since I don’t think I’ll have time this year, will be making it a bookish 2013 goal. The Piper’s Son is great (especially if you’ve read Saving Francesca! If you haven’t, READ it. Please.), I mean, it’s Melina Marchetta. With her, you can never go wrong. Touching the Surface looks amazing and TWO copies? So much puuurty.

    Happy reading!

  16. REQUIEM!!! AHHHHH!! I need that book in my life asap.

  17. I love all this book awesomeness!!! Enjoy your goodies!

  18. Yay for Requiem! So excited to read that one. I also purchased Touching the Surface. Glad you made it to the author’s book event and got a signed copy. Mila 2.0 also sounds intriguing, and I hear it’s going to be a tv series. Your whole mailbox is made of win and I hope you enjoy all your new titles, April!

  19. So many beautiful covers! I love it. :] Can’t wait for your reviews! Seriously, I love your reviews.

  20. Looking at your giant pile of books both excites me and scares me at the same time! Congrats on an awesome haul. It looks like you’re going to have plenty of reading to keep you busy over the break!

  21. Holy shiz, dude. It’s no wonder that review copy fail happens all the time. Look at them all!

I spy so many things I want to read (Mila 2.0, Orleans, OCD, the Dude and Me), as well as some I have on my tbr pile (One Day, Out of the Easy) and some I cannot wait for you to read bc they are SO FREAKING GOOD and I want you to love them (Everybody Sees the Ants, Touching the Surface).

May all the books be awesome and not disappointing!

  22. Holy shizz April! You got a crap-ton of awesome books the past couple of weeks!!! I’m adding, oh about all of them to my TBR pile right now 🙂

  23. I need to get that edition of The Piper’s Son! I already have two copies of it (the Aussie edition and the US hardcover) but that cover design looks amazing so I would love to have it as well.

Ooooh Just One Day! I would definitely enter your giveaway if you ever decide to pass along your extra copy. Your review really made me want to read it as soon as I can.

  24. Wow. This is pretty fantastic for a two week haul. I don’t know how you read them all. Books I want? Out of the Easy, Orleans, Paper Valentine, Mila 2.0, and a few more. I’m having serious ARC envy with this post! Enjoy them, April!
